Okay so I've established myself as an Engage lover in the past, I adore the game, the gameplay, the music, etc. I do have one hangup about it though, and I want to see what other Engage enjoyers(ranging from just liking it to absolutely loving it) think about this thing.
How we feeling about the DLC Emblem maps on replay? I've come to consider them a massive hurdle to starting another save, I don't know why but they seem a bit overtuned in terms of challenge and *definitely* length. I say this as someone who has beaten the game on Maddening btw, I'm not complaining that the maps are difficult in general more so that they're overly difficult for the time at which you unlock them.

If there is one thing I will say I kind of dislike about Engage's gameplay, the emblems do feel a bit over centralizing at times. They felt like they were more important to a unit than the unit's innate traits themselves, which feels jarring compared to all the other fe games

#reblog#as much as I love engage#it really struggles with unit identity#since you can get into every class w/o restriction#and use every ring w/o restriction#it leads to the units themselves no mattering much#Early game units stand out more I think but the further into the game you get#the less unique units feel#since you’ll have access to shiny new emblems and classes and inherited skills#And the personal skills are just pathetic#Most of them barely matter#Like I don’t think Bunet’s personal is going to make him stand out#wow! a luck % chance for another favorite food! amazing! /s#some do have good bonuses yeah but w/ emblem it feels small#10% crit bonus is cool and all but engravings + wrath +plehthera of skill boosting means it’s not going to make or break crit builds#If you love the build aspects of FE then engage is perfect for that#Thinking of build possibilities is fun! but often it’s completely detached from the units themselves#like martial master w/ speed taker and Eirika is a great build! But that isn’t exclusive to anyone#The way you engage with the game (hehe) is seperate from the units themselves#The one thing that substantially differentiate units apart is their base stats#because why bother using Lapis if there’s nothing unique to her? Kagetsu is just better#(yeah you can use whoever you want but it’s still boring)#(that what sets them apart is just a stat check)#Fates’ class system is good in unit identity while still giving a ton of freedom#so units feel unique based on the classes they have access to!#since they’re limited to their base class sets and whoever they can S and A support#mozu stands out bc of her exclusive access to archer in CQ#But if everyone was able to class into archer? she’d just be a unit with poor base stats#sorry engage ily engage but my love means seeing your flaws#fire emblem engage

The main reason i prefer rev and birth over conquest is because i find them more fun to replay since they are basically sandboxes to experiment with different build in

#as much as I love CQ#the beauty of rev is the endless possibilities for builds#w/ access to (almost) every unit#pairings between the CQ & BR units is so fun to do#you can do crazy combos you wouldn’t be able to get otherwise#I.E Orochi Ophelia!#Bc of Orochi’s access to Oni Chieftan through Rinkah#she can pass down death blow to ophie#w/ bibliophile and death blow she can get +30 crit#give her a forged Mjölnir and watch her go#not to mention access to the diviner line!#mag+2 and Tomefaire for consistent dmg increase#Mag+2 and Tomefaire are rlly good (consistent dmg!)#however#rend heaven is rlly funny for absurd overkill dmg w/proc+crit#thats not even getting into what it means for Corrin#They get access to every class* through friendship! There’s endless skill combo possibilities#*Male Corrin won’t ever have access to Oni Chieftan or Merchant line barring marriage#anyway in conclusion Rev is fun go play it#reblog#fe fates#rambles in tags
