I've been listening to the #takemebacktoeden album loads lately and the band has such a unique visual style I just had to make a Vessel Sleep Token oil painting.

The Four - Oil on Canvas 20 x 36"

This was a bit of a spontaneous painting, I didn't really have a plan when I started. I threw a layer of raw umber on the canvas then using a rag and some mineral spirits tried to pick out some shapes/faces.

The 'pick out' technique can give some really dramatic contrast and is super forgiving if you need to make corrections during the first layer.

it's kinda giving me 4 horsemen/apocalyptic vibes. Maybe 4 Papas of the Apocalypse?? 👻

Someone in the studio said they were seeing angels in abstract patterns around their faces.

Ever since Papa IV came out wearing the golden epaulettes I had this idea of a revolutionary Papa scene. I tried to amalgamate the #Ghostband logo into the flag and hint at the band's Swedish origins.

This painting wasn't originally going to be a #lordoftherings piece but halfway into it I kept looking at the bridge over the waterfall and thought " 🧐 this looks a lot like it could be #rivendell" !

So add the fellowship and there we have it, some #lordoftheringsart 😁
