High Iron Bean Soup for all my fellow anemics
16-20 oz dried beans (I used a mix) soaked overnight and rinsed
1 large onion chopped
1 bunch of kale roughly chopped
1 ham steak chopped (about 1 cup)
Seasonings to taste. I used black salt, garlic powder, five spice, and white pepper.
Add the rinsed beans, onion, and ham to a pot with about 8 cups of water. Bring to a boil and then reduce to a simmer. Cover and simmer for about 1 1/2 hours. Add more water as needed.
When timer is up add kale and spices to taste. Cover again and simmer for another 1/2 hour.
Cool down and freeze so you can eat as needed!

Hearty Pork Stew!
1 1/2 lb pork loin, cut into 1″ pieces
3 Medium carrots, cut into slices
1 Medium onion, chopped
1 1/2 C 1-inch cubes of peeled butternut squash
4 C chicken broth
1 tsp dried sage leaves
3/4 tsp dried thyme
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
3 Tbsp flour
3 Tbsp butter, softened
Steps:
Mix all ingredients except butter and flour together in a five quart slow cooker (or a big ass stock pot like I did.) Cover and cook on low heat for 6-7 hours or until pork is no longer pink and vegetables are tender.
Mix the flour and butter and gradually add to the stew until blended. cover and cook on high heat for another 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
I found the cookbook this is from in a used book store. If interested in getting yourself a copy you could try to get in touch with the people who put it together, The Spiral Grove. The book itself (Wisdom from the Kitchen) is very interesting and full of kitchen witchery!

Honey-cream cheese icing
@randomthings144 ask and ye shall receive! I used the recipe from this site (and made the cupcakes from there, too.)
For those who are on mobile or otherwise unable to open the link:
Needed:
5 oz cream cheese (or mascarpone)
3 Tbl butter
1/4 C honey
1/2 tsp vanilla
3 C powdered sugar
Steps:
Let cheese and butter come to room temperature. Add honey and vanilla and beat together until light and fluffy.
Slowly add powdered sugar until desired consistency. If your bowl is microwave safe then microwave it for 20-30 seconds to soften it. If not then do what I do and (carefully!!!) place your bowl over a pot of boiling water to warm it up and soften it.
That’s it! I originally made it for the lavender cupcakes that I made on my birthday but it tasted wonderful on the strawberry cake~

Irish Apple Teabread
Apples have always been important in Ireland and not only for eating. They were considered a magical fruit and so were always served, in various forms, at Hallowe’en.
Ingredients:
4 cooking apples (peeled, cored, and grated)
½ tsp finely grated lemon rind
8 oz (1 cup) flour
6 oz (¾ cup) sugar
4 oz (½ cup) butter
1 egg, beaten
Milk to mix
Set oven to 350 F. Mix together the grated apple and lemon rind. Sift the flour into the sugar in a bowl, then rub in the butter until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in the grated apple and beaten egg and mix will, adding sufficient milk to make a smooth dough.
Turn into a shallow, buttered 7 to 8 inch tin and smooth over the top. Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden brown. Test that it is fully cooked through by inserting a warm skewer; when this comes out clean, the teabread is cooked.
Serve warm, spread with butter.
Apple Teabread is somewhat similar to Apple Brack, except that [the latter] recipe contains raisins and the apples are cooked before being added to the mixture.

Witches’ Easy Herbal Shortbread Cookies
🌱1/3 Cup of Sugar 🌱1 Cup of All-purpose flour 🌱2 teaspoons of fresh herb of choice- can also substitute with dried herbs just do 1 teaspoon or to taste (pictured here is rosemary) 🌱1 stick of salted butter (cold and cut into little chunks)
Briefly pulse everything in a food processor until combined but still crumbly. Butter can still be a bit chunky. If you don’t have a food processor you can use forks or other utensils. Avoid using your hands because you don’t want to melt the butter.
Press crumbly mixture in a 9-inch round pie or cake pan. It will appear thin but it’ll rise. If you want it thicker, use an 8inch pan or only cover ¾ of the pan.
Bake at *325 F for 30 minutes or until a tiny bit golden on the eyes. Cool a few minutes before cutting.
I use this recipe when I want to add a little herbal magic to my life. Very simple and very tasty. Try adding lemon zest, rose, lavender, sage, cinnamon, or whatever herbs your find tasty. Can also be made as an herb free treat.
