what do you do when you can't contribute to the fandom with fic and art? you resort to fun and silly crafts, that's what.
three guesses what's been eating my brain for the last few months.

a free journaling idea: indulge your inner teenage girl by making collages of your blorbos and hyperfixations at least once.

My latest finished journal was pretty short for a change, around 60 pages. Only took about a couple of months to fill.

Letting Vash and Wolfwood hang out at my desk while I work. They are currently facing their greatest foe yet: an HP printer.

Vash is trying to communicate using his plant telepathy. Wolfwood can't decide between strafing it with bullets or exorcising it.
Alas, the printer has defeated them.

"Jeez, this is a piece of crap"
#i just remembered vash doesn't have his earring yet#unfortunately i don't have any gold jump rings#though weirdly i have a ton of silver and brass ones.... will those work?#dolls#crochet#amigurumi#trigun#trigun stampede#vash the stampede#nicholas d. wolfwood

Been going through my craft supplies and figured I'd try using my surplus of ribbon and buttons (seriously, why are there so many) to make some simple friendship bracelets.

.... though I don't really have any idea what to do with them after, haha

Okay, now I can call this project 100% done. Behold... the Punisher!

I modified an amigurumi cross pattern I found on Ravelry, so I'm sure some unsuspecting Christian crafter is wondering why their pattern was used for a semi-violent anime 😂

While i had to buy this thread color specifically for this project, a lot of this was mostly random scrap materials in my crafting stash: some foam board here, some brown ribbon there, a mystery strip of wood to reinforce the core. Mostly just glued the ribbon on since I only had small amounts of it... ignore the janky bits where the ends are.

(Since I ran out of brown ribbon, I used a black one as a makeshift shoulder strap for posing.)
After weeks of on-and-off progress, I finally finished my tristamp boys!

Spent my morning putting the finishing touches on Vash's coat (including the patches and the weird pauldron thing on the prosthetic) and making their teeny weeny sunglasses while finishing up a four-hour video essay on Andor lol.

Of course I still need to do Wolfwood's Punisher next, but it's a relief to be about 75% done with this project. The best part (that is, the stupidest) is that since they're roughly ob11-sized I can do stuff like this:

"That's the last time I let you pick the distraction, Spikey."

I've never seen trailer park boys so I got a good giggle out of this 🤣 Thank you for the kind comment!

progress update on my tristamp amigurumi project
me: I'm a decent crocheter, I've been doing it for years! How hard could it be?
also me: how does hair work? how does shirt construction work? how do lapels work? HOW THE FUCK DOES VASH'S LEFT ARM WORK

No, I didn't get Vash's coat color wrong; the idea was to do the lining first as a base to do the red outer shell from. I would've liked to add a full hood, but it'd add too much bulk at this smaller size.
The bulk issue also came up when I did Wolfwood's shirt and jacket. I had to cheat in the funniest way possible:

where are your sleeves bro
#i have no idea if me documenting this process will be of good to anybody#one day I'll look back on this and laugh at myself#i didn't think it was possible to invent an even sluttier version of ww but welp#crafts#crochet#dolls#amigurumi#trigun#trigun stampede

I'd been procrastinating on working on Vash for the past week. Part of it was the difficulty of nailing down his hair in crochet form. Between the undercut and the messy swoopy... thing with his bangs, it's a lot of separate parts to try and put together.

The much bigger reason for the delay was I spent the past week starting on Wolfwood. Unfortunately I had the brilliant idea to make his shirt/blazer removable, which meant he spent the last few days topless while I tried to figure out the clothes. For now he's temporarily borrowing a jacket from one of my blind box bjds.

At this rate I'll probably be saving Vash's coat and the Punisher for last until I finish their bodies. I so cannot wait for this project to be done.
#i just know the hair is gonna suck but I'll live with it#the fun thing about this scale is i can make them wear all kinds of silly miniature dresses for the yuks 🤣#(i probably should've made the necks longer but that's a whole other technical issue)#(the joys of bullshitting your way through amigurumi without a pattern)#crafts#crochet#dolls#amigurumi#trigun#trigun stampede#you can tell this is tristamp wolfwood by the shitty little shoes and exposed ankles lol

I don't know who here still remembers my little adventure with the King's Avatar BJDs, but I finally scrounged up some appropriate outfits for my original intended purpose (mini doll versions of Matt and Dom):

I lucked out on an ob11-scale red tracksuit on Shopee, though it isn't an exact match for Matt's. What I discovered is how unpredictable doll clothes sizing can be, because the tracksuit was very nearly too small.

Dom's outfit wasn't based on anything in particular, aside from maybe the leather jacket + sleeveless shirt + black skinnies ensemble he wore a lot in the early to mid-2010s.

By sheer luck I already had a doll-sized sleeveless tee (borrowed from one of my OOTD of Cai MJDs), though it wasn't intended to be a belly shirt lmao

Alas I've been too swamped with work to do much fun doll stuff, aside from maybe posing them with a metric ton of other doll babes haha

I am currently knee-deep in my Trigun Stampede hyperfixation, which means I have now reached the "make crafts of the blorbo" stage of fandom.
Three guesses who I'm working on right now.

Even with what reference images I could find of Tristamp Vash, some creative liberties were inevitable. The belt isn't really visible in the anime, but I did find evidence of it in both the concept art and the official Kotobukiya figure, so whatever.
Next on my list are the head, the red coat and the glasses, which are all scary to do at this miniaturized scale. Doesn't help that rendering human hair in general is one of my least favorite things to do in amigurumi.
#am still debating whether to stitch detail on the prosthetic#vash's arm is roughly the size of my pinky finger so it's gonna be a pain in the ass to embroider#(to the surprise of nobody I'm also planning a matching wolfwood after this)#crafts#crochet#dolls#amigurumi#trigun#trigun stampede#vash the stampede

Just a silly question, but has anyone else made amigurumi of a niche character you couldn't find/afford good merch for? Sometimes this feels like 85% of the motivation behind why I crochet lol
#crochet#amigurumi#half the time it's either because toy merch flat out doesn't exist (see: my semi ambitious muse project from a while back)#or it's a medium/style I'm not the biggest fan of (i wanted a demon finn balor but don't collect wwe action figures or funko pops)#am seriously contemplating taking a crack at the trigun stampede versions of vash and wolfwood#and while I'm pretty sure official tristamp merch does exist... *flails at import costs to my country*

I'm still working through my seemingly bottomless collection of blank notebooks. I've had this Captain America notebook from Miniso for a few years now, and I wanted to switch back to a slightly smaller notebook size.

One of these days, I'd like to go into detail about my junk journaling "philosophy" of sorts. I tend to layout my pages in a very plain grid-like way, mostly because I want to display the things I glue in as fully as possible. I've always found the current trend of aesthetic™️ journaling a bit wasteful in how they use their decorations, which devalues the art and detail that goes into them.

At some point, I realized I was a whole-ass adult who could make adult investments in my hobbies, so I've been contemplating getting some kind of display cabinet for my mini Lalaloopsy collection. Though I couldn't do that without doing a full inventory first.

Not the greatest photo, but at least it gave me a rough reference to work from. It's a scarier number than I realized.

One of my favorite features of Lalaloopsys is the creative outlandishness of their pets. You get everything from an ice cream kitty to a gelatin turtle to a hotdog on wheels to an invisible dog's leash (for the mime character, obviously).
What's cool about the mini Lalaloopsy pets is they're tiny enough to be toys for other dolls. They might be a bit too small for 1/6 scale dolls (Barbie, Monster High, etc.), but they're near-perfect for smaller dolls like blind box BJDs and Sylvanian Families.
