Have you ever thought about posting your Letterkenny fic to AO3? I think it would be great if you did! There are a couple other Autistic!Wayne stories on there.
I think I posted it on there...? I was a monster and never actually wrote another part of it... I might yet if there’s enough demand for it. I’d probably rewatch the show to get a feel for the characters again. I’ll provide a link to my AO3. I have a couple Autistic!Reid works on there from Criminal Minds if anyone is interested in that.

i didn't know other letterkenny fans noticed wayne's autistic traits :D! i also personally see daryl as autistic
I thought he was Autistic from episode one. He’s pretty much textbook, really. It’s actually a heavily debated topic. From my experience with the Letterkenny community, the people who say he’s not autistic are passionate about it, they almost come off as angry.

Abed Nadir- Community
“Abed from the show Community has autism.“ Was submitted by @potc4life. Which he very much is. This has been sitting in my asks for a few months because I had no clue who this was and I didn’t know it was Netflix. Abed is this little guy. This might get a part two as I watch more of the show with my sister.
I’m only on season two and Netflix has six seasons, so I don’t know if things with this character change drastically- though I expect not. So, into reasons why/how Abed has Autism.
Characters in the show (mainly Jeff) have hinted strongly at him having it. They’ve almost said a few times, but stop themselves every time.
He has a new show/movie fixation every episode.
MASH
The Breakfast Club
“I can’t remember the name of that girl from Breakfast Club. Mary. Margo. Molly Ringworm. Your broke me.”
“I was kinda raised by TV.”
“Movie reference.”
“It’s TV; it’s comfort.”
“I can only connect with people through...movies.”
Friends
“Wow. I didn’t realize we were really goods friends. I figured we were more like Chandler and Phoebe. They never really had stories together.”
“Which is why- and hear this on every level- you’re keeping us from being Friends.”
He stims a lot. It’s not always on camera and you have to look for it sometimes- he’s amazing at masking- but it’s there.
Doesn’t pick up on the awkwardness the rest of the group does.
Doesn’t understand tone and relies on other tells for emotions.
“Your mouth isn’t curves upwards. Did I misread something?”
Jeff: Is that really a sitcom staple? Abed: No, I have no idea what I’m talking about. I’m Abed; I never watch TV
He’s brutally honest all the time. Someone will ask the group something, everyone lies about it at the same time and Abed’s the one to tell the truth.
He’s not great with social interactions. The gif above is an example of this. The group was trying to set him up with a girl but they said he was weird so they needed to “change” himself so he was more “likable”. This was the other “version” of himself that he deemed a vampire.

Reid’s Autistic Traits
I was bored, so I decided to make a compilation of sorts on my favorite autistic character, Dr. Spencer Reid. These have been piling up in my files, so prepare for a gif-style infodump.
Stimming
Self-stimulatory behavior often consists of repetitive movements. Reid is frequently seen fidgeting with his hands and other objects. He almost always talks with prominent hand movements. He also frequently touches his face. Reid occasionally spins in chairs, rocks back and forth, etc.
Missing Social Cues/Confusion in Social Situations
Despite his excellent profiling skills, his interactions with strangers and friends often leave Reid confused and causes him issues when trying to connect with people. He will miss jokes and sarcasm, take things literally, and occasionally gets uncomfortable when speaking publicly.
Infodumping, Hyperfocus, Special Interests
Reid’s special interests, as I have observed them, involve general knowledge seeking, criminology, Halloween, old foreign films, and sci-fi. Reid has a more rare trait of autistic people; savantism. If you believe in quantifying intelligence, Reid has an extremely high IQ (187), He also has an eidetic memory and can read 20,000 words per minute. When Reid is working a case, he frequently enters hyperfocus, ignoring everything else around him. Reid often goes into long-winded explanations of things and is oblivious to others’ frustration with his infodumping.
Sensory Issues
Reid doesn’t have as many obvious sensory seeking/avoidant behaviors as many other autistics, but it does manifest every once in a while. Reid is often uncomfortable with touching strangers, especially shaking hands. He has shown sensitivity to bright lights and loud sudden noises. Reid’s clothing choices also reflect his preference to be comfortable.
Coordination/Spatial Issues
Reid tends to display spatial awareness, coordination, and dexterity issues. He prefers academic pursuits, and ridicule in childhood further led to his aversion to physical activity/sports. He has also only very rarely been shown to drive a car, and takes the train to work. This may be due to difficulties with driving ability.
Appearance/Hygiene issues
Many autistic people struggle with basic hygiene and appearance upkeep. Reid’s hair, whether short or long, is almost always messy and unkempt. Reid’s clothes are often disheveled as well.
Trouble Regulating/Expressing Emotions
Reid tends to suppress his emotions much of the time, but when he experiences strong emotions they tend to pour out and seriously effect him in ways that don’t effect the rest of the team. Reid also tends to have odd/exaggerated facial expressions which may be a way of overcompensating for his struggles of expressing himself acceptably.
Additional stuff:
Avoiding Eye Contact
Going Non-Verbal (I’ve only ever seen this happen to Reid once)
Resistant to Change
Sitting Cross-legged (I’m not actually sure if this is an autistic trait but I always sit like this and so does Reid so I thought I’d include it)
So yeah, I hope that was informative. It was fun to make this post! Thanks for reading!

Reblogged from my other blog. -Ely
Frian. Brian taking autistic!Freddie on a date?
It took me a while to actually write this one but I’m pleased with what I’ve got written. I hope you enjoy it. I’m going to be reblogging it on my @autistic-characterhcs blog too. -Freddie
Freddie’s foot bounced a mile an hour while an unasked question danced around his head. Kash was sitting next to him, waiting for him to ask the question. She already knew what it was.
“Kash?”
“Yeah, Freddie?”
“I’ve known Brian for two and third years.”
“Yes you have.”
“So why am I freaking out?” Freddie’s foot started bouncing faster and his right hand started clenching and unclenching.
“Because there’s a little change involved now, right? If things go well- which I think they might- you might be boyfriends instead of best friends.” Kash held Freddie’s left hand to try and calm him down. “He’s still the same Brian, Fred. And you’re still the same Freddie.”
Freddie’s foot slowed down before stopping its bouncing completely. His hand stopped clenching.
“Am I…Am I going to need my ear plugs?”
“I don’t think so. It’s going to be quieter than the last concert.”
“Oh. Okay.” Freddie turned back toward the street but a small bug on the ground caught his attention so he contently watched it.“Kash, is it weird for someone with Autism to go out with someone who doesn’t?”
“Not even a little bit, Big Brother. There’s nothing weird about it at all. Besides, since when have you card about if something’s weird or not?”
“That’s fair.”
“Yep. So you have fun with Brian and don’t worry over what anyone else thinks. As long as you and Brian are happy, nothing else matters.”
*****
Freddie and Brian sat under a tree with a thin blanket under them. Brian had planned a picnic and a surprise that Freddie was still wondering about.
“I’m not telling what the surprise is so you can stop looking at me like that.” Brian didn’t try to stop the small giggle from escaping between his lips.
“Can I get a hint?” Freddie tried. He had a smile on his face and Brian was basking in it. So rarely did the front man give an open smile like this.
“It’s something that’s usually quite loud and bright but is going to be dimmed and quiet.” Brian’s smile widened as Freddie thought, rubbing the right side of his nose with his forefinger.
Brian wouldn’t take him to the cinema. It was too bright, too loud, and the size of the screen scared Freddie more than anything else. Kash tried taking him to see A New Hope and it was one of the worst sensory overloads he’d ever had. At least the cinema was kind enough to refund their tickets.
“We’re going after lunch?” Freddie checked.
“Yes. Right after we’re done eating.” Brian confirmed. He couldn’t wait to see the look on Freddie’s face.
*****
Freddie was confused as Brian drove his car to the parking lot of the carnival grounds. The carnival was set up like it was going to be all weekend but the surprise came from the difference there was. No loud music, no rearing monster trucks. The lights on the rides weren’t so bright they burned your retinas.
“How?” Was all Freddie asked.
He had always wanted to go to the carnival, but it had always been too much for him. He wanted to see horses and cows up close instead of just in passing when on a tour bus.
“The first day the carnival opens, they dim everything and quiet things down for neurodivergent people and little kids who can’t deal with the usual noise and lights. Roger heard about it from a friend of his who’s on the committee so he told me when I asked for date ideas.”
Freddie didn’t try to stop himself from flapping. He was too excited to care.
“Are we going in or just going to sit here staring at the Ferris Wheel?” Brian chuckled.
“Let’s go.” Freddie unbuckled his seat-belt, his hands shaking slightly from how excited he was.
“Do you want to go on any rides?” Brian asked.
“No. I don’t like heights,” Freddie reminded.
It was true. Whenever the band flew somewhere Freddie needed a Walkman playing piano music, a hand to hold, and Griffin at all times.
“There’s plenty of other things to do.” Brian nodded.
If he were to be honest, he didn’t like the rides either. He didn’t mind the Ferris Wheel, but most of the rides were too much for him and he wasn’t neurodivergent.
They were holding hands when they walked to the ticket booth. Brian released Freddie’s hand to pay for the tickets. The second Brian’s wallet was in his pocket, Freddie was latched on to his hand again.
Though they hadn’t been on any rides, per Freddie’s request, the two still had a good time. It wasn’t like any other date Brian had ever been on before and he loved that fact.
There was no awkward small talk, no talking about the weather or trying not to comment about what you wanted from the future. Freddie babbled sometimes but Brian never minded. He just loved watching the way Freddie’s deep brown eyes expressed all the thoughts and emotions his mouth couldn’t without singing.
*****
“Brian?”
“Freddie?”
“Horses!” And Brian laughed as Freddie tugged him in the direction of the large animal barn. Freddie was a little confused at first to see a few cows as well since the barn only had the image of a horse on the front. He was excited again in seconds nonetheless.
Brian was highly pleased when he dropped Freddie off because the older man was head shakes, flaps, and chirps all the way home.

Autistic!Wayne (P1)
I wrote this back at the start of summer and thought I should post it here. It’s the introduction for a fanfic I started and kind of dropped from a show called Letterkenny. I think the main character, Wayne, is Autistic. He has some symptoms that are all but text book.
Warnings: Stronger than usual swearing langue. If you watch Letterkenny, this oneshot is cleaner worded than any given episode.
Wayne had been diagnosed with Autism when he was eight or ten. His parents knew there was something a little “off” with him but it was Pa’s friend, Dan, who tied everything together. They were going hunting- Dan, Pa, Darry, and Wayne that is- until the trip got rained out. If it was just rain they would have gone but thunder and lightning put a pin in any notion of sitting in a metal framed deer blind.
Pa and Dan didn’t mind that much; they sat at the table chatting with Mumma over a couple of Gus’N’Bruno’s Puppers. Darry was watching cartoons in the living room with Wayne and Katy. Well, sort of. Wayne was mighty antsy and couldn’t sit still for long, so Darry was trying to calm him down. Wayne wasn’t upset the trip was cancelled, they could reschedule. He was irked the plans had changed within an hour’s notice.
“You know, Bens, I thinks Waynes got the Autisms.” Dan said.
The three of them could see Darry shuffling a deck of playing cards on the coffee table while Wayne watched, his foot bouncing a mile a minute and he kneaded the knees of his pants like he was trying to wring water out of them.
“What’s that now, Dan?” Mumma asked, getting a snack for the kids.
“Well, I was thinking an’ it fits. My cousin’s nephew’s son has it and Waynes acts sort of simulars to him. Theys both stoics, gots to has a water-tight routine. Theys both move their hands sorts of funnies.” Dan explained.
Mumma and Pa looked at each other. “What do you figure, honey” Pa asked. “Worth looking into?”
“If there’s something they can do to help him.”
Within three appointments Wayne was diagnosed with Autism. Same as always, gas travels fast in a small town so by the end of the week most of Letterkenny knew.
*****
As Wayne, Katy, and Darry got older, peers started bullying Wayne and Darry more. Come middle school, the three of them were pretty good at fighting. However, little gangs often sprouted. If someone picked on Wayne, Katy and/or Darry quickly taught them not to fuck with him. If someone went after Darry without reason or went too far with Katy, Wayne told ‘em where to go. By the time Wayne and Darry graduated high school, most of Letterkenny understood.
*****
When Wayne and Katy’s parents died, Wayne went nearly nonverbal for almost two weeks. He wasn’t one much for words in the first place, so the one and two word answers scared Katy. Wayne hadn’t cried after a week of Mumma and Papa’s death and Katy didn’t know if he was going to; she’d never seen him cry before.
Two weeks passed before he finally crumbled. He was making breakfast for himself, Katy, and Darry (with some extras for Dan). He’d forgotten to do the dishes the night before, so the spatula he needed wasn’t clean and it drove the final nail in.
He threw the spoon he had in his hand across the room and a deep growl rose from his throat, his hands tugging hard on his hair. Katy and Darry both jumped when Wayne threw the spoon. Daryl jumped up from his chair and stood behind Wayne, getting a tight grip on his wrists. Slowly, Wayne’s fingers released his hair and Darry steadily lowered Wayne’s hands to his waist.
“You’re okay, good buddy, you’re okay.” Darry whispered again and again. Once Wayne’s breathing was a little closer to normal, Darry let go of Wayne’s wrists and hugged him tightly.
With a body shuddering sob, Wayne’s knees gave out and Darry lowered them to the floor. He moved around Wayne so he could properly hold him as he sobbed. Katy quickly set to flipping pancakes on the stove so they wouldn’t burn.
Ten minutes later when Dan came in, Wayne was still sobbing into Darry’s shoulder where they sat on the floor. At the 15 minute mark, the heart wrenching sobs that made Katy tear up quieted down and he’d sobbed himself out after a total of 25 minutes. He let himself be held by Darry, being a limp weight.
Darry backed up slightly so he could see his best friend’s face. His eyes were red; his face red, blotchy, and tear streaked. “Okay, big shooter?” Wayne shakily nodded and Darry pulled him back into the hug. “Got a headache?” Darry guessed. Another nod. “Let’s get you in a chair an’ I’ll get you a tylenol, hm?” There was a pause but Wayne nodded all the same.
Darryl got Wayne on his feet again and he brought his hands to his head again but Darry caught them around the wrists. “Wayne, eye contact.” He prompted. “Wayne.” Hesitantly, Wayne brought his eyes to meet Darryl’s. “Ya gotta stop pullin’ your hair, buddy. It’s just gonna make your headache worse.” Darryl kept his firm grip on Wayne’s wrists until he got another nod of conformation. As promised, Darry helped Wayne to his usual chair.
No-one said anything about Wayne’s outburst and he took the two painkillers when Darryl put them in front of him with some water. No-one said anything when Wayne teared up throughout the day, either.
Dan stayed over more than usual knowing what Wayne and Katy were going through. Dan stayed closer to Wayne and Katy too so he could cheer up the grieving siblings.
*****
Two months passed before a lawyer came knocking and this fuckin’ idiot got Wayne fully verbal again.
“We think it would be best to move your sister into a group home,” the case worker said.
“Hard no.” Wayne didn’t pause, still moving the bales of straw onto the trailer. “This family’s been broke up enough. Katy isn’t going anywhere.”
“We’re just worried she won’t be provided for with your mental cond-”
“This doesn’t have anything to do with my Autism. If I was unfit to care for my sister, I’d be unfit to care for myself and someone at the hospital would have told me before I turned 18. We’re staying together.”
“Mr-”
“Look, I can take care of my sister just fine. ‘Sides, if it’s me yer worried about I’m never alone with her. Go ask Darryl, Squirrely Dan, and the McMurries what they think. Darry lives with us, he brings in some pay o’ his own and we have friends we can ask for help from if we ever needed it. Give me the papers and I’ll take custody over Katy. She ain’t living under someone else’s roof until she’s 18 or good’n’ready to be living somewhere else.”
“Are you sure? That’s a lot of stress and burden for someone your age. Especially with you still running the farm.”
Wayne stopped moving bales of hay and set his stern, squinted eyes on the pair of caseworkers, pointing stiffly at them. “You call my sister a stress and burden one more time an’ I’ll have to go over there and talk to ya.” He put his arm down. “Get me the adoption papers or get the fuck off my property.”
“We don’t have the papers right now. We didn’t think you were going to…”
“Then get off my property. Come back with the papers or don’t come back at all.”
*****
Wayne dated Angie for two years before he found out she cheated on him. He wasn’t a fan of being touched by anyone other than Darry or Katy. He’d been perfectly happy with their relationship. All the talking and occasional hand holding but nothing too out of his comfort zone. They’d kiss or make out sometimes but he always felt weird afterwards and he couldn’t pin it as a good thing or a bad thing.
He heard rumours around town of someone cheating on a “sped” but he ignored it. Despite Letterkenny being pretty small, he didn’t know everyone, so it must have been pert near impossible for it to be about him and his Angie, right? Hard no. Katy told him it was true. She hadn’t mentioned left a bright pink hand print on the cheek of the bastard Angie had cheated on Wayne with. She figured it wouldn’t help her brother’s broken heart.
It took a lot for Wayne to trust someone and Angie had somehow gotten herself into the farmer’s heart and then stomped it into the dirt when she got bored. Wayne didn’t cry but he didn’t turn down a hug from Katy either. Darry had been there for him too with a couple of Puppers and some stupid jokes he knew Wayne would understand and enjoy.
*****
A year passed before Wayne pieced things together for himself with a little help from Katy. He wasn’t one for talking about his feelings; it made him feel 10-ply. So when he went to Katy to ask questions about her love life, the young woman had some idea of what was going on.
“How’re ya now?” Wayne sat next to his sister on the couch.
“Good. ‘N you?” Katy put her phone down and gave Wayne her full attention so he’d know she was listening and wasn’t bored or wanted him to stop talking.
“Oh, not so bad.”
“What’s up, Big Brother?”
“Well, I have a question and don’t completely know how to ask it.” He started off slow. He was still thinking as he spoke but Katy knew how to talk to her brother so she knew it sometime took him a little while longer than most people to get the question just how he wanted it.
“We can figure out.” She adjusted how she was sitting.
“You know how you try to go after Bonnie McMurry?” Wayne tried.
“Bonnie McMurry,” Katy sighed dreamily. “What about her?”
“Well, before you liked her you were dating the hockey players.” Wayne’s head was racing with how to ask the next part. “How’d you know you liked Bonnie and not another man?”
Katy was a little taken aback. This was out of character for Wayne. Usually he wanted nothing =to do with Riley and Jonesy aside from tripping them with Darry when they dropped her off before they broke up. “Well, uh… just… I don’t know, Big Brother. There’s just something different, you know? Jonesy and Riley were good for in bed stuff but they didn’t have the brain space put together for a full conversation. With Bonnie, though, she’s smart and can laugh.”
Wayne thought for a second. This was backwards of what he was going through. All Angie seemed to have wanted was the “in bed stuff” without much of the talking and laughing. Darryl, on the other hand… Darryl made him smile that rare smile only he and Katy- not even Dan anymore- got to see. Angie left Wayne for the exact opposite reason Katy had left the hockeyplayers. He was a good listener but didn’t want anything to do with a bed if it wasn’t for sleeping or relaxing and he didn’t want anything to with touching if it wasn’t a handshake.
“What’s going on in your head, Wayne?” Katy asked fondly. She knew he was trying to figure something out.
Wayne’s throat made the little growl it always did when he was thinking too hard. “I don’t know.”
“Well, what are you trying to figure out?”
“I figured out why Angie cheated on me.” He said, folding his arms across his chest. “I did not want any of the bed stuff.”
“That’s alright; some people don’t.” Katy nodded. “Do you like someone else now?”
“I think so. I don’t know if it is okay.”
“Who do you like? I can probably tell if they’re into guys,” Katy offered. She knew not to push too far with the question. Wayne had come to her and he wasn’t likely to leave until they got it figured out. “It’s okay. I dated two guys at the same time where all three of us were in the relationship and now I’m chasing after a girl two years younger than me. I’m not in a position to judge anyone.”
“Except Gailer.”
“Except Gailer.” Katy could give him that one. “So who is the lucky person?”
“I think… I think it’s Dar.”
“Thats alright. You two would be cute.” Katy smiled. She happened to know that Darry felt the same way about her brother. The fond and sappy look he’d give Wayne when he was playing with one of the dogs or joking around with Katy. “You gonna get after him?”
“I do not know.”
“Why not? He wouldn’t judge you.” Katy prompted, tapping Wayne’s knee with her socked foot.
“Because if something were to go wrong then it’s 20 years down the drain.” Wayne tried to reason. “I can trust…”
“You can trust Daryl, Wayne. He’s one that won’t hurt you and you don’t even have to worry about it. Not even a little.” Katy comforted him. “You don’t have to tell him, but I think he’d want to know the truth, Big Brother.”
It took Wayne a couple days to say anything- he didn’t really. Just kissed him casually one morning- but he and Darry were dating by the end of the week.

Flash Autistic!Sherlock HC
-He has an old ratty beanie from his childhood stitched a beanbag into because he likes the weight on his head.
-Mycroft fondly called it a "dunce cap" and Sherlock constantly reminded him a beanie isn't a cap
*The "nicotine patch" Sherlock wears isn't really a nicotine patch. It's just a bandaid.
*He isn't hurt, he just likes to tap and rub the weird rubber, plastic stuff with the tips and pads of his fingers.

I bounce back and forth all the time.
something people don’t talk about enough: both extremes in autism
almost every autistic trait has something to do with extremes, and for most of them, autistic people can be on either end of the scale. sometimes this is for hyper/hypo sensitivity reasons, and sometimes it’s due to overcompensation.
examples of some typical autistic traits and their equally austistic counterparts:
no empathy? how about having such extreme empathy that you cry when your stuffed animals are ignored?
no/wrong facial expressions? how about exaggerated facial expressions because you learned early on you were doing it wrong?
nonverbal? how about being hyperverbal and not knowing when to stop talking?
highly advanced vocabulary? how about when you can’t remember common everyday words in conversation?
can’t tell when things are awkward? how about having such an sensitivity to awkwardness that you can barely stand being in the room when an awkward moment happens on tv?
has a meltdown over a small tag on their shirt? how about being so oblivious to physical sensations that you don’t know you broke a bone?
doesn’t follow social norms? how about a strict adherence to social norms, often accompanied by severe anxiety that you’re not doing it right?
can’t stand bright lights and loud noises? how about pressing lights so close to your eyes that you’re temporary blinded and constantly making noises when it gets too quiet?
no eye contact? how about intense, sustained eye contact that you don’t know when to break?
constantly rocking back and forth? how about being unable to walk without getting disoriented?
remember this when people say “you don’t seem autistic” - there is no quintessential autistic representation. this is what we mean when we say it’s a spectrum.

Habits of Mine
I have this thing where my nails have to be short. If I can feel my nails on the palm of the opposite hand, they are too long. Sometimes, it freaks out my sister how short they usually.
I can only clip them after a shower because otherwise they are too hard and it actually hurts a little. But I clipped them this morning and typing makes me happy because it so smooth again. Holding pencils is going to feel nice too.

if you say you support autistic people, you need to take a step back and critically think about things you call “annoying” and eye roll at people for, because quite frankly a lot of those things are symptoms of autism.
talking too fast, too slow, too loudly, or too quietly (we literally cannot control the speed of which we speak or volume of how we speak without an intense conscious effort, and when we are happy or excited we especially talk faster or louder)
infodumping when a certain subject comes up (we are invested in our interests and especially our special interests and are rarely given the opportunity to talk about it, so when we get it we jump on it)
talking about their personal experience / their own story when someone else is talking about theirs (it’s one of the ways we try to engage in discussion and empathize, it is not an act of being self-centered or only caring about ourselves)
not being able to stay still or look directly at you (we stim, we fidget, we struggle with eye contact, etc. and sometimes it can be PAINFUL to force ourselves to stop)
panicking, speaking abruptly in a distressed manner / loudly, having a meltdown (everyone feels distress and experiences it in their own way, and many of us experience that distress amplified)
I am so sick of people saying they are allies and that they wouldn’t pick on autistic people or find autistic people annoying, but then judging and picking on people for symptoms of autism. you are not an ally if you think it’s okay to pick on people for having autistic traits if they don’t directly say “the reason I am this way is because I have autism.”

Is it possible to over stim?
I don’t know. I’ve happy stimming (hands flaps and flutter fingers) for most of the evening. Someone commented on a story I’m posting on AO3 after it was up for just a couple hours and my beta reader is reading a future chapter. I’m very excited tonight. The ball of right foot is fuzzy and my heart feels funny so now I’m confused.
