Rubython is such a genuinely nasty and spiteful man for the absolute gall of victim-blaming Niki Lauda and other divers with his own made up stories, despite trying to sidle up to them, as well as horrifically sexist and incapable of talking about women like they're anything but sex toys that exist only to please his eyes.

He was the one who leaked the name of Horner's accuser despite her wishes because he has no sense of journalistic integrity at all and is a vile man.

I wish it could be popularised more that nothing should be trusted or taken in good faith if it's coming from that snake-of-a-man's mouth. The absolute flame he's taken to James' legacy by the way he talks about women in the man's biography, trying to insert his views to a man who is no longer alive to defend it, makes me sick to my stomach.

OH AND: HE RAN FOR UKIP, which is basically the Alt-Right British Mega Racist party that ended up so hateful it self-combusted to in-fighting.

So he's the whole terrible bingo card.

In the latest installment of Clary vs Tom Rubython's Non-Fiction oeuvre, I'm pissed off about two new things. (Yes, I should stop reading anything that man writes but I picked up a copy of Shunt before I knew he was terrible and sometimes I use it to fact check which is RIDICULOUS of me because he's so unreliable. ANYWAY here we are).

Writing about James Hunt not supporting his younger brother David financially to enter motor racing (contrasting with James mentoring younger drivers after he retired, Mika Hakkinen being the most prominent), Rubython says that James wanted to be the only Hunt in motorsport, but that he convinced his brother that his real reason for not supporting him was that James would feel responsible if David died racing.

So there's absolutely nothing to verify that James "wanted to be the only Hunt in motorsport." And of James's closest friends in racing, the two closest (Niki Lauda and Ronnie Peterson) had major accidents, with Niki surviving when he shouldn't have and Ronnie dying when he needn't have. It seems like a big leap to decide James's stated reason for not supporting David was untrue, especially when James was a pretty adoring older sibling.

The second thing that's pissing me off is his utter conviction that Jane Birbeck was the love of James's life "in spite of what was said later". Firstly, Jane Birbeck herself has never said anything like that or made any particular claim on his memory. Secondly, James was the one to end his relationship with Jane because he couldn't be faithful. But most importantly, James himself said that Helen Dyson was the love of his life and he would know, surely.
