do you have homework due tomorrow? do it
did you get any homework today? do it
did you get an assignment notification? break it into small chunks, schedule these chunks and make a start on it.
do you have an exam tomorrow? do some light revision. or if you’ve left it until the last, turn off your phone, put it in your desk drawer and revise until you’re done. make sure you get at least 4 hours of sleep if you’re cramming, 8 if you’re not.
do you have a quiz tomorrow? do some v light revision, and redo some homework problems or handouts on the topic.
how much tea/coffee/general caffeine have you had today? how much water have you had? switch your next coffee refill to water.
have you brushed your hair? tame that mane.
have you showered? have a warm shower right before you go to bed so you feel sleepy when you come out.
are your feet cold? put on socks.
are you working your hardest? push a little harder.
when was the last time you allocated relaxing time? pick a cutoff point for your work, whether it’s 9pm or 1am, and spend 15-30 minutes (depending on the time) to wind down by reading a book, talking to family or friends, taking a shower and generally doing whatever you want.

School tips 🍒
1. Do all assigned reading - This is beneficial for many reasons but basically, it’s because it gives you a basic knowledge of what’s discussed in lecture. However, although reading alone is very helpful, I suggest taking notes or using whatever other methods you can that aid you in your learning. For example; taking notes, writing in margins, reading farther into what you don’t understand from other sources, writing down questions you have, and once you’re done summarize everything you read in your own words.
2. Prioritizing assignments based on the long-term effect it will have on your grade. For example, if you are assigned two papers to write, with one being crucial to your overall grade in the class VS one that wouldn’t have much of an effect, you need to decide which one is more important. Obviously, the first one is the best choice. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t even bother to do the second one, all it means is that it won’t be your best work. When the next essay is assigned in that class, just promise to do better. Ask yourself; Which one would have a larger effect on my grade if I were to fail it? Whichever one that is, that’s the one you should give the majority of your attention.
3. Record the lecture on your phone. Check with your professor before you do this. If they don’t want you to record, then just don’t do it. However, if they don’t mind, this can be a very useful tool. Anytime your professor says something that you believe could be helpful for you in the future, (while studying for your exam, doing homework, etc.) mark the time at which they said it on your notes. After class, go back through and take thorough notes on whatever it is they said. This is especially useful for when professors go off on tangents of important info and it’s hard for you to get it all down on your notes.
*Also, if you have a commute to work like I do, then what I find very helpful is to listen to the lecture recording on the drive.*
3. Take sloppy notes in class, touch them up afterwards. While in class, scribble all important information down. Don’t worry about making it pretty. Afterwards, go through and organize them into clear, concise notes that give you an excellent summary of the lecture. By doing this, you’re focusing more on the professor rather than looking down at your notebook.
4. Do all practice problems. This may sound like a no-brainer, but a lot of the time there are practice problems deemed optional by your professor. Because of this, many people decide not to do them. Seriously, just do them. Practice, especially when done right after class, really helps the information soak in.
5. Proofread essays with different font and size. When you reread the same Times New Roman 12 point font paper over and over, your mind become used to it, therefore skipping over little mistakes and typos. If you change the font as well as the size, your brain will stop skipping what previously looked familiar (ie; a typo that you’ve been skipping over the whole time)
6. Think of school as your job. If you aren’t a good employee, you’ll get fired. If you aren’t a good student, you’ll fail. In order to avoid getting fired, you make a good impression on the boss, work harder, etc. Apply that same concept with school; make a good impression on your professor, turn everything in on time, etc.

I am very excited for this upcoming school year to start. I have set many goals for myself and I hope you all do the same. Expect much more studying/educational posts for me as I’ll be using them to motivate myself and hopefully others. Good luck to all of you in your studies this year! ✨

that post saying “stop being so desperate to be in love and just live” is tea though ! not to be that girl but it seems like there’s so much pressure put on everybody to engage in romantic experiences and fall in love as fast as possible when there’s so much more to life than that. so people end up feeling miserable and embarrassed of the fact that they’re single when that’s literally nothing to be embarrassed about.
the desperate need to seek romantic attention for validation is corrosive and damaging. the idea that romantic love can somehow fix you or make all of your problems go away is false. love is work just like everything else. i hate this weird idea that being alone is bad, because the reality is that it’s unhealthy to be completely unable to exist in solitude for any duration of time without feeling absolutely miserable about it.
she was right and she should say it. stop being so desperate to find love and just live your life. stop trying to find yourself through romantic experiences and attention from other people. there’s no time limit on finding somebody who will love you. it isn’t a requirement to be successful or happy. just be.

i guess what ppl dont tell u about college is that is a very lonesome period of ur life. and that doesnt mean like u wont have lots of friends or u wont party or whatever but ur going to spend so much time alone. like cooking by yourself and studying n homework and driving and going to classes like……… its just you sometimes. and the trick is to use that time by yourself to relax and understand YOU better and iron out your own wants n wishes instead of wallowing

“to be born means being compelled to choose an era, a place, a life. to exist here, now, means to lost the possibility of being countless other potential selves.. yet once being born there is no turning back. and I think that’s exactly why the fantasy worlds of cartoon movies so strongly represent our hopes and yearnings. they illustrate a world of lost possibilities for us.” ― hayao miyazaki, starting point: 1979-1996

staying ahead in school
it would be nice to say that I always know what I’m doing, but with 2.5 jobs + four classes + social life….it gets pretty hectic. add in a delightful lack of time awareness, and battling the assignments i get every week is hard to handle. this past week, i had a lot of work obligations that I unfortunately had to let get in the way of my homework completions [not to mention a stop-messing-with-this-studying headache that I got on Thursday]. it’s really helpful to plan ahead so I can avoid that drowning feeling, and also avoid those days that my brain just doesn’t want to cooperate with me! these tips are all methods that I personally use to deal with school as a dyslexic student with poor time management skills, so they may not all work for you!
⚡️syllabi out the wazoo: I look over my syllabi as soon as I get them [up to four weeks ahead of time, or the night before class starts]. looking over usual homework due dates, and bigger exams and papers for my smaller classes means that I can gauge a general routine for my ‘study’ hours.
⚡️plug that ish in on a calendar: I have a Mac, so the calendar app works well enough for me. I like the idea of physical calendars, but I always seem to forget to make my writing small enough for other things…and because I have four classes and many things due every week…hand cramp central. my current bujo is actually just for jotting notes or little to-dos, but weekly spreads are really helpful as well if you keep up with it! if your school uses canvas, you can subscribe through a calendar app to monitor new assignment additions automatically.
⚡️ set reminders ahead of time: sometimes my lack of executive function skills get to me, and I push things off until the very last second. fooling myself by pushing due dates up two days early has helped me a lot, as I think Oh, this is due TODAY, let’s get it done, Pooh! rather than waiting until midnight when I’m tired and cranky and miserable about messing up my assignment. for exams, I have reminders set two weeks, and then one week in advance, so that I start reviewing material before it’s crunch time, and I have more time to truly absorb the content.
⚡️ find time to catch up: I’m a commuter, and the parking on my campus SUCKS. if I want a good spot, I have to get to school before 8 am, which usually means 2+ hours before work or class most days [unless it’s my 8 am, which I usually get to school an hour early for]. that gap is really good for getting ahead on assignments in the library [when it’s actually quiet and peaceful], meeting up with classmates/friends for quality time, and getting ready for a good day. the more you use those hours, the more free time you’ll end up having, because you won’t be spending the afternoon/evening on concepts that you should’ve known before class. this past week I found out about an event that I wanted to go to, on the very same day it was happening. luckily, I had already done a bunch of my readings, so I was free to go without worrying about hw! /// gonna be real and say I don’t take my laptop out while riding the train [don’t want to become a target], but I usually have a textbook of the day that I can read. even exposure to the material is helpful, and better than wasting that time on social media.. [guilty].
⚡️ plan assignments out in class: I’ve gotten pretty comfortable multi-tasking, and class is no exception. I usually schedule how I want to tackle assignments while I’m in class, so that I can start working on that game plan that day, instead of taking another few hours when I’m back to home to figure out how I want to structure my work time.
⚡️ studying…at work?: most of my jobs have allowed me to do my homework [lots of downtime], or at the very least, read while I’m on the clock. tempting to jump on reddit and kill time, but again….better to stick to education unless it’s truly scheduled FUN TIME. basically, if you’re at work, be working on something, whether it’s for coins or your degree. obviously, if your job is really tiring, no need to force things. and sometimes, work is a respite from the rest of your life. but if you have an opportunity to do so, and it’s not detrimental to your health….study at work.
some days, things just don’t go right! you feel sick or just blah, or something happened and you feel emotionally and mentally taxed, or you just don’t care! find a balance that works for you. I go back and forth between ‘it’s only for a few months, then I can rest’ vs ‘I just don’t give a [redacted] about this’. you won’t always choose the Straight A way every time. trust me, it won’t kill you to take a break either. be as wise as possible most of the time, so you can be foolish some of the time. :-]

its weird to think about how many places I’ve forced myself to study while traveling; not even a quick, impromptu road trip can stop me! as much as I preach the importance of taking breaks (because you need them), sometimes you just can’t afford to stop the hustle. obviously I can’t speak for everyone, but I think that if you really need to get shit done, you’ll make time for it; no excuses!

Picture this:
It is the day of your graduation. Finally, all those years of studying, reading, writing and staying up late preparing for tests and exams are over. Soon, you’ll be heading out into the real world- maybe you have a job lined up, or plan to look for one. Maybe an internship, or more study, or some other unexpected but equally wonderful path. You have done well academically, even if you lost motivation at times or messed up a few papers. As you get called onto the stage you stand in your shiny robe and look out into the audience to see the proud faces of your loved ones. You smile. All that time and effort had paid off, it was all worth it.
Still want to give up?
