Aphrodite was one of the first deities to come to me because She’s always been there.
In my childhood home, I had a habit of standing on the patio to admire a beautiful morning star as the sun rose. I found peace and comfort in those quiet moments. I later found out that star was Venus.
As I explored paganism and deity work, I often wondered what Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, could want with me. Now, I know.
She’s taught me to love myself in a radical, life-changing way. She’s taught me to find my own definition of beauty. She’s taught me real self-acceptance (it’s why I’m growing out my grey hair). She’s taught me how to redirect the nurturing I give to others to myself. She’s taught me all these things and to fight like hell for them (how I love Aphrodite Areia).
And yet, there’s still so much to learn from Her.💘

Happy Friday!
Friday is Aphrodite’s day every week and I like to honor Her by writing a little prayer. Today’s topic is self-care when it’s hard. I chose this because as someone with depression who is also a major people pleaser, it’s very hard for me to put myself first or care about myself at all, and I know I’m mot the only one who struggles with that.
Note: I do not write prayers often but am practicing, so this may not be good. Sorry!
Loving Goddess Aphrodite
Of the sea (Pontia)
Of the sky (Ourania)
Of the dark (Melainis)
I ask you to please help me with this request.
She who rules over love of all forms,
Assist me in caring for myself.
Help me to see me the way you do
Beautiful, Loving, and Human
And help me to treat myself like I deserve
with patience, kindness, and care.
For when the waves of my emotions
crash against my heart,
and when the skies are filled with sorrow
When all I can see is darkness,
You are the light.
I thank you for all that you have already done
for I now know how you see me.
I ask you to help me to take care of my mind and body
For I know that I am full of beauty.

The dangers of picking seashells
Most Aphrodite worshippers love the ocean for it's connection with our goddess, aswell as it's beauty and diversity and wanted to take a piece of it with us. We do this collecting shells or buying them from souvenir shops. Don’t worry, almost every person has done this at some point in their life, but it's never too late to educate yourself. Collecting shells from the ocean or beach has a severe long term impact on the environment and is our duty to protect the place were Lady Aphrodite was born.
A study in 2014 investigated the removal of seashells from beaches and concluded it’s causing significant damage to the many lifeforms that rely on shells.
Shells are homes for mollusks that carry their shell on their back throughout their lives. You might think they’re empty but most shells are alive when you pick them up. When they do empty, shells are used and reused as second hand homes by hermit crabs and are also used as hiding places by small fish. When they do disintegrate they are used by native birds to build their nest. By taking with you the sea shells you put in danger the life of these creatures.
Sea shells are also known for controlling the acidification of the ocean.
These and more are the reasons we shouldn't be picking sea shells from it's natural habitat. As someone from a country known for it's large sea coast I ask you to educate yourselves about this topic to help to protect this wonderful and beautiful enviroment.

A reason why I worship Aphrodite is because she is as viscious as she is loving.
She’s teeth and claws and the enemy of mankind
But she’s also a loving embrace and a gentle touch
And I love her for it
