Recently reread/caught up on The Remarried Empress and there is simply so much I am excited to see.
First and foremost, the fucking vindication I feel when we see Tyrant Heinrey popping up and the fact that he was in fact planning a war, unparalleled satisfaction. But on the flip side, with Navier, I really want her to actually put some harsh consideration into the fact that she will eventually have to go against her birth nation, because she doesn't seem to have really done that and its the one time i'm shaking my head in wonder at her lack of foresight.
The other thing that has grown even more strong is my sympathy towards Rashta. Mainly because for all the awful things she is doing, I understand her situation so clearly. She was a literal slave, and now she is trying everything she can to get out of that situation. The other thing is that I can't really be upset with her for the naivete that she carries, because no one has really attempted to educate her on the matters not found in books, outside of Duke Ergi, who is very clearly winding her up with just enough rope to let her hang herself and (potentially?) the empire. Also it frustrated me to see Sovieshu think that she was no longer innocent, because in like the next panel we see that she very much is just not in the visible cutesy way that he liked. The OTHER thing that makes me have a bunch of sympathy is seeing her give birth prematurely and going through, what seems to me, postpartum depression with no one to support or even acknowledge it. Compounded with the trauma from her first birth, its heart breaking. I really want to just pull her out of that situation and get her some therapy and community service.
And since I mentioned the man, Duke Ergi. Why do I still fucking love this man? Maybe its because through all the politics getting tangled due to the imperial family drama, he seems to be the only one keeping clear of it and pushing through for his goals. which are still??? What is this man's goal? Why did he go for Rashta? Was he meant to go for Navier at first? We have heard nothing about Bluvohan, and he is apparently the nephew of the king? Is a port really all he wants? He has Rashta majorly in his debt, and could have propped her up as his puppet in the empire but instead he is weaving her a rope to hang herself with. WHY? I should not still love this man as much as I do.
Oh and now that we've seen more of him, I have to mention Mckenna who is the MVP of the Western Empire. He theoretically has massive pull but instead of using it for himself, he is constantly working and doing his best to curb Heinrey's more destructive ideas. I love Mckenna and think he should simply get a nice vacation.

A bit of sense to ease the head
The 3rd hokage looks really dumb, cruel, and unaware which bugs me. So I changed one thing and made him the aging war general that he should be.
In the aftermath of the kyuubi, Sarutobi and his two anbu are the first to arrive. Seeing the corpses and the newborn, he immediately realizes that there will be a power vacuum if someone doesn't step up, and that the village is now in a very precarious situation. So he steps in. He has one anbu take the child to the orphanage and pick up other children along the way. The other is tasked with finding a suitable corpse. The he himself grabs the adults and takes them to intercept the forces heading his way. He breaks the news and immediately steps into his old role as hokage, not allowing any dissent.
When the birthing room is finally cleared, there is a newborn corpse alongside his wife. The unnamed Namikaze is declared dead that night alongside his parents. Naruto Uzumaki is just another poor orphan in the mess of orphans created that night.
Sarutobi then kills his anbu, leaving himself the only one who knows of Naruto's continued survival.
With this Naruto is well hidden and due to the orphan influx, Sarutobi has ample cause to improve orphanage funding and guard. (Not to mention orphans are a Shinobi village's greatest source of future assets)
The Problem would be soothing his counsil and making sure Konoha appears to remain strong. Especially a problem would be the apparent loss of their Jinchiuriki. But the right words to the right spies and it is known that there is still a Jinchiuriki but who is a fiercely guarded secret. Some speculate it is the Hokage himself.
I don't think Danzo would let this information be unknown to him and I don't think Sarutobi would withhold it. Danzo would be furious that the child wasn't given to ROOT and try to convince Sarutobi to hand him over. But Sarutobi is trying to honor the peace his successor dreamed of. Something he isn't even sure he believes in or knows how to accomplish but still trying his best. So Naruto stays free to be just a boy. Except. Except the boy grows to look just like his parents. Except Danzo starts the whispers of the demon fox reincarnating as the boy with whiskers and too much chakra for his age.
Sarutobi can mitigate the first problem by ordering away all of Minato and Kushina's associates. The second is trickier. Because having the rumor of the Kyuubi itself living and potentially fighting for Konoha is a powerful deterrent. And with people shunning the boy, it makes it very easy for Sarutobi to ensure the boy is personally loyal to him. Which as an old Shinobi general he can't deny the merit of. Especially with the rising inner village tensions. So. The laws go out. Uzumaki Naruto is to remain isolated and ignorant. For the good of peace and Konoha.

Hang on, follow up thought: She also kept him isolated from the rest of the world intentionally. Man only has his cat, mom, and grandpa/mentor.
And for all that he introduces himself like it should be known who he is. Nobody ever reacts to it. When by all rights, for the way he talks about himself at least (grain of salt i know, man has an ego) it feels like somebody besides just Lorroakan should know who he is.
And honestly Lorroakan is a dick so again, not sure how much to take at face, but he only mentions/recognizes Gale via how he relates to Mystra. Did he even know Gale's name?
Just an interesting disconnect I noticed and my posited theory to explain it.
Karsus, Mystra, and Gale
ok so. this is a thought that has been nagging at me since i got into the meat of Gale's story. I was listening to Gale explain Karsus's Folly and the destruction of the Weave and suddenly I had the thought that it actually makes sense the Mystra specifically singled him out. and it honestly makes the whole thing a little more fucked up I think.
As Gale puts it: imagine being a god, knowing you are immortal. imagine being wrong. (paraphrase i'm not gonna look the exact words up)
Karsus was the boy who would be a god. He was a wizarding prodigy with an amazing talent for manipulating the weave. who does that sound like? and Minsc mentions hiding young boys from Mystra's attention.
and it all comes together.
Mystra actively seeks out these young children when she sense them. And she ensures their loyalty to her. So when Gale is born a prodigy she seeks him out and ensures that he is molded in her image. And as a god she doesn't quite get human relationships, but knows the lengths people will go to for their love so she preempts any issues there. And, this is pure speculation here, i'll admit, I think she actually stunts Gale's power. Sure she helps him grow powerful, but I feel like she would subtly handicap him. Keep him only as powerful as she could easily control. And then when he uncovers the Karsite Weave, she sees it as his ambitions overcoming his love and drops the facade and him. And nothing more needs to be done. He has neatly ensured his own demise and once she gets her last bit of use from him his threat will be gone and she can continue on with her existence unhindered.

Genuinely loved the experience of being at camp for the first time and seeing all the companions with their tits out like they’re all gonna go clubbin or some shit
Then there’s Gale
Who’s just. So utterly swagless that his clothes smell like dusty old books. My man doesn’t give a fuck about the drip he’s getting his ass ready for bed
#bg3#gale#gale dekarios#funny#he is the only one that looks comfy#i have my own personal quest to make them all look that comfy in their camp clothes#they deserve to be cosy!

Astarion: I do admire how you got that lantern, you know.
Astarion: Not just your craftsmanship, although the dead pixies are - 'mwah'.
