Oh don’t mind me, just at a corporate job, trying to keep the light inside me aflame while squeezing in a time to piss in the most efficient way possible

Corporate life is so not real. Like why do my days consist of just data entry between three different softwares. I feel like a zombie

As a huge participant in higher education and academia overall, having a corporate job during my gap year is extremely weird and feels like a huge waste of time and knowledge and life and poetry and fanciful bounty and-

You got into dental school, now what?
Tumblr media
You’ve just suffered through the grueling dental school application process riddled with gpa values, crippling self-doubt and groveling for letters of recommendation that levitate upon review. Now, if the waiting and anticipation didn’t get to you first, it’s time to celebrate and strategize because…
⋆ ·˚ ༘ * YOU GOT IN! ⋆ ·˚ ༘ *
Below are a few things I recommend (and plan to do myself) to prepare for what lies ahead:
Reading is a great way to build your concentration and comprehension while building stamina to prepare for those wordy, lengthy lectures coming at you pretty soon. It’s not about how many books you read or necessarily the type of books you read at first, just try to start building the habit of reading at your leisure.
Strengthen core
Incorporating core strengthening exercises is integral in lessening back and neck pain that comes with grueling hours in sim lab and clinic. Working out in general is super important, not only for your health but also for overall stress relief with the increased course load. Practicing dentists and students have said that focusing on your core is something that has been proven to alleviate pain in the body.
Establish a routine
It doesn’t have to be perfect and it will definitely change once you’re officially in school but this is key to meeting the demands of 8+ hours of classes and extracurricular activities. It is just as important to be able to meet the demands of your academics as it is to maintain a balanced life outside of school. Establishing these hobbies and time management skills prior to starting school will make a world of difference to adjusting to dental school.
Practice iPad Notetaking
Ok, this one might just be for me but in my defense I was a strict pen-to-paper student in undergrad. I recently got an iPad as a graduation gift and I have no clue how to use the note-taking apps. So, this a big one for me because I plan to only or mainly use Goodnotes in dental school to have more organized study materials. (Any tips would be greatly appreciated)
Prepare for the big move
Now, I know a lot of you have opted for the luxury of in-state tuition and being in less crippling debt than the rest of us. I, however, hate the state I live in and couldn’t get any farther from it. With this decision comes brutal packing and prep to get my affairs in order to move across the country. I have yet to come up with a solid plan but it is definitely in the works as it should be for you. *Proper preparation is key*

a relationship should be fifty-fifty. She lays me gently in the cold dark earth and I crawl home to her.

btw you will miss this in 5 or 10 years. memory will smooth these circumstances down like a river stone, and you will find yourself longing for a shade of light or a moment of this particular innocence. you don't know about what happens next, and one day that will be the most alluring thing of all. don't leave it all for nostalgia. have a nice night now, whatever night it happens to be.

the only way to get what you want is to be brave enough to move towards it. if there is a willingness to be momentarily uncomfortable in order to live the life that calls from your heart then fear loses much of its claim over you and your decisions

Sometimes I sit and think about how crazy it is that my future career (something I don’t even have or have never had) means this much to me. Like I’ve dedicated over a decade of my life to it with no questions asked. What an interesting state of devotion I’ve been in…
