Hi so I just turned 18 on Thursday (2 days ago now) and yeah with having a job on the weekends and college the next day I can’t do much. Cause you’re meant to go out drinking and have fun I mean all the adults around me just kept talking about it, it’s normal for them that when you turn 18 you go and get drunk but I can’t really do that. Recently colleges made it so on Mondays we’re off which I’m really happy about but when I say I’m doing something other then studying (I’m expected to study 15 hours a week) I’m looked down upon because I’m not spending that time studying. No one thinks of that one extra day of a day where they get have fun but that they hate it because they struggle to work at home so to them it’s a waste and they might as well come into college anyway.

I’m very lucky to have the people I have now but I just remember that my Highschool years were just boring. Nothing happened. Like yeah I’ve got some interesting stories but none of them are like the ones you see in movies. I look back at Highschool, 2 years after graduating and being freshly 18 and thinking “I’ve wasted it”. No one in my friend group wanted to do anything. I never got invited to parties (I haven’t been to a party with people my age since I was about 11) and tbh from what I hear about them afterwards it seems like nothing happened. Hell I only stuck around for like the first 2 hours of my prom because it was just boring. And even then I don’t think I missed anything. I just have that feeling that it was all wrong.

But then again the place I live? Nothing to do. I hear that it used to be good and you could go out and have fun but all that fun stuff has shut down. It’s dodgy, no one feels safe to go there when it’s dark and the only “shopping centre” doesn’t stay open past 5. The only place that could be considered like a mall is about 40 minutes away.

And I know it’s not just me who thinks about this. Me and my friends just think our teenage years have been wasted. My life has only just begun and I already feel like it’s over. That there’s no other purpose for me except to work.

We’re all bored. We have jobs. And we don’t feel like teenagers.

Maybe this is the wrong platform to pose this question given the average tumblr user but

Is it just me or did our generation (those of is who are currently 20-30 ish) just not get the opportunity to be young in the 'standard' sense?

Like, everyone I talk to who's over 40 has all their wild stories about their teens and 20s, being young and dumb, and then I talk to my friends and coworkers and classmates, and we just... dont.

I was a prisoner in this ever-changing labyrinth. I was running through the corridors trying to get out while they got smaller (but I wasn’t panicked). I managed to find my way out, and there were other people who apparently were also stuck in the labyrinth, too. We were all celebrating when I realized one of the people was W*lbur S**t, so I told him to go the fuck away because I hate his guts and he wasn’t welcome at the celebration.
