my memorial map is looking a little bit bottom heavy. Hopefully by the end of today I can have a few more green diamonds at the top and middle.

Koori Mural TOM here’s another project I really love. Not something very many people would consider to be a ‘memorial’ as such, but it is a powerful commemorative artwork that tells the story of colonisation from an Aboriginal perspective. This video doesn’t make it clear, but the new panels added when the mural was digitised in 2013 were designed by a young Aboriginal artist  Gary Saunders, which is a bit of a sign of how things have changed in 30 years.

I love that Australia’s Irish Famine Memorial isn’t just about remembering the past, but also makes a difference into the future by providing support and scholarships for women today who have come to Australia as refugees
