Met these two inspiring hikers on the track. Kylie from Tamworth NSW and Sue from Melbourne over here to walk the #bibbulmuntrack What makes me so inspired is that they both were here last year to achieve the walk but sadly didn’t get through with one breaking her foot along the way, but they are not letting it stop them coming back the following year to achieve it this time. Well done girls it inspires me when people are knocked down but get right back up and take on the challenge again. After an exceptionally fun weekend, I was feeling glimpses of those post-holiday blues I got living in Perth. Even though I’m constantly surrounded by my little people, I somehow get lonely during the week - I mean who doesn’t enjoy a recurrent discussion of how roads are constructed 🤦🏻���♀️🌿 ~ So to give little minds new subjects to ponder - and me a much needed perspective - I took the kids up to Monkey Rock yesterday. ~ It’s not a challenging hike and one that Jackson has been capable of walking since 2.5 yo (there may have been a piggyback on the way down that first time) We talked about boot cleaning stations, sticks vs branches and “laws of the jungle” - as apparently the #bibbulmuntrack leads there 🙊🌿 ~ Gracie enjoyed some close contact with me whilst surveying the bush land. Bum Rock from Healing Beach. Lots of 4wds on the tracks today, so I kept to the blocked off tracks and the Bibb. I enjoyed sitting on the warm granite above Healing beach beside the resilient white sticky tailflower bushes that can grow in the slenderest fissures in the rock. Their leaves are sticky and the flowers are aromatic, maybe these plants extract nurtients from passing caprtured small insects. As going to Bum Rock involves deeply furrowed 4wd tracks I set off west instead, following the blocked off tracks, on a quest to find the bunny orchid with the most blooms per stem = my record is eight (or six flowers and and two buds; or seven flowers). Adenanthos are so intriguing close up - we have three species all beloved of honey possums. Not too many hibbertia in flower right now, but insect life is thriving with ashy looking crickets #bibbulmuntrack #bumrock #lowlandsbeach

A real moment of pride was when my 4 year old made it through a 5Km hike recently (with a little ice cream bribery)! #RockyPoolTrail commences at the end of Spring Rd, Kalamunda and is another brilliant family friendly hike! This trail features plenty of ups and downs, and steep ones at that! The decents can be a little tricky so please be careful. A bit of ‘winging it’ is required for this hike as you do have to head #OffTheBeatenTrack for a few hundred metres through the bush but following the trail notes advice of sticking to the view of overhead powerlines definitely kept us on track. Eventually you will arrive at Rocky Pools! As we visited this spot mid-Autumn it was very dry so i suggest late Winter would be best. Despite this, we had a great time climbing and exploring the granite rocks! The final leg of this trail follows a section of the #bibbulmuntrack through Piesse Brook. Join me on a scenic 31km solo hike down the Bibbulmun Track in Western Australia. I ditched my 4WD for this episode and headed down his legendary long distance track on foot.

This episode begins at Canning Highway through virgin Jarrah forest, crossing Canning River, climbing Mount Cuthbert and Mount Vincent, camping at Canning and Monadnocks huts and finishing at Sullivan Rock.
