Musubi ( 2020 )
When I see the thinly coiled strands of clay tightening and twisting around in my hands, they crack but are still able to hold their shape around each other like waves. I feel a powerful, beautiful and profound connection to the material from our mother earth.
Each piece of work for this series is inspired by natural form. I apply coiled clay carefully to show that each piece is supporting this aggregation.
I wish to extend the sense of beauty I feel from working with ceramics and use it to convey the power of nature through my work.
H:340mm x W:110mm
Throwing and Hand building, Original ion glaze, slip, transparent glaze, Original Matt white on the original clay mixed with local soil from Scotland

My handbuilding workshop will be coming back at Pantechnicon on 15th May! All the pieces will be carefully glazed and fired @studiopotterylondon. Thanks for making this collaboration happen, our lovely curator @japan_kylie! It's sold out already but we're planning to have a few more seats available, there'll be another one coming up too so stay tuned! Rebeat ( 2021 )

Rebeat ( 2022 )
Languages, cultures... It seems like I've become immersed in such a different world since I began this journey so far away from my home. But I've also come to realize that we also share many things in common throughout the world.
I hope my work lives on as a piece of nature and helps people to celebrate the common things that we all have in our lives no matter where we are from or what lives we have lead... like our heartbeats.

I blended clay with iron-rich soil from the east coast of Scotland.  I then covered the pottery with natural ash left over from previous wood firing. The firing was a 65 hour process.
I'm very honoured to be a part of "ASH, EMBER, FLAME  a Japanese kiln in Oxford" in Embassy of Japan, London. Thank you so much for all the people who involved to make this exhibition happened.
