2024 is starting to wind down, and I still haven't finished my Mellon Chronicles bindings. But I haven't given up, either. Life keeps evolving, and maybe if I stick to my guns I'll have time for personal projects again soon.

If you don’t share your inner feelings (and aren’t in an obvious public queer relationship), do you think you can easily pass as straight (and/or cis)?

Pretty sure I just got another attempted message from this person. Um. I once again only got the phone notif. No idea what's happening!
This time! Let's try: send me an ask or message, putting your username at the beginning of the body of your message. That way I can see it and maybe try reaching out to you instead of what we're trying now. (You could also just reblog this actually.)
Also, fair warning since I think you're asking me for files: I printed my SBP pages in 2016 or 2017, I think. I would not personally reuse my .ind files if I were to do it again (even if I still used InDesign); they were pretty rudimentary formatting. Also, those files are on a harddrive somewhere in a box. The pdf/other docs I acquired images and text from may be hiding in an email (unsure - otherwise they'd be on that harddrive), if that's what you're after, much easier to dig for. But that's the state of that.
Someone has been trying to message me about my SBP binding (or did so a while ago) and tumblr is definitely eating those messages. They pop up as an alert on my phone, then I can't find them anywhere.
Please reply to this post if this was you, and I'll try messaging you with my main. Or you can try sending me an ask; those seem to at least be going through, and I can find them on desktop.
Thank you! Apologies! etc!

"writers deserve attention more than actors" literally only 2% of actors can pay the bills with acting. For every megastar on screen there are a dozen other people in the shot who are SAG. Acting gets so glamorized but there are SO MANY people in SAG who NEED residuals to live on. Background Party Girl #4 needs her check too!!!! There are people who play recurring characters on syndicated shows who cant afford health insurance!!! Ke Huy Quan gave an oscar winning performance and LOST HIS HEALTH INSURANCE the next year.

I PROCLAIM A SALE!
Prints. Bookplates. Journals. Sketchbooks. PATCHES. Planners. COMMISSIONS?! Fandom. Queer shit. How-to for making your OWN books. Books for your spells, recipes, fanwork, and next great novel. It’s ALL going on sale.
Quick info: - sale lasts through Jan 23, 2023 - go to https://ko-fi.com/ajollyyarn - COUPON FOR IN-STOCK INVENTORY: 30N2023 - COUPON FOR COMMISSIONS: 30OFF2023 - ko-fi tips and memberships are also open, but not discounted
Literally all inventory and all commissions, including things previously discounted, are included. I’ve never run a sale (that I remember) this big, or with such a big discount.
Commissions? You want? I will make prints, books, books with prints, planners, custom bookplates, bookmarks, you contact me about it, you got it. If it’s not already in the commission section, just reach out to me. I want to talk. Commissions are fun and I already frankly undercharge for them. Plus there’s now a DISCOUNT.
Why am I doing this? Real talk? Only for you, tumblr.
See, I had to get some very expensive medical tests done that I am required to pay off in a very short amount of time, because what they are and how American health insurance isn’t helping me. I have more major medical procedures likely coming up, and I’m currently in physical therapy. None of that is cheap, and the physical therapy is interfering a little with my other, already part-time, job.
Also, this week some “someday I’ll fix it” problems with our house became “no, this needs fixed ASAP actually” problems. Our roof needs replaced and some other repairs, and a door needs replaced. Again, all expensive, often requiring up-front or upon-delivery payment, and it’s the beginning of winter here.
I am looking for another job, but that process takes time. So we’re doing a BIG SALE! 30% OFF! WOOO!
eta: I’m sorry, I only do shipping within the US since I moved off of etsy. There is a DIY bookbinding PDF available, and I could do PDF commissions if you’re outside the US and interested in something.
Check it out! Spread it around! Tell your friends and your mom!

Money for old rope
Old rope is just that, rope that was used on a ship but has been replaced by new rope. There was a lot of rope on a ship, really a lot of rope, e.g. HMS Victory had 42km of rope for her rigging alone.

The safety of a ship also depended on the quality and condition of the ropes, so worn ropes had to be replaced. Moreover, while the standing rigging (the ropes that supported the masts and did not move) could be impregnated with tar, the running rigging (used to control the yards and sails) could not be coated and had to be replaced regularly. Now there was a lot of used and old rope and so they were given a new task, e.g. as oakum, but even if a ship had to be caulked quite a lot, there was still enough dew over it.
Therefore, the sailors sold them in the next port to anyone who could use them (after explicit permission, of course). From the 17th century onwards, bookbinders, for example, shredded rope into millboard, a solid substance from which the cardboard for book bindings was made. So a good way to reuse old ropes and make some extra money for the Sailors.

etsystrike.org for more info and link to a petition to help out
I have to go have a public breakdown on instagram about what this company’s done to my hope, so people take this seriously, and I can’t do that twice. And then I have to livestream, because etsy decided it wasn’t going to advertise for anyone who didn’t pay extra. Beyond the 6.5% and the other 5% and also the posting fee that happened every time we blinked.
Pirates don’t cross picket lines.

It’s been a long week, so I’m going to keep this short and sweet.
Etsy is once again raising their vendor fees, and as A Jolly Yarn is a microbusiness, this very much puts me in danger of shutting doors if I can’t do quick problem-solving. Their solution is “raise prices,” and since my goal has always been “make it beautiful, try to make it affordable too,” that’s a tough one. But while I’m working on my back end options, as it were, the etsy sellers are getting together and calling for a strike. A change. Because I’m not the only person who’s tired.
So April 11-18th, A Jolly Yarn is going on strike, and my etsy shop is shutting down.
Please support by: - signing this petition - telling everyone you know! - boycotting etsy during the strike - supporting your fav artists, artisans, and vintage sellers elsewhere and/or beforehand; quite a few have pre-strike sales to try to build a buffer a union would usually provide (mine is 15% off $10+)
