Conceptual Development - 05/06
My work explores concepts surrounding the future of biology, energy and genetic engineering. Living in a society where people are surrounded by images and digital culture daily, will these three concepts help create a world that alters ecosystems? To what extent will visual appeal and popular culture test our natural environments?
My work shows three anaglyphs that have been created from digital photographs of bamboo plants. My concept is inspired by Japanese culture and society. The anaglyphs can be viewed with or without the 3D glasses.
The anaglyphs aim to challenge your perceptions of reality and question the limits of the photo as a physical art form.

Printed Final Proofs
Tumblr media
happy with quality of colour but would of liked background mirrored image to be more noticeable
despite achieving 3D affect on computer, cyan anaglyph is weakest of the three as it doesn’t look as 3D
would print again with adjustments but cost of prints is an issue
will provide one pair of 3D glasses for display - want to keep exhibiting space aesthetically pleasing

Final Proof of Anaglyphs
decided to re-shoot with DSLR camera - higher resolution and quality of images just to be safe when printing
colours transition from cooler to warmer tones (blue>magenta>orange)
neon tones to emphasise futuristic motifs
flipped and mirrored image in background at lower opacity to emphasise definition of anaglyph effect

TEST PRINT
extremely happy with colours and lighting
minimal loss of details from blowing up image into large scale
dimensions for final prints: 48.15 cm x 69.29 cm with 3cm white border

Printing Options
Tumblr media
large scale more suited for grabbing attention of audience
large scale allows audience to view work from a distance for anaglyph affect + intimately to examine x-ray/ finer details of bamboo in the frame
be weary of blowing up image - could result in loss of details due to resolution
preference for roughly A2/A3 size - 70c per cm at University

leaning towards mirrored images of bamboo without faded background
although images with background create depth, the ones without are more aesthetically pleasing
thinking about displaying 3-5 A2 prints
