Anti as the Phantom from Phantom of the Opera! I might just make this an AU cuz I love this idea!

I love this so much, I also personally love this casting: Phantom - Dark, Christine - JJ, Raoul - Anti, Meg - Wilford, Madame Giry - Henrik, Carlotta - Marvin

Which one should I draw next? I already drew Dark as the phantom so I’ll do either Anti as Raoul or JJ as Christine! :3 (I’ll post Dark next!)

JJ Appreciation

I would like to talk about Jameson for a second.

Theres been a lot of talk in the community about him lately, and honestly I think he’s incredibly underrated and under utilized. (Not even talking about the people who have said he’s ‘boring’ because he can’t speak, something that, as a person with a speech disorder, I have some ISSUES with.)

A lot of people characterize him as just a sweet, innocent little man who likes his puppets and is getting terrorized by Anti. And that’s true! But it’s not even close to the entire story.

Of all of the egos that Anti has directly accosted on camera, (those being C!Jack, Schneep, JJ, and Chase.) JJ IS THE ONLY ONE WHO WE SEE ACTUALLY FIGHTING BACK:

Look at JJ here! He is not a passive victim, he’s fighting the bastard with everything he has!

No other victim of Anti’s has been able to do this. Not c!Jack in Say Goobye, not Schneep in KJSE, not Chase in Dark Silence/Anomaly Found.

On top of that, if Jameson is actually from the 1920’s and that’s not just a stylistic choice, he almost certainly fought in WWl. Out of all the egos except for probably Jackie, HE IS THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS SEEN ACTUAL COMBAT. JJ is no pushover.

I think the big thing a lot of people have been unable to understand is that kindness and weakness are NOT synonyms. ‘JJ is a kind, sweet man’, and ‘JJ would most definitely punch Anti in his stupid face’ are statements that should be able to coexist!

I leave with a request for JSE artists, writers and other creatives: let JJ kick some ass. He’s clearly capable, and I say the man deserves it.

This is a ramble, but everyone forgot Jameson’s rage so quickly. Everyone forgot his fear and aggression; they forgot that he fights for himself every moment Anti takes control. They forgot him snarling and contorting his non-speaking mouth in pure fear and hate for the strings. 

LOOK AT HIM! DOES THAT LOOK LIKE A DAMSEL IN DISTRESS? OR DOES THAT LOOK LIKE A MAN AT WAR?

The hatred for his puppet master, the FIGHT in his eyes and curves of his lips, the terror and the fighting spirit in spite of it!

Look at him! He is snarling! This man has a fight response, he is not hiding in the corner of his box all mopey and miserable, he is screaming and tearing and lunging with teeth bared the second he senses Anti trying to puppet him. 

The mix of pure animalistic fear and utter disgust for Anti is genuinely my favourite moment from JJJJ, yet everyone just… let it slip by? He is not just a soft, gentle little baby.

If disabled fans begging you to not infantilize him doesn’t work, at least seeing him so angry, so strong, so full of fight and hate, should have convinced you to treat him like an adult? Anti is clearly the one forcing him to act in a childish manner and play with toys, and even if in your personal headcanons he does enjoy those on his own, I am pleading with the fandom to treat this character like an adult in a traumatizing situation.

(This is not bashing on headcanons, it is a plea from a nonspeaking person to recognise your own ableist beliefs that make you see a nonspeaking adult man act like this and yet still infantilize him and treat him as helpless.)

Edit: To add to this, mute, d/Deaf, or disabled characters are adults and deserve to be treated as such WITH their disability, not in SPITE of it. Nonspeaking or selectively mute characters who are childish or in positions of distress are still worthy of being treated like adults with autonomy. Disabled adults can act however they please and this does not give you the right to infantilize them or treat them as helpless. Jameson is friendly, kind, and a good entertainer. He is mute/nonspeaking and in a very traumatising situation. Those are facts that can co-exist with him being a fully capable adult being. He is not an adult “in spite” of being mute. He is a mute adult. 

He knows BSL, he can think and talk all for himself. He doesn’t need ‘slides’ or magic to talk. There are nonspeaking languages, in spite of what some seem to think. (There’s also AAC apps and devices if you don’t want to write BSL.) Sign language is a real, living, flourishing language that he canonically speaks. Please stop excusing a lack of research with ‘magic’.
