If there’s one antagonist that is emanating evil in the whole series, I truly think it’s Zhao. Azula is too, but she has more depth and interest. As for Ozai, I frankly don’t feel as much of fear as the other two. Zhao is purely thrived by sadistic power and glory. He’s manipulative, does not care for basic respect or even royalty. He killed a spirit, and that’s no small thing. That’s the scene I wanted to represent on this card.

Do you think Baby Ozai would have bullied bugs and other little creatures?

Well, if we subscribe to the supplemental material like the comics or the Fire Nation Legacy book as canon, it’s possible that young Ozai’s ferocious temper would have resulted in such acts.

If we stick purely with the show, from my observations, there’s not much that suggests Ozai would have been anything but ambivalent towards nonhuman creatures.

But then, this is an event page, so it isn’t about me. Let’s open it up to the Palooza Experts and get some conversation going in the comments!

A Hot Lil Announcement

I don't know about you, but life is a lot lately. With this in mind, I am officially announcing that there will be no Zhaozai Palooza 2024 event. Maybe later in the year we can have a smaller event or something, but for now, the focus of this account is going to be as a repository/archive of predominantly animated series Ozai and/or Zhao posts.

I'd also like to express my heartfelt gratitude for the community of fun-loving and thoughtful folks who have been with the Palooza from the beginning, and who have joined along the way. Planning and running fandom events is always a labour of love, and you all are a delight.

I'm about to write the most blasphemous, sexiest Zhao/Lu Ten fic, it's going to be rivals to friends to lovers to strangers

Hurt/Comfort/Hurt, you know. Here's the concept below, I don't care if I get no likes, I just need to scream my thoughts

Lu Ten has an oddly big connection to the spirit world and that alone has lead him to being able to meditate and put himself in the spirit world, and he's actually the reason Iroh wisens over the years. However, due to misguidance of his country and believing this war is to share prosperity and better people who aren't able to help themselves, he still excitedly wants to be a part of his great country's military.

He meets Zhao at boot camp and all while Lu Ten is met with royal respect, he insists in just playing the role of the fellow cadet. He believes this will humble him and guide him on being a better leader for his own future military when he's an old man and finally follows in his own father's steps when the time is right. Because surely Iroh, his wonderful father and general, will surely be Fire Lord one day, many years away.

Zhao doesn't understand him, thinks he's foolish and spoiled beyond belief. Thinks he's an idiot and doesn't know the coming era will be truly based on gained greatness so he better be using his title now. Zhao thinks he himself might even be more revered than a Fire Lord some day.

Lu Ten senses something fascinating about Zhao. Something keeps calling out to Lu Ten that Zhao is tied to the moon. He'll do something great one day and the moon spirit will be looking down on him. And he knows it's meant to be involving the ocean, so he's the reason Zhao chooses to go into the Navy. He thinks it's perhaps for a beautiful reason because Lu Ten himself feels tied to the sun spirit.

One man trusting in the spirits and one man destined to eventually hunt them continously circle each other until one's light is finally extinguished

Might depend on what you’re looking for! The Palooza and other Rarepair events have certainly seen some Ozai-centric material, and there are a few older works kicking around that warrant recommendation if you’re interested!

There’s like, no fire lord Ozai fanfics and thats sad.

AtLA Rarepair Month - May 2024

Hello and welcome to the Avatar: The Last Airbender Rarepair Month event!

This event is a month long, spanning the entirety of the month of May 2024, and will be devoted to any and all forms of content celebrating the Rarepair ships of AtLA.

Content can include but not limited to fanfiction, fanart, moodboards, edits, music videos and playlists.

Prompts:

Week 1 - Tea Time + Role Reversal + Hobbies- May 1st to May 6th

Week 2 - Survival + Bending Swap + What "Family" Means - May 7th to May 12th

Week 3 - Food + Animal Companions + Dreams/Nightmares - May 13th to May 18th

Week 4 - Prison + Sparring Practice + Spirits - May 19th to May 24th

Week 5 - Weapons + Behind enemy lines + Secret Pleasures + Free Space - May 25th to May 31st

The rules for entries are as follows:

-Must be 18+ to participate, as we will be accepting NSFW entries (make sure to tag appropriately for content warnings)

-A rarepair must have 100 or less fics on ao3 to be considered acceptable.

-For this event we are excluding any Canon Character x Reader submissions.

-We will, however, accept Canon Character x OC submissions.

-All content is acceptable, please be courteous of other people's submissions and do not leave hate or discourse in the comments and tags. This is a celebration of rarepairs and encouraging more content for rarepairs in the fandom. If you don't like something someone made, just keep scrolling.

Avatar: Year of the Dragon event prompts are here! There are two prompts per day, plus two bonus prompts that could be used for any day. You're welcome to combine prompts and interpret these however you'd like. As a reminder the event runs from Friday, February 9 through Sunday, February 11, 2024.

Announcement: Prompt Requests Open!

It's time! Please use this form to submit your best prompt ideas for Avatar: Year of the Dragon.

A few guidelines to keep in mind:

We're aiming for two prompts per day plus maybe some bonus ideas, so send as many ideas as you'd like.

Prompts should be character/ship agnostic, meaning they work well for multiple characters and ships. For example, "Fire Nation Royal Family" is not a great prompt because it's too restrictive, but "Legacy" or "Rumors" or "Are they really that big?" might be.

This is a sexy event, so we especially encourage prompts that lend themselves to spicy content.

We hope that a number of prompts will work well for art and other creations as well as writing, so think colors, imagery, or ideas that can be interpreted broadly. For example, "red string" is more visually evocative than "soulmate AU" as well as more open to interpretation, e.g. could mean shibari.

We'll leave prompt suggestions open through the end of the week. Remember, prompts should be ship/character agnostic (e.g. "workplace AU" and not "how Zhao got promoted") so they can be used for a wide range of characters and, obviously, lend themselves to a nsfw event.
