[ID: But his story is not over, because, as I said earlier, he is not dead.
This is not the first time I have said this, and many individuals believe that I have no proof, and that I am indulging my human half's need for "wishful thinking."
But it is not. I know this logically; it is actually my Vulcan half that has the proof.
One of the effects of my peoples ability to mind-meld is a permanent connection between the mind of the Vulcan initiating the meld and that of the subject. From moment to moment, I am only vaguely aware of these connections; our mental disciplines keep them compartmentalized and away from our daily thought processes.
But one thing we are always certain of is when a connection is lost when someone dies.
Over the years, I have experienced the death of the Horta on Janus IV, and of Dr. Simon Van Gelder, and of Gracie the whale. The experience was akin to a building at night with its windows lit. And then one light goes out. You know whose light it is; you feel them gone.
I had mind-melded with James T. Kirk on several instances over his lifetime. His light still burns. He lurks in the recesses of my mind.
Sometimes, I try to focus on him, to try to determine where he is. I do not believe he knows, but I can sense his emotional state. Wherever he is, he is happy.
I do not believe in an afterlife, but I will let my human half indulge in some wishful thinking.
He will return.]

"I didn't realize this moment took place in the distant future. And so there I was, looking at myself in the mirror. It's hard to explain. I just remember thinking 'Oh my god Saavik. Saavik lived a good life. This woman lived a good life, she had purpose. Her life had meaning' it's like life had been good to this character."
Robin Curtis on Saavik's character in The Roddenberry archive - Robin Curtis: Becoming Saavik

PLEASSSEEEE tell me that someone else noticed the fucking Vulcan WEDDING BELL INSTRUMENT on the wall in the background in Unification????????
Tumblr media Tumblr media
like I know that there are other Vulcan objects (like Spock's lute) in the room but I feel that there's something significant to the framing of the shot; the way Kirk walks through it, the way it's aligned to his head height (AND - the naming of the episode!!!! Unification!!! they are becoming one!!! Unification, as in: parted from me, and never parted. Never and always touching and touched. we meet at the appointed place!!!!! I await you!!!!!!! they are getting vulcan married (and following human tradition, they make out sloppy style (hand-wise), double claspin it, at the end - you may kiss the bride and whatnot, I suppose).

The Star Trek tag is festive as heck right now and I am loving most of it!
People already making fan art: amazing!
The meta: top notch!
People arguing that the film doesn't canonize K/S: need to learn to be a little silly! I'm not taking any of the "it's canon!" memes seriously, but even if some people do mean it in earnest, who cares eh?
People bashing Saavik (VERY few fortunately!): Sorry you gotta be so wrong about this. I still find her to be a Very Huggable Character.
People concerned about the implication that Saavik married Spock and had his child: valid. She didn't though! That's the beauty of a film without dialogue! Oh, they didn't spell it out? Then I don't see it! Saavik is there because she loves her mentor and father-figure! Because I have decided this is so!
People being negative in the tag: blocked for our mutual benefit 🤝

#thinking about fandom grandma again
I was ALSO thinking about @spockslash today! She was so darn great. What a wonderful day to remember her!
cannot stop thinking about all the fandom foremothers (and fathers) who would have been so happy to see this. who never could have imagined the technology involved to create it 54 years after the show was cancelled. the ones who were around to watch generations but not to see this final moment, and how they would've smiled and cried and drawn their art and clutched onto each other in excitement just like we are <3

I had NO IDEA the Unification short was about to (or had already?) drop[ped] when I got dressed for work last night (whoo night shift). All I knew was that it was going to be a long day, and I hoped that T'hy'la Socks would buoy my spirits. I had no idea they were harbingers of the great joy and emotional wreckage that was Unification.
(Cuckoo is not impressed.)

“There are always possibilities, Spock said. And if Genesis is indeed life from death, I must return to this place again.”
Yes, there's certainly some of that, certainly with love overtones. Deep love. The only difference being, the Greek ideal... we never suggested in the series... physical love between the two. But it's the... we certainly had the feeling that the affection was sufficient for that, if that were the particular style of the 23rd century. That's very interesting. I never thought of that before.

I am not going to be even a little bit normal about this new short film. It is a fairy tale I have told myself about these characters for as long as we've known their respective fates. Whether you see their relationship as platonic or romantic, they are quite literally
Soulmates
And they deserved to be together at the end of their journey.
You're not crying, I'M crying! Or something.

You show up for your first day at Copyright-Free Magic School. As you're going through orientation, you're informed that all new students get a school-assigned familiar that they are responsible for housing and maintaining. The staff member assures you that your assigned familiar is appropriately chosen and reflects you in some way.
Spin this to find out yours. (Remember, you are responsible for maintaining this familiar in your dorm room.)
