Weekend Hashtag Project: #WHPtakebackflash

Weekend Hashtag Project is a series featuring designated themes & hashtags chosen by Instagram’s Community Team. For a chance to be featured on the Instagram blog, follow @instagram and look for a post announcing the weekend’s project every Friday.

For many mobile photographers, using the phone’s flash has been a longtime taboo, but the goal this weekend is to do just that. Break out of the box and take creative photos using flash! Some tips to get you started:

The closer you are to your subject, the more washed-out your photo will be. Experiment with using your flash from varying distances for different effects.

It doesn’t need to be nighttime to use your flash. Try shooting with your flash during the day to fill in shadows from sunlight.

Watch out for reflective surfaces like metal and glass. The reflected flash can create a distracting burst of light in your photos.
