Today marks three years alcohol free. The past three years have been nothing short of turbulent and life changing. I wouldn't trade them for the world. The coffee is very hot. (at Coava Coffee Roasters)

Moving across the country is the hardest thing I have ever done. Every morning I wake up and wonder if I made the right choice. I can’t pretend you don’t exist, I just can’t. I should be happy living in a new town and exploring all it has to offer, but when it comes down to it, I just don’t care. Part of me has been removed and I wonder if I’ll ever recover.

August Air
I could never get used to the sight of them boys swinging in that tree. The way they swung stiff, without expression, without care. The wind couldn’t get used to it neither. The tree felt the same way. The branch felt sick with each sway. The August air hung heavier than usual, even for my southern taste, but them boys still swung--back and forth, back and forth. That rope so tight you could feel it. The people stared and cheered and hollered and gave each other hugs--a celebration of the most evil kind. I felt sick, like that there branch. This was no moment of joy or excitement for me. Them boys still swung from that branch, from that tree, in that wind. I couldn’t bare it anymore and I turned my head away from that there tree. Them boys didn’t seem to be bothered much by that August air.

Bl'ast - "Blood"
Forget Black Flag, Bl'ast was the band they wanted to be and wished they could be. Bl'ast was louder, darker and heavier than anything Black Flag could ever dream to be. This record contains an unearthed and unheard Bl'ast session from 1987, which contains a completely alternate version of their 1987 classic, "It's In My Blood." This version contains the guitar tracks of then 2nd guitarist William Duvall, who later quit the band prompting Bl'ast to remove his guitar tracks and release the version of "It's In My Blood" their fans knew of, until now.
The record sounds thicker and fuller, not only because of the addition of William Duvall's guitar tracks, but also Dave Grohl's help in remixing and remastering the 25 year old tapes for release. This record has fucking balls like no other hardcore record does. I suggest you head over to the Southern Lord Record Records website, or your local record store, and pick up a copy of this ripper. So fucking good. 110 stars.
Side note; William Duvall went on to be the vocalist for a newly reformed, Alice In Chains. Funny how the world works.

...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead - "Source Tags & Codes"
The record that brought that weird-o Austin band into the homes of millions. Their first full-length for major label Interscope records would also be their un-official introduction to the world at large. Their video for the single, "Another Morning Stoner" played on MTV at prime hours exposing them to high school and college kids across the country, shooting their popularity skyward. I remember seeing them in 2002 opening up for Queens of the Stone Age and being blown away by their stage presence. I remember I was just 21 and was pretty fucking drunk by the time they hit the stage. I remember thinking in my drunken mind "the British press was right, these guys are fucking amazing live!" I haven't seen them live since then, but I have heard they still kill it live. I kind of fell off the Trail of Dead, well, trail after this record and they have had a difficult time bringing me back. This record will always rule in my book and along with their self-titled release, it will be their crowning achievement.
