Peeta Mellark is very dear to me.

I have a theory that economic upward mobility is technically allowed in District 12.

Like theoretically Asterid would’ve inherited the Apothecary and Burdock could have “moved up” to the merchant class as an employee of the Apothecary.

But Asterid’s parents disowned her for marrying a miner.

Merchants only being allowed to marry other merchants to keep their businesses doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

It saddens me to think that marriages in D12 were once love matches but then turned into arrangements.

I bet when Katniss smiled in the woods Gale thought it was because of him. It didn’t occur to him that she just felt free and close to her dad in the woods.

Was that mean?

It’s okay, I’ll say something nice about Gale.

I think he performs well under pressure and I’m glad he was there to protect Katniss throughout Mockingjay.

Also I’ve seen some discourse about what if Gale went into the first games with Katniss.

I think Mockingjay is the closest we’ll get to an answer. He’s strategic, apathetic, and in a way playing the game.

In D13 he trains and prepares for battle. He films propos. He studies his enemy and chooses to fight everytime.

Gale steps into the arena when Squad 451 goes to the Capitol which is filled with traps, mutts, and death.

When Gale figures out Katniss’s plan to leave he wants to go with her. He’s protective over Katniss and wants to keep her safe but he knows she won’t change her mind so they least he can do it stick by her side until the end.

And like Peeta he asks Katniss to kill him, and just like Peeta she couldn’t…

There’s something about Otho Mellark only having boys and Burdock Everdeen only having girls… and then their kids marry each other…

Otho would’ve loved Katniss like his own and Burdock would’ve loved Peeta like his own.

The real tragedy of Catching Fire isn’t Snow realizing Katniss loves Peeta.

It’s Peeta realizing that Katniss loves him.

He’s in the arena with the girl that he loves, again.

He knows the Quarter Quell is meant to punish Katniss for something they both did.

Now she’s got it in her head that she’s suppose to save him. But she doesn’t understand she has people who need her at home.

So he tries to reminder of her family, but she won’t listen and kisses him. Really kisses him.

And for a moment he loses himself. He’s captivated by her lips. He knows he should pull and try to reason with her but the kiss doesn’t end.

There’s something very different about this kiss, he can feel it. It’s sloppy and desperate and urgent. This kiss isn’t for the cameras, it’s just Katniss.

They break apart (after getting caught) and he can see it in her eyes.

She loves him.

But they’re in the arena and only one of them can leave, and it’s going to be her.

They protected each other, it wasn’t until they got separated that it all went wrong.
