do you skate pigeon toed by any chance? i'm in training as well, and i realized that in pack scenarios i would automatically resort to pointing my toes inward. it would cause me to fall super easily. some of the other ladies told me it's common in new skaters, and told me to work on my upper leg/hip strength. worked like a charm!

That is very possible! I haven't noticed it - but I'll pay more attention to it at practice tomorrow. Thank you!

"Needing some derby advice"

Sorry I have been absent. Fundraising and related things have taken over my life. I’m still pretty fresh - mostly because I was the only freshie when I started so I have been waiting a long time to finally do my skills testing. No matter - my big moment is almost here. Skills is on the 20th which means if I pass I can play this season - definitely. But now there is an issue. I’m not performing well. I know in my heart I am much better than this and it’s stressing me more. And I an falling down CONSTANTLY! I have fooled around with my trucks changed my wheels gotten lower, back straighter. No matter - I continue to fall without cause it seems. Testing is soon and I need my drive back but I’m so hard on myself and if I continue to do poorly I cant get it back. My confidence is gone. Any idea what might be causing this falling? Like randomly just collapsing on the track? Have you ever been in such a rut? What should I do?

It's awesome that you want to keep her involved. She is lucky to have people who want to encourage her. But you know.. as a single mom myself I would say she might just have to accept that as much as she wants to do this right now maybe she just can't commit to it. Is there a local Rec league? Rec league would probably be better for her right now. Even if she shows up whenever she can and jumps into scrims. Just being around other adults is awesome.

In our league we don't penalize missed practices for work - but if you're one of those people who can only make it like once a month because of work.. maybe you need to reconsider your ability to commit.

Hmmm. Having a kid then going straight back to derby is mega tuff. She might have post-natal depression but yeah, more practices are needed
