Learning and Growing
Hanging up on the wall of my office are 3 picture frames and next to them on a shelf is another. Across the room is a certificate and a professional license. There are also books, books, and more books. These framed, fancy pieces of paper signify years of education, education that came about from a couple of different factors. The first being that education was never optional in my family. It was an unspoken expectation that after high school, you do something. In order to do that something, finishing high school was mandatory. It didn’t matter what decision was made after high school, options included a 4-year degree, a 2-year degree, a technical certificate or diploma, or a job. The options were endless as long as it was something.
The second factor is a love for absorbing knowledge that I developed early. When I was growing up my dad called me a “sponge” because I would pull in any information I could. The library was one of my favorite places. I got my first library card when I was around 4 or 5 years old. My grandparents were up visiting for the summer and my grandfather accompanied my dad and I to the library. It is one of my earliest memories. Until I left for college I was reading 2–4 books on average each week. When it was cold or rainy, I’d beg my mom to drive me to the library so I could return books and get new ones. I always read Time, Newsweek, and the newspaper when I could get my hands on them. I recall often watching the 5 p.m. news with Dan Rather… and my dad. I had a subscription to National Geographic for awhile and then a magazine about traveling the world. I asked lots of questions. Lots. Always seeking to learn more.
The third factor, as many of my adolescent clients will tell you, is that I had no idea what I wanted to do when I grew up. And I realize now that that is ok. There is a lot of pressure on our youth to determine their career path before they know who they are. The truth is, I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up. I don’t think my education will ever settle. There’s a bit of unease now. I graduated a year ago with my doctoral degree. As soon as I did, the question became, “Now what?!” I floundered. It took time to adjust. Just about everyone in my life told me to enjoy the break after spending a majority of my adult years as a student. I am, somewhat taking a break in that I am not taking formal classes, but I am still taking on new challenges and learning. Absorbing.
The point of this blog? Well, there are a couple. The first being that there is no rule that says how you have to learn just as there is no rule about what you have to learn. Hands on? Great. A reader? Wonderful. A student? Spectacular. Taking on a new hobby? Fabulous. Seeking out a new career? Go for it! Another point is that you don’t have to know what you want to be when you grow up. What age is grown up? I have no idea. Do you? We continue to develop until the moment we die, so I would argue we continue to grow up until those final heartbeats. There is no longer a career ladder. It’s now considered to be a career web or lattice. Growth isn’t up. It’s horizontal, vertical, and diagonal. We learn from experiences and develop a sense of self while also taking in knowledge about who we are as a person. Things we enjoy and things we do not. We apply these to new experiences, including new careers and new opportunities within our chosen or current career. Another point is that it is ok to challenge yourself. To step outside of that comfortable box and feel like you’re going to vomit, pass out, and hyperventilate. Take a leap. Write a book. Save up for a trip to Bali. Make that phone call. Submit that resume. Network with others. Sign up for that class or training. Take on that new hobby. In the words branded famously by Nike: Just Do It.

Forgetfulness.
There are many reasons that can help explain why someone of any age is forgetful. I wish I could pin point it exactly and say “this is why,” but the truth is it is a little different for each person. There are some common difficulties that can contribute to forgetting things. These include symptoms of ADHD, depression, anxiety, trauma, bereavement… the list goes on.
Working Memory is also known as short-term memory. These are things you hold in memory to complete a task. For example, you are packing up your child for school and need to send them with snowpants, boots, hat, gloves, and a lunch and mid-way through your list, your child reminds you that it is their snack day. They end up going to school with the snack, but you forgot to pack their gloves. Or you’re on the way out the door and you cannot recall where you left your keys. After all, they were right here, right?
ADDitudemag.com says that research demonstrates that young children can only hold one or two items in memory. Working memory continues to develop until around age 15, but not everyone develops this skill at the same pace or has the same working memory capacity. Some people can simply store more information than others. We use working memory daily. It is used to read, write, plan, organize, follow conversations, perform mental math, and to follow multi-step directions. It also helps with focus and attention on a task.
ADDitudemage.com shares a study that was conducted in the United Kingdom, looking at 3,000 elementary school and junior high school students. The researchers found that weak working memory indicated more struggles in school when compared with low cognitive ability. According to this particular study, almost all of the children with weak working memory scored low on reading comprehension and math tests.
What does this look like during adulthood? Missed work deadlines, half-completed projects, losing keys/phone/wallet, forgetting what you want to say in conversations…
So what can you do?
Develop a routine. Always setting your keys, for example, in the same spot makes it easier to find them the next time because it increases predictability. Follow a sequence related to whatever it is you typically lose/forget.
Reduce multi-tasking. Focus on one task at a time. Break it down into smaller chunks. “Chunk” items together, similar to re-calling a phone number. We recall phone numbers in 3 chunks of numbers versus remembering the whole number.
Take breaks. Exercise. Move your body, even if just a little. Drink water. Make sure you’re not hungry. How much sleep have you gotten recently? Take care of your basic needs.
Practice. The more you train your working memory, the stronger it gets. Flashcards, puzzles, making lists of words/numbers and trying to recall them…
Difficulties with working memory can be caused by many different things. Above are some mentioned strategies to try at home, but working with a professional to assist with building skills and to reduce symptoms is recommended if your memory is impacting your daily life. Therapy and/or assessment can assist with getting to the root of the problem and addressing it to increase success.

Area 51 and Aliens
Area 51 is home to the nation’s overhead surveillance program — and most likely nothing else. Starting in the 1950s, it’s where some of the most important spying aircraft in American history was assembled, tested, and ultimately sent out on missions. Experts say it likely remains an area for the Air Force and US spy agencies to develop the next generation of aircraft and other weapons of war.

The Pyramids of Giza
The Great Pyramid of Giza is the oldest and largest of the pyramids in the Giza pyramid complex bordering present-day Giza in Greater Cairo, Egypt. It is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the only one to remain largely intact. The pyramids of Giza and others are thought to have been constructed to house the remains of the deceased pharaohs who ruled over Ancient Egypt. A portion of the pharaoh's spirit called his ka was believed to remain with his corpse.

White Cobra
White snakes can suffer from one of two different genetic disorders - they can be albino or leucistic. With leucistic animals, they lose all pigmentation but it can be spotty, with areas of completely normal color and, if the leucistic patch falls over the eye, it is generally blue. With albinism, there is a complete loss of melanin and the eyes are often red or pink from the blood vessels showing through. Either of these disorders can cause extreme problems for a wild reptile and they do not often live to adulthood. They cannot camouflage to protect themselves or to hunt and they cannot effectively regulate their body temperatures using the sun since they so easily sunburn.

Ethical hacking involves an authorized attempt to gain unauthorized access to a computer system, application, or data. Carrying out an ethical hack involves duplicating strategies and actions of malicious attackers. … Also known as “white hats,” ethical hackers are security experts that perform these assessments. Since Python is so widely used by hackers, there is a host of different attack vectors to take into consideration. Python requires minimal coding skills, making it easy to write a script and exploit a vulnerability.

Why Honesty is the best Policy?
The proverb Honesty is the best policy means that we have to be honest and true in life even in bad situations. Speaking truth helps us in strengthening our character and makes us strong. It means honesty is the most effective tool to protect the relations of blood and love. It is seen that people often tell lies in order to save situations. By doing so they make the situations more worse. Therefore, always speak truth even if the situation is averse to you. It will give you relief and happiness. One must not fear to tell truth rather fear to tell lies. Most of us use lies from time to time to avoid difficult situations and hide our feelings or intentions. However lying always comes with a price whilst the truth is invaluable
