What Once Was II
Part 2 of What Once Was. Edited/Altered and Reposted. Free Palestine always. Gofundme links in my page for those who can help or for those who'd like to share.
In all the years you’d been alive, you’d never imagined leaving Velaris, leaving the comfort that it once provided you with. Even when your father had still been High Lord, the Night Court had felt like the only place where you belonged because it was what you knew and what you had been born into. A throne that once awaited you, at least that was before Rhysand began to consider having a child that would become an heir, a court to rule over which was also before Rhysand had made Feyre into High Lady and a home that had begun to feel so suffocating with the addition of Feyre’s family. Everywhere you turned, an inner circle member awaited you and it was exhausting to not have the comfort of silence and solitude that your mind craved after all the nightmarish events that had piled on top of one another.
While the Night Court was the only place where you could lay on the plush green grass by the river near your lodgings when the skies darkened in the evening, talking to the glistening moon and wishing upon stars knowing so deeply in your bones that they’d listen and carry your hopes and dreams close to them even after death came for you, you knew you had to leave it behind. Because staying would’ve felt like a noose around your neck, that would only grow tighter as the days dragged on. Staying would’ve been condemning yourself to live up to the expectations of being who you once were to please others.
And Mother Above does the old you deserve to rest in peace
Because the old you held a sweetness to her, she was light personified and she had radiated a happiness that was so intoxicating to others but that soft part of you had rotten away as the years came and you were so truly and sincerely okay with that because the old you would’ve never survived everything you had or if she had then she would’ve been a shell of the person she once was by the end of it.
You now hold a darkness in your mind and heart that claws and screams for more, more, more. Maybe it was selfish of you but you needed more than what you had been given because all of it had been taken from you piece by piece. Correction-stolen. A horrible way of viewing it but honestly it was the only way to see it. You wanted to lead armies loyal to you, build cities in the wake of slaughtering tyrants, you wanted to feel free to want revenge, to be cunning, to be angry enough to topple kingdoms and upset enough that you could resort to violence without worrying about how the inner circle would look down on you. You didn’t want the flame that burned inside of you to be extinguished, you wanted it to be fed until it burned you whole.
But most of all, you just wanted to be surrounded by your people, the ones who would love you and defend you until the very end. Something you wouldn’t get in Velaris because what would happen once everyone found out what happened between Azriel and Elain? A scolding from Rhysand? Perhaps a sorrowful glance from Feyre? Nesta as always defending her oh so innocent sister? What of Cassian? He, as always, would follow in Nesta’s lead, never wanting to invoke her wrath.
Loyalties and support were interchangeable in the inner circle when it came to one family member hurting the other. And that was fine, truly, you understood but that’s not what you want anymore. Not with everything you have sacrificed for them; power, happiness, friendships. You deserved people who would always come to your defense, that wouldn’t even have to think about who’s side to take because if the roles were reversed and it was Rhysand or Cassian in your position then there was no doubt about who would be at the receiving end of your wrath. You finally needed to be a priority. You needed to be so deeply and obsessively loved, the same way that you loved and Azriel’s betrayal was the sign you needed to finally realize that you were settling for much less. Because while you felt the devotion and care from your courts’ people, you could no longer feel it within the inner circle.
And if that made you a villain, then so be it.
So while you knew that others would see you leaving Velaris as running away, you decided to do it anyway.
You’ll allow Azriel’s betrayal to heal with time and you knew it would eventually, maybe part of you saw this coming, who knows. But if you’ve been able to push through the pain of losing your sister and your mother, witnessing the slaughter of friends who were family to you and having to survive the unimaginable ache of being torn away from the one person that held half of your soul as kids, that dreamed as hard as you dreamed, loved as passionately as you loved and burned as wildly as you burned then heartbreak from a traitor would eventually feel like nothing but a pinch in your heart.
In the meantime you’ll nurse this power and this insatiable hunger festering inside of you that you’ve been gifted with as it continues to grow until you’re ready to take everything that you deserve and maybe just maybe even more.

If you're having trouble keeping up with what's going on in Palestine because of US news coverage of university protests, here are some articles you can read and a video you can watch:
youtube
While CNN & all the other mainstream media try to paint the university protests as "pro terrorism" (which they're not, they're literally anti-war protests.) Palestinians are being slaughtered by the minute.
Please don't stop speaking about Palestine.

Gaza is not starving. Gaza is being starved by Israel. their condition is so bad that they are forced to consume animal feed just to keep their stomach full. but it isn't providing them any nutrition which is causing malnutrition. this is one of the most well documented genocide of all time and yet there are people who deny it or worse, they don't care. please don't turn away from their suffering and keep talking about Gaza.

This is the same thing over and over again. Palestinians die every day, but it gets a lukewarm headline from mainstream media because death and destruction is inherent to Arabness. Then an aid convoy with white workers is obliterated, and now both the president of the United States and the president of Israel are making statements apologizing for “the poor protection of aid workers.” At one point we were seeing multiple reports a day of paramedics from the Palestine Red Crescent Society dying, but nothing. Crickets. Because they don’t care. And even in these “remorseful statements” there is a strategic reminder that white lives hold more weight than brown lives.

Any soldier who is willing to rape and torture innocents deserves death. Any soldier willing to murder innocent men, women, and children deserves death. They deserve to be punished in the exact way they harmed others before they go, and worse. Fuck the idf

‘I wish for death’ - Twelve-year-old Alma says. She fled bombing and shelling twice before the third place they sheltered was bombed, She was rescued from the rubble only to find out both her parents and all four of her siblings had been killed. She found her 18-month-old brother in an unimaginable state. Her little brother was beheaded from the rubble after the IOF massacred them.

TODAY: Israel’s military again targeted hungry civilians, who were waiting for aid at Al Kuwait roundabout, this morning killing and wounding many of them.
🤬 The casualties of Israel’s pattern of targeting of hungry people while waiting for aid has reached over 400 victims and over 1300 injuries so far.
🚨 Israel’s practices confirm that the policy of starvation is currently a hallmark of Israel’s plan, alongside its perpetration of acts of genocide and ethnic cleansing.
