After Wayne Hussey & Craig Adams left to form @themissionuk, vocalist Andrew Eldritch first started a side project The Sisterhood in response to Hussey & Adams who were about to name their next band that same name. Then Eldritch decided to enlist Patricia Morrison and continue on as the Sisters. Regarding the album title “Floodland”, Eldritch realized that, after writing all the songs, the theme of water came up multiple times throughout. He attributed the recurrence of this theme to the amount of water within Hamburg, where he was writing these songs. #OnThisDay November 13, 1978 @siouxsieandthebanshees released their debut studio album #TheScream which charted at #12 on the @officialcharts. The title of the album was in part inspired by the film The Swimmer starring Burt Lancaster in which main character Neddy Merrill intended to swim home, using open air pools. Climbing over garden fence, from pool to pool, his journey put him into a state of mental and physical exhaustion, and in the end, Goddard said, "all Neddy Merril could think to do was scream, as a scream of exhausted jubilance after a troubled, arduous journey". The idea for the cover was Siouxsie's. Photographer Paul Wakefield met with her and the band to discuss the project. Wakefield later said, "The idea was to shoot disquieting and unnerving images underwater in a swimming pool – you can't scream underwater. I wanted to be able to completely control the lighting, and so an indoor pool was the only option. I scouted quite a few pools, but when I saw this pool in the YMCA in Central London, which was dark blue tiled with light blue lane stripes instead of the normal reverse colors, I knew it was the ideal location. I wanted to give it an eerie underwater night-time feel, and this setting was perfect. We used a number of 1000K and 2000K lights around the pool edge. #OnThisDay November 9, 1979 @IronMaiden released their debut ep #TheSoundhouseTapes which features the very first recordings by the band, it features three songs taken from the demo tape recorded at Spaceward Studios on December 30/31 1978. The three tracks - #Prowler #Invasion and “Iron Maiden" - appear in a rougher form than they would on the first Iron Maiden album and subsequent singles as they were all recorded in one session. Although major retail chains tried to order large quantities of the record, the band only distributed 5,000 copies, available by mail order alone, which eventually sold out in just a few weeks.
