Hijab
Cloth spun over the head under the neck
A pin placed there and here
Hair and neck covered
A shirt that reveals nothing
Pants that cover everything
Within these actions lies freedom
& within these words lie dignity
  She walks the streets modestly
A stare from him, a stare from her
But she walks with her head raised proudly
For she chose
She chose to hide what is hers
She chose to let people hear her voice
She chose to shy away from attention
She chose that in order to be seen, she must be hidden
She chose not to show what her husband should only see
She chose not to bring attention to herself
She chose not to let her body parts speak louder than her words
She chose not to be seen by her image, but by her actions.
If only the world let her do this quietly
If only people would understand that the way she dresses is not a means of oppression
But a means of freedom
A means of expressing oneself in the simplest of ways
But sadly we have not reached that time
For a woman with a scarf on her head is “forced to by her father”
& a woman that wears a veil is “forced to by her extremist husband”
But we have reached the time
When liberation is when a woman wears nothing
& when she walks out of her house so freely she is indeed the definition of free
In my mind’s eye this world has everything twisted, turned, and rotated 360
For isn’t a woman that decides to cover by her own choice the same as a woman that decides to wear nothing at all?
The Hijab isn’t a tool to cover one’s head
Its purpose is modesty
& to me it is the decision that “what I say is more important, then what I have to show”

Firstly, I'd love to say that your poetry is absolutely beautiful. Randomly stumbled upon it by chance and I'm glad I did. The reason was I have a friend that's used "ShadowedDreams" as a moniker before and here I am. I'm curious as to where to you originally found or derived it from, if you wouldn't mind letting me know. Really looking forward to the next piece you put out too.
Thank you so much for this, I know its a late reply very late actually but it stil deserves an answer. I think my next poem will be posted soon. I have moments where words just come to me but the timing is all over the place the last poem i wrote was in like may.. its been awhile since ive been inspired. As for the name 'shadoweddreams' i honestly cant remember why i chose it, but i do think i favored my dreams over reality when i created my tumblr page and that might have been an influence.

Tears
they are formed by the emotions that create you  they each have a story  words unspoken  words unheard  little droplets flowing all alone  full of hatred, full of grief  sometimes theyre all thats left  when youre left alone  to bleed  a mother  lost both her sister & her brother sitting alone as they fall no one is around her  a friend, eyes that never shed for the sake of this world  only allowing god to see him when he is weak yet he is calm, thoughtful a believer  feeling relief but also feeling pain they build up inside her  her body feels weak, she is ready to explode a woman feeling worthless, all alone  pushing people aside, creating a world organized her way  where shell be happy, invincible now.. a little girl stands alone  holding on  to what the worlds left for her to hold  shes a victim of her own mistakes  her vision blurs  her heart aches  shes left alone regretting whats at stake  she feels light headed  stop! somebody help to late.. the memories are tooo strong. the pain hits. her heart is shattered  she is alone  no one hears her deafening screams  her heart beat is loud  her pulse quickens she is alone  nobody to accompany her/him/them but the beautiful  words of their soul  slowly dripping down their face they feel weak.  tears.  thats all thats left. of a story. better left. untold.

Listen
Allow your ears to be filled
with the familiar voice
of your friend.
Allow that voice to touch
the last hair on your head
and the end of your biggest toe.
Allow your heart to feel what that voice feels
Allow your soul to understand
the pain within that voice.
That voice speaks a story.
A story held
within your friends heart.
That voice, is the only thing
your friend has
to hold on to
Please. Just Listen.

Hate.
Hate.
one word.
a strong feeling.
a weak aspect.
empowering.
no escape.

The Conclusion
& the grenades they be falling
Like the words we be talking
They be hurting us left and right
Leaving scars plain in sight
Our hearts wanting to say sorry
But our minds just keep on going
Shooting bullets through our hearts
Not knowing what’s been done
till we feel the knife go through
Then it be too late to start anew
Because we officially feel the damage.
Over and done with

Unnecessary Variables
what we had was undescribable. entertwined we were inseperable.
we knew each other inside & out, memories made, no space left for doubt.
you,
me.
me,
you.
us.
promises that kept us intouch. in sync.
hearts beating as one, no distractions. no variables or equations, just us, no outside duplications.
we were one.
but now were two.
including three, four & five.
we have enough for a group now. space for lies.
placing doubt where there shouldnt be. but in reality we shouldve seen,
if we were as strong as we believed none of this would have been achieved.

Arab or Muslim ?
You are not seen as an 'arab'  You are seen as a muslim  You are not a freedom walker  You are abd allah  You are not alone You are part of a brotherhood  You are not a picture to look at You are a role model to learn from  Stop showing skin that shouldnt be shown  Your mama allows it your papa allows it  But God doesnt.  Stop smoking stuff that shouldnt be consumed  Youve learnt to live with it Youve accepted it  But God hasnt.  You are not seen as an arab  When you chose to make wrong decisions  You are seen as a muslim lead astray
In the end you are who you choose to be  These words may or may not effect you  Cause really you wont listen to anyone except yourself  Which is sad. cause I am you & you are me.

Selfish Me
I want somebody To save me, Hold me, Whisper I miss you terribly. I want somebody to care for me Give me a shoulder to cry on Smile when I want to frown & love me when I'm down
I want to be your remedy. Your reason to want to smile You antidote when your down & your hope when no ones around. I want to be your Best friend, your baby & keep you safe, because I'm your lady I want to be the one That you tell all your problems too & ill whisper back what you aught to do Don’t you wish we could? Be the people that would Stay together, forever, & spend all of life mending all those promises we broke.

Where I'm From
I am from hurt and anger
From mistakes and experience
I am from bayee and imy
From Abir, Saide, and Ali
I am from love lost and love found
I am from a lesson learned and a lesson forgotten
I am from the moments I’m with you
From the happiness and the hurt
I am from forgive and survive
From Muslim and Islam
I am from the hijab upon my head
To the Eman inside my heart
I am from books and knowledge
I am from the moments of patience and the moments I explode
I am from the words on peoples tongues
From the lies they create
I am from the words that broke me
From the words that have healed me
I am from December 16th
From the weeks that followed
I am from the loss of friends and family
From tears and pain
I am from trying to make things right
I am from the thoughts that hurt me every night
From the distance that created problems
I am from the things stolen from me
I am from the past and the future
From whom I was and who I will be
I am from the hope you give me
From the love I have received
I am from the memories that hold me together sane and complete

Empty Promises
I’m a bird ready to take off. Ready to leave everything behind To show some people what their missing & others what they’ve got . I may have a smile on my face But I have a dark secret inside I live for others happiness & leave mine a side. I may want him to come back I sometimes worry and cry You might think you know me But you’re looking at a lie. I miss the old you The one who’d laugh and complain. The guy I thought was different But I guess you’re all the same. I love you & I know that But sometimes it’s hard to explain Like your eyes that sparkle Or your laugh that makes me insane. I remember our memories The times we used to laugh. The broken promises & the empty words you had. You see it’s almost 12 at night & you’ve got me up writing this shit Yea. I know it’s hard to believe But truth is, you’re the loser I fell in love with
