Anna’s Hummingbird by Kip Hutchison Via Flickr: MEASUREMENTS Both Sexes Length: 3.9 in (10 cm) Weight: 0.1-0.2 oz (3-6 g) Wingspan: 4.7 in (12 cm This little Hummer past me several times before I was able to shoot it. Anna’s Hummingbirds are a blur of motion as they hover before flowers looking for nectar and insects. Listen for the male’s scratchy metallic song and look for him perched above head level in trees and shrubs. Anna’s Hummingbirds are common in yards, parks, residential streets, eucalyptus groves, riverside woods, savannahs, and coastal scrub. They readily come to hummingbird feeders and flowering plants, including cultivated species in gardens.

i made my first infographic on a topic ive been very interested in lately: wings! ive seen a lot of anatomical sins relating to wings lately (i am not exempt from this) particuarly involving pterosaurs so i put this together to help artists who may be struggling with drawing wings. enjoy. i am also open to criticism on anatomy or errors

the long-winged harrier is a bird of prey distributed throughout south america. preferring grassland and marshland habitats, this harrier is a skilled hunter of varied prey species. harriers are they only diurnal birds of prey to have a facial disc, a ring of feathers that can be raised to improve hearing. like most birds of prey, females are slightly larger in this species. they are easily identified by their namesake noticeably long wings, along with their long tail. their coloration varies throughout their range, much of the population being primarily grey, but darker brown morphs also appearing.
