to be quite honest I am so picky about fics that I don’t read them very often 😭😭😭 I need to lock in on my wips so that I have something to show for it but I swear to god I understand them in a way not many fics ive read have been able to capture . but to be fair I havent read a ton yet

I personally interpret them as romantic but when interacting w fandom content it’s clear that my interpretation of them is DIFFERENT than some others. like A) they’re butchfemme to me, and B) some people are weird as hell about mako in particular. she’s so complex but soooo many people boil her down to Raleigh’s Love Interest and I hate it!!! yes they’re implied to be romantic but let’s look at the explicit stuff first. before anything, raleigh RESPECTS mako and expects everyone to respect her as well. he would hate about half the fandom im sure of it. before talking abt mako I need people to think hard about whether or not they respect her as an individual character and Not just for what she can do for the male characters

LET RALEIGH PUNCH NEWT IN FINAL BREACH!!! let newt say something about mako that hits raleigh right where it hurts (maybe something about him not being there when she died) and let raleigh need to be held back physically to be kept from giving him a black eye with that bloody nose!!!! let raleigh stew in his anger and his guilt for not being able to save his second dead drift partner!! and let him struggle with having nowhere to put it when he realizes that it wasn’t actually newt’s fault that mako is dead. maybe raleigh and hermann can even bond over their guilt from not being there for their partners when they needed them most

My favorite thing ever is the Kwon fight between Mako and Raleigh and how it is like some freak went with "what if sexual tension wasn't about sex at all".

Motherfucker how did you pull that off.

I wonder how Raleigh felt when he drifted with Mako for the first time.

As he said the hardest thing to get used to was the silence, and suddenly He's seeing someone else's (Mako's) memories and she's seeing all of his, his trauma around his brother's death and Yancy's memories. The guilt and pain Raleigh carried with him for last 5 years being shown to Mako and her own trauma being shown to Raleigh, her fears, how she met Pentecost.

It's not really shown the full depth of how Raleigh feels about having to drift with someone that isn't his brother when Pentecost first asks him to come back and pilot Gipsy, did he feel like he was doing a disservice to his brother or maybe he didn't as now Mako gets to see Yancy through his eyes, someone else gets to see how much he cared and loved his older brother.

His head no longer silent, it's not his brother, it never will be again. But Mako, someone that he gets to share new experiences with and potentially reminisce about Yancy now that someone else knows him. Or maybe it's a way for him to start to move on better.

mako’s death is heartbreaking not just Because she Died, but because her death had nothing to do with Her and everything to do with the male character we had no real reason to care about. her death was all about how it affected Him. she didn’t even get any proper recognition for her part in saving the world. all that went to pentecost solely because it was needed for jake to have Any personality at all. I know that I’m about seven years late to the uprising hater party but im HERE.

Can't get over drift compatibility as a concept it's truly so so so good especially because it's in large part a choice to make yourself vulnerable and to sync with another person

hyperfixation bias is terrible. I hate watching cool movies and unintentionally comparing it to pacific rim. PLEASE LET ME LIKE OTHER THINFS PLEASE I JUST WANT TO ENJOY MORE THAN ONE FILM 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

can we talk about how this is the best scene in the entire movie. the score. the boat. gipsy’s foghorn motif and the up angle we see her at as she makes her way to otachi. the way raleigh and mako let the boat drop and readjust their grip on it. the way they use it like a BAT. the determination and coordination between them. the way they absolutely rock otachi’s shit. the way otachi uses its tail to grab and throw it away. there was no need for this scene to be so fucking cool AND YET!!!!! I love this movie I love guillermo del toro everythjng is beautiful bless my wonderful life
