THE IMPORTANCE OF LIGHTING ON WALKS
When you drive in the city, the lights from the streets and from other cars help you see the road more easily, but when you go out for a walk, the lights you have may not be the most adequate.
If you are a fan of 4x4s and you love taking them out for a walk, good lighting can be your best ally, especially when you travel long routes and uncovered roads or surrounded by nature.
Having adequate lights increases visibility when the weather is bad or when you travel at night, in addition, having good lighting on walks can reduce fatigue while driving since good lights mean less visual effort.
Therefore, if you want to go on an adventure, good lighting on the walks cannot be missing. Of course, the best lights depend on what you want them for and in what conditions you are going to use them.
Lighting on extreme walks with your IPF Explorers These halogen lights are resistant to dust and water, increasing your visibility and allowing you to enjoy different types of terrain without worry. The protection they have makes the useful life of these lights can be extended.
The Redroo Offroad is perfect for improving the lighting on walks with extreme conditions and terrain uncapped also can immerse the water for about two minutes, to a maximum depth of 3 meters.
Your nighttime adventure with LED lighting When you need lighting on walks at night or when weather conditions get complicated, then the best option for you is LED lights, which allow you very good visibility in these situations. In addition to this, the recommended LED lights withstand extreme roads without vehicle vibration is a problem.
If you choose an LED intensity Explorers then you can have the most similar imitation of sunlight. In addition, these lights are made with polycarbonate lenses, being almost indestructible. If you have to submerge these lights in the water, you can do so to a depth of 3 meters.
But if what you love is an adventure, then you will need good lighting on the walks you do. In this case, the Intensity LED Light Bar will illuminate your way for 50,000 hours and on the most difficult roads, allowing the adventure to reach the most remote places, with tranquility and comfort.

10 essential accessories for your 4 × 4
It is almost the weekend and we are getting ready to go out and enjoy our SUVs a bit, so we have to think about the accessories that we will need to bring to enjoy as much as possible with the fewest possible worries. We have to think about what we will need in case we get stuck or run into any other problem. In this article we are going to discuss the things that we believe that every 4 × 4 lover should carry on their getaways.
Table of Contents
Recovery kit
Work light
4 × 4 plates
Some old boards
Puncture repair kit
Air compressor
Car starter
Hand tools
Work gloves
Navigation
RECOVERY KIT
Bringing a recovery system on board can save the day , especially if your ATV does not have a winch that can help you get out of tricky situations. It is important to choose a good recovery system, since it must withstand a lot of stress, so we only recommend properly approved recovery systems. In addition to this, once acquired, it is recommended that it be inspected regularly to ensure that it does not have imperfections or wear caused by use and friction that could cause it to break in the middle of the job.
For the recovery system, you have to take into account the weight of the vehicle with which it is going to be used and look for one that can hold up to 3 or 4 times its weight. These systems are made of nylon and are designed to be slightly elastic to reduce stress at the specific moments when jerks occur. This also gives it a bit more pushing force.
The connecting shackles are another important part of the system as they will withstand a lot of tension, make sure they will be prepared to support the load of the vehicle. The kit must be stored safely and we also recommend that it be done near the driver's seat You never know the situation in which you are going to need it, think that it is possible that some of the doors of the 4 × 4 is blocked, for example preventing access to the trunk, what a bad foot it would be if you had the recovery kit in the trunk and could not access it.
WORK LIGHT
Getting out of a problem on the route can take a long time and it may get dark, or simply the area where you need to access or repair is dark. A robust work light will allow you to see what you are doing while doing a recovery, repair or any other task.
An LED work light with magnets and hooks can be a good idea as it makes it easy to position and use without using your hands, whether you are working outside or under the 4 × 4. We recommend that you look for a work light that has a good autonomy, good lighting (obvious) and that can be charged on the SUV itself as well as at home.
4 × 4 PLATES
At first this may seem unnecessary, but good plates make the complicated, slow and dangerous process of recovering vehicles so fast and easy that we can consider them essential.
Using a winch or towing strap poses a significant danger, a failure could be fatal. Depending on the situation, the safest bet to get out of a situation in which you are stuck, without the need for another vehicle, are 4 × 4 plates, whenever possible of course. These plates can also serve as shovels to dig next to the wheels and help to get out of a compromised situation.
SOME OLD BOARDS
Do you need to repair a puncture? A solid wood board will give you the surface on which to place the jack, making the process much more stable. You can also use a couple of boards to wedge a tire, and prevent the car from rolling.
PUNCTURE REPAIR KIT
Tires are not only the most important component of your 4 × 4, but they are also the ones that most often fail. We should all carry a complete puncture repair kit in our car, regardless of how we use our car.
AIR COMPRESSOR
Being able to easily adjust the pressures is essential to be able to roll efficiently over difficult terrain. For example, the easiest way to add off-road traction is to lower the air pressure at the wheels. You just have to be careful with the rocks and other obstacles; the lower the pressure, the greater the risk of damaging or puncturing the wheels.
Of course, if you reduce the pressure on the wheels, you need to be able to raise it again for normal road driving. A good air compressor can do this relatively quickly, without overheating.
CAR STARTER
You no longer need to depend on another car to help you start if you run out of battery. A simple, affordable, high-capacity lithium-ion battery will serve you well and give you more security. The best thing is that the cigarette lighter in the car is charged and has USB sockets for the phone and other devices. The only thing you have to be careful of is to keep it charged, do not leave it in the trunk for a year without charging since when you are going to use it it will not be available. Everyone should wear one of these.
HAND TOOLS
Nothing fancy is needed, just a full selection of common tools. Even if you don't intend to work on your car while on the road, vibrations and shocks can make things come loose easily. Having a tool kit will allow you to tackle problems as they arise.
WORK GLOVES
All of the work described above is tough on your hands, especially when it has to be done in the wet, in tight spaces, in the dark, and around sharp edges. Fortunately, fixing this is easy.
NAVIGATION
Knowing where you are and where you are going using a conventional map is a real headache when you are off the road. There are often multiple roads going in similar directions and it can be really difficult to know which one you are on or which one you need to get to.
To make it easier, we recommend that you get a good quality off-road navigation application, which will allow you to track your progress in real time and allow you to easily know which way to go.

Where to put the winch on an SUV (sport utility vehicles)
Rear with forward rollers The winch is, without a doubt, the most useful accessory of all that we can use to guarantee the mobility of our SUV in extreme conditions, but in which position is it most effective?
Between the price of the winch, the installation and the homologation, the necessary investment can exceed 1,500 euros ... and the result is not always guaranteed, so you must carefully choose the winch model that best suits your needs and the of your SUV.
To do this, you must calculate a pulling power of at least one and a half times the maximum permissible technical mass (MTMA) that appears on your vehicle's file. Do not forget that the rated pulling capacity of a winch refers to the first turn of the drum, that is, with the cable practically unwound.
As the cable forms several layers on the drum (up to four), the pulling capacity decreases considerably. A type 9000 winch (4,082 kg in the first turn of the drum) is reduced to 3,180 kg, with four layers of cable wound on the drum.
Once you have chosen the ideal model, the question is where to install it. Some will say in front, others, behind and a good number of users will favor the mobile installation.
At the moment of truth, its installation will depend fundamentally on the use to which you put your vehicle; Whether in competition, small routes or large crossings, you will find yourself facing different extreme situations that you must address with appropriate and specific solutions for each of them.
Analyzing the possibilities and choosing the most appropriate is the best guarantee to be able to successfully overcome all eventualities. Now, we have no choice but to recognize that three is better than one.
Portable installation
There will always be someone who thinks that why give up having a winch in front and another behind. Simply perform a portable installation. They are not lacking in reason, but it must be recognized that it is a valid option in specific situations for operational reasons and we will not necessarily save the bureaucratic part of the installation, since it is likely that we will have to legalize the supports for the winch.
Stuck in the middle of a quagmire, having to manipulate the thirty-odd kilos of a winch is not an easy task. It is also a good option for the most travelers, who use the services of the winch on very few occasions and, however, the weight placed in front of the vehicle conditions the work of the front suspension.
A portable winch installation requires a bracket or cradle with a shank and pin.
The installation for the portable winch requires female type brackets, where to insert the stem of the bracket or winch cradle.
In competition
In the world of extreme competition, all winches are few and the advantages of a double installation - front and rear - add a third one that allows to hold the vehicle in case of extreme lateral inclination or to recover an overturned vehicle. This situation can be solved by a correct position of the rear winch and guide points on the roll bar.
n It is also common in extreme tests to find vehicles with two winches, one front, one rear and a third of a mobile type to support the momentary action of the previous ones, or to use their possibilities as a side pull.
Rear with forward rollers
There are always those who go further and opt for a single high-power winch, preferably hydraulic, located at the rear and which, through a system of rollers and guides for the tow cable, allows its use in different pulling positions, including the contrary to the one corresponding to its installation. Another variable of the same system is the one used by the Foers Ibex -see All Terrain No. 80-, with a winch located in the center of the vehicle and a system of rollers that allows the cable to be thrown backwards or forwards.
Power supply
In heavy use, the problem can be traced to the power supply. Under these working conditions we have no choice but to increase the energy storage capacity, replacing the battery with another with more amp / hour and even doubling it, in which case both must be the same and install them in parallel.
A good solution for intensive use, but outside the competition, is to install two batteries with different consumption circuits and alternate charging, where we will always give preference to the battery, which provides service to vehicle management, over the one that feeds auxiliary services.
Ahead or behind?
To go through difficult terrain, with mud, snow or waterways, the most logical option is the front of the vehicle.
To be used as a support vehicle, to other off-road vehicles, to carry out security tasks in events or to travel alone, where the possibility of returning through the known section must always prevail, the subsequent installation is the most appropriate.

How to choose a winch
There are perfect tools for moving heavy loads. A winch pulls them horizontally and a hoist lifts them vertically. You don't have to be the incredible Hulk. A cable is wound or unwound on a drum and allows loads to be raised or lowered. There are portable, fixed, manual, electric or hydraulic.
Important features
Mechanical
Electric
Hydraulic
Capacity and load
Speed
Cable
Winch, hoist, elevator ... Let's clarify concepts
A winch is a machine that is used to lift and move loads from one point to another by towing them. This machine consists of a winch that turns and wraps around a cable from which the load is held. Later we will see how the different operating systems give them the ability to handle more or less heavy loads and not only tow them, but also raise them.
A hoist is a set of pulleys with a fixed group and a mobile group with an endless chain or cable used to lift heavy loads.
When choosing elements to move loads, it is relatively easy to get confused because it can also appear named as elevators . These consist of a motor driven by a control that turns the winch where the cable that pulls up the load is wound.
Maximum load capacity of a winch
Winch capacity is the maximum load it can pull. The capacity or feed force is expressed in kilos and the nominal pulling force is specified for the first layer of rope on the winch drum, which corresponds to the amount of force it needs to produce to move an object . The more turns of cable that are wrapped around the drum, the lower the resistance of the winch. It is calculated that the loss of force for each cable turn is 13%.
ATTENTION: This capacity is usually given for rolling loads with a perfectly horizontal cable. Therefore, it is necessary to choose a greater capacity than the loads to be moved , taking into account both the loss of power during winding and the non-horizontality of the cable and the possible friction of the load . It is advisable to calculate a capacity 50% higher than the weight to be towed. If you want to use the lifting load winch -the hoist-, check well that the capacity is not expressed in rolling load.
Traction speed ... and what is that?
For a certain power, the traction speed and the loading speed must be taken into account. A heavy load will be towed slowly . Therefore, it is not surprising that the towing speed of a load is low with a very fast winch . Generally, a loaded winch works at 1.5 meters per minute . To be faster than average you will need to have a more powerful motor, which will instantly translate into higher power consumption. Attention if you are using it with the car battery!
Types of winches
There are different types of winches : manual or driven by an external power source:
Manual winches
They are the simplest. They have a modest pulling capacity (up to two tons the largest) and the only source of energy they receive is your own arms. Perfect for construction work and for lifting small loads . Highly recommended for developing forearms!
Electric winches
They can be connected to a car or truck battery (12V or 24V), or to the electrical network (220V). They have a higher capacity than mechanical winches and are affordable. The problem is that they overheat while working. The energy dissipated in the form of heat is proportional to the square of the intensity consumed (expressed in amperes). In other words, this means that a winch without a thermal fuse (also called "overload protection") runs the risk of getting burned if towing too heavy a load. To prevent this risk, it is best to choose a winch with a much higher capacity than you need. Also, an electric winchit can draw more than 400 amps at 12V (400 A). If the winch is connected to a vehicle, it is essential that the battery is in good condition, fully charge it and leave the vehicle running during and after use. You also have to allow time for it to cool down, so the winch can only be used intermittently. Attempting to lift or pull a load without pausing it runs the risk of damaging it.
Mechanical winches
They are equipped with a heat engine (gasoline). They are heavier and more expensive than electric ones although they allow continuous work . To connect them to a vehicle they need a specific installation. They cannot be easily transferred from one vehicle to another.
Hydraulic winches
They are connected to a hydraulic circuit that drives the drum. They offer the same robustness and performance as the mechanical ones. Its installation on a vehicle requires the intervention of a specialist. It is essential that the hydraulic circuit to which it will be connected has sufficient flow and pressure to operate it. In general, we can find winches that work with a circuit of 120 to 160 bars for a flow of between 45 and 60 liters per minute. These hydraulic winches are reliable and offer better performance (load, speed) than mechanical and electrical ones, although they are heavier and more expensive.
