the widowmaker. her kills are not unheard of, though the woman behind it remains a mystery. to overwatch however, that's a different story entirely. she has no doubt that he's had to learn of talon's activities, and the casualties that follow them. widow's more or less in a compromised position--with her escape being late, leaving her to wait in the darkness. her golden eyes glow from the dark of night; the unbroken gaze is enough to drive anyone away. widow knows she could get rid of him right then, but chances are, he isn't alone. why he hasn't alerted the others about her is a mystery--or perhaps he truly is alone. it's a theory she doesn't want to test. " you have, " it's meant to come out as a question, but ends up becoming a statement. he may know her from mondatta's assassination--her finest kill, allegedly, but she feels no pride coming from that night. maybe he's seen her before, somewhere out in the world without her noticing. nothing goes without widow detecting it, but many things still surprise her.

" hm, " sombra rarely ever seemingly took talon's as seriously as most of them. for her, the place is practically a sandbox. with her hacking skills, getting in and out of places is a walk in the park. sombra could be an act entirely, but she lacks the curiosity to think about it for longer than a second. " focus, " widow briefly scolds her, reminding her about the task at hand. though her voice is never far from how cold it normally is, there's a small hint of irritation. so smug, so annoying. it'd be such a shame if something happened to her, she thinks, a real pity.
#widow: i dont feel anything#widow when she interacts w sombra: i feel annoyance#also i read that 'hey' in her voice bc i play sombra Way too much KJHKHJGGFH#ANSW.#IN.#encordia

" don't flatter yourself, " there's a large difference between mirage and elliott. whether or not he tries to hide it, he's different outside of the games. elliott is human and undeniably so--under the mask of mirage, he's soft. it's all about ego with mirage, with himself first and everyone else second. elliott's become attached to the act, no matter how much it makes her irritated in the middle of a team fight. " you are a means to an end, " she'd once denied her emotions--once widow would've recognized them as errors and flaws, but now they are something different. perhaps they are fatal. she considers it lucky that both of them are on the same squad. she turns to face him, then has her fingers holding his chin up. there's a ghost of a playful smile on her lips and a faint, impish glint in her eyes. this is the closest she will ever get to flirting--and she hopes it's not too embarrassing of an attempt. the words are more of an effort to bruise the ego that is mirage--so vain he'll nearly get their squad killed, on occasion. " and nothing more. "
#widow is awkward as hell w flirting . and she always comes off as at least a little scary#shes trying though! she is trying#i feel cringe for posting this but idc ! the widow/mirage brain rot is real#ANSW.#IN.#vanishout

talon is practically a prison. widow is forever chained to it, a servant to command death. she finds no pleasure in kills; she feels nothing from them. perhaps that's the point--the kills bring no pleasure so she's no reason to run on a rampage; the life she leads is fulfilling enough for widowmaker so that she's no reason to disobey. the people there have reasons to be at talon, but widow doesn't. there's no getting out. his pleas are, at first, nothing more than pure desperation. he practically begs, and she has the stomach to turn away for a moment. her attachment to mirage had been undetected; as long as neither got caught, there was no danger. but now he was suggesting something lethal. talon would never let their perfect assassin leave, they'd even built her. if they found out about him, about the conversation they're having right now... mirage would be a dead man. and if she theorized correctly, widow would be the one to pull the trigger. " no, " she knows the risks, she knows the costs. it is not worth it. widow's voice is clear and concise--there's no arguing to be had. stern as she may be, there's fear in her voice. talon has taken everything away from her: her freedom, the one she loved, her life. she will not let them take him. " they will know i'm gone, and if they know you're a part of it--you will become a target. " she's told him of gérard. she's told him how it haunts her dearly and not a single night goes by where she doesn't think about it. widow will not have another man to mourn, she will not waste any more time grieving over another. but for a moment, she wants to say 'yes'. she wants to say that she will go with him and leave talon and not come back for all the terrible things it's done to her, but she cannot risk it. she won't risk his life for a wish. she can't.

it is strange, how they got here. he was once an annoyance--another voice to tune out, though with no real harmful intent in mind. the blaring sounds of gunfire become numbed down until its nothing more than white noise; nothing will distract her from the perfect shot. though somehow, he's broken through the barrier--he's broken through her programming. now she is anything but the perfect, ruthless killer she was built to be. widow is awkward and fits nowhere, but he does not try to make her fit anywhere. neither of them really fit anywhere. elliott seems to fit under the spotlight, with everyone watching him. but that's mirage--it's shallow and skin-deep. the personas are broken by the other's gaze, leaving them both vulnerable and weak. they sit in the quiet of the after-hours. elliott's bar closed an hour or two ago, with both of them being the only souls there. compared to how cramped and abrasive the dorms for the games tended to be--even at the most silent hour, his bar was a forgiving retreat when no one else was around. widow could once stand the silence, she could live in it. but now things lie on her tongue, waiting to be said with no real plan in mind, which makes it harder to stay quiet. he speaks for her, as a wave of vague relief washes across her skin like the ocean on the sand. she expects small remarks, laced with humor in the typical way she's expected it. elliott's caught her off-guard. she looks at him, directly in the eye. he feels things when he's with her. as it fully registers in widow's mind, she turns her eyes away, looking at the counter. " you do? " it's more of a rhetorical question, but something about her voice says otherwise. she knows he doesn't feel hatred for her, no matter how much she wishes it to be so. widow is surprised, admittedly, though she knows she's done little to express it. a moment of silence follows. widow's caught between saying something, anything and saying nothing at all. this is no doubt in her mind any longer that she feels things when he's around, as she's found no reason to continue to deny it. she knows what it is, and she knows how lethal saying it will be. it's deadlier than any bullet and it hits quicker than anything could. she sees the millions of ways this could go, some being good and others dreadful. widow doesn't realize that it's fear she feels, other than the unnamed emotion that lingers on her tongue. she always feels things when she's with him. " i love you, " she averts her eyes, the fairly dim lights surrounding them become blinding. her voice is remarkably soft; even when the lightest whisper carries an echo inside the empty building, the statement is for him solely. widow has shared everything with him--no gruesome detail left unsaid. he has stayed. when she feared he would leave and abandon her--just when she started to feel things again--he remained. he is kind beyond his own good and she can never do anything to top what he's done for her. she's undeserving of it, almost. widow expects nothing from him. she does not expect for him to return the feelings or to even say it back, but perhaps she wishes it. the warmth that comes from love is unparalleled, and for a while it only existed in foggy memory. she wishes it, secretly, but her remark is anything but covert.
