don’t get me wrong, i love the witches in the ToG story, but i literally CANNOT wrap my head around how they’d produce offspring with diluted Ironteeth blood. like, elide is very distantly part ironteeth, which would be great and whatever, except that all ironteeth witches are the product of the female witch and the male random dude. and every child of those unions is a female witchling. so how could a bloodline become lost and diluted? they’re all half-witch, half-human or whatever, but despite that human blood, they’re all female ironteeth witchlings? they couldn’t produce non-witch offspring, as far as QoS says. like, are those bloodlines just thousands of years back to way way before the ironteeth/crochan war that we hear about? like i literally cannot understand where SJM was going with this

rape tw, sexual assault tw. this is venting and you should not read it if you’re triggered by rape or sexual assault mentions.
i have multiple literary references that i either have tattooed on me or want tattooed on me. i’m really-reading acosf right now because i read a lot of it while inebriated and i want to take all of it in. one thing that occurred to me is nesta, emerie, and the priestesses training, and collectively thinking “never again”. never again would they allow themselves to be helpless and hurt.
it’s a beautiful sentiment, but, as a rape survivor? it could be harmful. i wasn’t raped because i was overpowered. i was raped because i trusted someone who turned out to be a rapist. sometimes, even if you’re physically strong enough to stop it, something else will stand in the way.
i dont dislike the valkyries’ journeys. i love the valkyries. i think their friendship is actually perfect. i love the journeys they went through together and separately. the 3 of them are probably my favorite characters in the ACOTAR universe and i actually want to start self defense lessons because of what i think that journey will help me with, personally.
however, the implication that learning “self defense” will keep you from being raped or sexually assaulted ever again (i won’t censor the words because i don’t want to trigger people who have them filtered and blocked) isn’t always true. yes, it’s always good to know how to defend oneself, but as much as i like the idea of “never again” and as much as it’s something i relate to enough that i would even momentarily consider getting it tattooed, it leaves room for that kind of sentiment to be broken and turned against you.
does that make sense??

fuck, i’m reading ACOSF and i think i’m too similar to Nesta to read this book peacefully. when cass decides to start training nesta at the house of wind because she would rather die than appear foolish and make herself vulnerable?? unfortunately, same.
