One of the characters that was in Bram Stoker's drafts but did not make it to the final is the painter Francis Aytow. Like Mina, he was in Whitby, witnessing the Demeter coming through a great storm. He immortalized the moment by painting it. Later, he saw Dracula (in his human form) and decided to paint him. However, it is impossible to paint a vampire. Every attempt the painter made, Dracula always ended up looking like someone else. You cannot draw a portrait of Dracula that resembles him. And this drove the painter into madness.

The notes also state that it is also impossible to take a photo of Dracula; he always comes out either as a skeleton or a blackened corpse.
