how it feels to have a comfort character 🫂
Tumblr media
ventish thing under the cut
so, i’ll admit. life hasn’t been great. it’s been okay, but there’s been a lot going on crunched down in the last few months and i’m exhausted.
mainly, i had to leave my friends and family behind. the stress of it all has drained me a lot. honestly, some nights i think about disappearing. i feel like a burden.
it may sound really stupid, but Toy Story has helped me keep it together. specifically Mr. Potato Head.
idk what it is (maybe because he’s my blorbo) but he comforts me in a way. i can’t exactly put it into words, but if you have a comfort character maybe it’ll make more sense. i love this asshole with all my heart 🫶
(but i love my pookie more ❤️)
anyway. i’m tired and going to bed. hope everyone is doing well 🫶

another scenario fic for my moot 🤭
it’s very long and angsty so be prepared
@badgestxr tehe
Cassidy approached that familiar house tentatively. She paused to take a good look at it. It had been weeks since she initially ran away. She thought about how everyone would feel about her return. She missed them, but seeing them again somewhat scared her. What if she upset them? Nevermind, of course she upset them. With a sigh, she continued towards the house, being cautious about any human that might see her.
She made her way around the house and to the backyard, where she slowly crawled up the drain pipe, almost slipping at some point. When she reached the window, she slightly glanced inside before scrambling onto the windowsill. Praying the window was unlocked, she gently pulled it up. She released a small sigh of relief as it opened. That relief was met with another wave of anxiety that gnawed at her gut the whole way here. She slipped inside and shut the window, now on Bonnie’s table.
Cassidy looked around the room. It hadn’t changed a bit. The familiar scent of art supplies and air freshener filled her senses. She was home. She was finally home. And then she heard it.
“Cassidy?” A familiar female voice asked, though it was tinted with disbelief. She turned to see Jessie, who was sitting with Bullseye and Buzz. Cassidy couldn’t help but smile. Jessie’s disbelief was quickly wiped away with and excited grin as she stood up. “You’re back! Oh, you’re back, you’re back!” she exclaimed, launching herself into a hug with the smaller fox plush. Buzz and Bullseye quickly joined them, equally enthusiastic looks on their faces. The embrace felt warm. Warmer than Cassidy had felt in a long time.
“What’s happening?” another familiar voice called from the floor. Cassidy could tell right away, it was Rex. She pulled away to get a look at him, giggling a bit at the way he perked up when he saw her. “Is it really her?” he asked loudly, grabbing the attention of the other toys, who were equally as gobsmacked when they turned their heads up to her. Cassidy nodded at Rex. It really was her. Rex made his way up to the table, falling over once. She found it endearing and a little silly how much of a mess he was, attempting to get up onto the table. He joined in the hug as well. Jessie and the others pulled away, only for Cassidy to see more toys behind them. She beamed with joy when she saw everyone.
The LGMs and peas embraced her tightly right away. She was like their sister. When she pulled away, Slinky and Hamm approached her, both of them grinning. “Good to have ya back,” Slinky said, resting his chin on her shoulder to let her hug him. “How’re ya feeling?” Hamm inquired, stepping slightly closer.
“Better, now.” Cassidy admitted. And it was true. Slinky backed up from the embrace, and Cassidy looked up again. There stood the Potato Heads. Mrs. Potato Head was the first to give her a hug. It was one of those tight, protective motherly hugs that said a million things without saying anything. “We’re so happy you’re alright.” Mrs. Potato Head cooed before pulling back and resting her hands on Cassidy’s shoulders. Cassidy’s smile started to hurt her face, but she couldn’t help it. She sniffled a bit, her eyes burning with the threat of tears that would never come. She looked past the missus to see Mr. Potato Head standing there, a relieved look on his face. She launched herself at him, embracing him tightly. After a few moments, he relaxed and hugged her back.
“Good to see you, kid,” he finally said. Cassidy closed her eyes. It took every fiber of her being to not break down and cry right there, to not apologize over and over again. She shook slightly, stifling her crying to a minimum. Resisting was futile. Dolly and Trixie glanced at each other, relief written all over each other’s features. The tension from the past few weeks had dissipated. Everyone knew Cassidy was finally back.
After the fox plush calmed down, she let out a relaxed sigh. She pulled away and opened her eyes again slowly, only to stiffen up again. Woody stood behind Mr. Potato Head. Seeing the look on her face, Woody scratched the back of his head akwardly. At first Cassidy was surprised, then confused. Her confusion quickly grew into rage. She narrowed her eyes, her brows furrowing. Whatever he had to say. it better be good, because she knew she would bite her tongue until she had the chance to tell him off. Unfortunately, he raised her that way.
“Cass… you’re—”
“Don’t call me that.” She muttered, an edge to her voice that no one was familiar with from her.
“Look,” Woody said shamefully. “I’m sorry. I didn’t—”
“Oh, you’re sorry?” Cassidy repeated, her voice rising. “Look, everyone! He’s sorry! He’s SOOO sorry!”
“Cassidy…”
“No, shut UP! SHUT UP! I HATE YOU!” she screamed, shaking violently every time a word left her mouth. “YOU LIED TO ME! YOU ABANDONED ME! YOU’RE NOT SORRY! YOU’RE NOT SORRY! You don’t care! You don’t love me, you don’t love any of us. You love Bo Peep.” There was a snarky, aggressive sarcasm to her voice when she said Bo’s name.
Potato Head felt guilt brewing inside him. This couldn’t be happening. She couldn’t turn out like him. He couldn’t stand the thought. He turned to look at Woody, who glanced at him back with an unrecognizable expression.
Woody glanced at Potato Head, who looked equally as freaked out, before his eyes fixated back at a seething Cassidy. He put his hands up to try and calm her down. “Please, just—”
“No,” she shot back, her voice trembling. “You lied to me once and you’ll do it again.”
“You don’t understand, I—“
“Oh, I understand,” Cassidy retorted, “I understand we were never enough for you!”
“Please… Cass, let me explain…”
“I TOLD YOU NOT TO CALL ME THAT!”
“PLEASE!”
“NO!!! YOU LEFT BECAUSE YOU DON’T CARE! YOU’RE A LIAR! YOU DON’T LOVE US! YOU DON’T LOVE ME!”
Just then, Cassidy began sobbing. She wasn’t just sad. She was betrayed. She didn’t want to listen to him. She didn’t want to see him. She just wanted to forget he ever existed. Everyone in the room was tense, watching the scene unfold. The peas were shaking. They weren’t used to so much screaming, especially when it came from their sister. The LGMs’ antennas drooped, their shoulders hunched slightly. It was as though they were trying to make themselves smaller.
Suddenly, Cassidy felt someone touch her back. Their hand was smooth and plastic. She knew who it was by their voice. “Come on, dear,” Mrs. Potato Head soothed, rubbing her back gently. “Let’s get you calmed down, okay?” And with that, she led Cassidy off the table and took her somewhere more private to let it out. Everyone looked back up at Woody as they left. All Woody could do was stare back. No one looked angry at him, yet, no one looked pleased either. Obviously they didn’t. Slowly, everyone began getting off the table, with the last being Buzz, who glanced at him one more time before getting off. Everyone left him there. All but one. Woody turned around again to see Mr. Potato Head standing there. They just glared at each other for a few moments.
Woody half expected Potato Head to make a snide remark or insult him, or at least give him a dirty look. But he didn’t. He just looked defeated.
Potato Head braced for Woody to go off on him. They both knew who she behaved like, after all. He just couldn’t believe he rubbed off on her. Potato Head remembered how Woody raised her. With patience and understanding. That wasn’t patience or understanding. That was him all over again. A part of him he wished to forget. How could this happen?
Potato Head went to the edge of the table and sat down in silence. Woody watched him for a few moments before sitting down next to him. The silence was deafening. The sheriff looked around, then breathed in like he was about to say something. The spud tensed, already mentally preparing himself for whatever Woody might throw at him. But there was nothing. Woody couldn’t get anything out. He didn’t know what to say. His head spun with questions he couldn’t rationalize. He scratched the back of his head again and sighed. He messed up big time.
He casted a sidelong glance at Potato Head, who was side eyeing him. To Woody’s surprise, it wasn’t suspiciously. Just… tiredly? Like he was emotionally exhausted.
Woody pulled his knees to his chest. The tension was so thick it could be cut with a knife. They sat there in silence until it was unbearable.
“Do you think she’ll ever forgive me..?” Woody asked, his voice sounding more pathetic than he intended.
The smaller toy turned to look at him and thought for a few moments. “I don’t know…” he mumbled. “Maybe. Just give it some time. Kids don’t recover from that kinda stuff that quickly.”
“But your kids forgave you right away.” Woody said. He hesitated slightly before continuing. He decided to continue. His brain was too fried to care, consequences be damned. “I mean, you neglected them for years.” Almost instantly, he wished he had thought about it a little deeper. Seeing the way Potato Head flinched every time it was brought up kind of broke him.
Potato Head sighed, trying to keep it together. Why did everyone bring it up all the time? He got it. He knew what he did and he knew he was a coward for it. But, Woody was wrong about one thing.
“They didn’t,” He admitted, quietly. He figured if Woody wanted advice on what to do when you commit the greatest fuck-up in parental history, he would explain it the best he could.
“Wait, what..?” Woody asked in disbelief. “But I thought—”
“I know.” Potato Head interrupted. “But it’s not that simple.” His gaze drifted ahead as he remembered that day. The day he came out of his shell and accepted the LGMs as his boys.
“Oh, darling, you were so brave,” His wife said affectionately, leaning close to him. He didn’t feel brave. He was terrified. But seeing her safe, seeing her relax in his arms, he couldn’t help but smile softly.
Unexpectedly, he heard soft squeaking coming from behind him, knowing who it was sent a wave of relief through him. He turned to them, genuinely smiling at them for the first time. Those little aliens were right there. And they were okay.
“You saved our lives,” Mrs. Potato Head said, somewhat awestruck.
“And we, are eternally grateful.” He finished, bowing at them slightly. He straightened up and watched them glance at each other. He couldn’t believe he was handed this amazing thing and almost lost it. A feeling of bittersweet pride overwhelmed him.
“My boys!” he said fondly, scooping them up and holding them tight. After a few moments, he set them down again, a warm smile still lingering on his features. They looked back up at him with elation in their eyes, but there was also something else. Skepticism.
“Sure, they were excited that I came around, but…” he bit his lip before continuing. “It took… a long time before they adjusted to it. Before they fully forgave me.”
Woody pondered for a few moments.
“Point is, just give her time.” He concluded, rather abruptly. “I don’t know if she’ll forgive you. And she doesn’t have to. But try. Put in the effort. Maybe she’ll come around one day.”
Woody just hoped that one day would come.
What was he going to do?
