We lived on a farm in Brownsville, Texas about 8 miles out of town and my mother and father had both grown up on a farm, so we had cows, chickens, hogs. So, every morning before going to school I had to go out and milk 2 cows, well nothing teaches you responsibility more than milking a cow because there is no such thing as skipping a day,

In college my brother and I did anything we needed to do to make a living. When my father dropped us off in 1946 at Trailer Village on the University of Houston Campus, by the way they were army surplus house trailers, it was right after World War II and there were no bathrooms, the bathroom was a block and half away, but any way but I will never forget what he said when he dropped us off. He said boys here is $50.00 each and whenever you boys need anything, whatever you need just call me up on the phone call me up on the phone when you have something that you need, and I will explain how you can get by without it. He believed in self-reliance, so he purposely meant to drop us in Houston, Texas and let us scuttle for ourselves which we did

I got involved with health matters because of R.E. Bob Smith, R E. Bob Smith was an oil man, R.E. Smith everybody called him Bob and he was a health nut, if that’s the right word and he had been a boxer as a young man.  So he and I started by doing what we call road work, today it would be call jogging but nobody ran in those days, in the early 60’s.  So, we would run through River Oaks near his house and that started our exercise program.  But then in the early 60’s the first health club in Houston opened, it was named the President’s Health Club and theoretically you had to be a President of your company to join the health club.  Register on my blog at www.wwilsonsr.com for weekly updates! I had met JFK, John F. Kennedy in 1960, he came to my hotel room right after he was nominated for President and that makes me sound more important than I was.  It’s a long story but anyway, he came by my hotel room where I was having a reception, it’s was a suite, a reception for some New Mexico Congressmen and Senators and so at the last minute we called him and asked him to stop by and he did, he was running for elections at the time.  Subscribe to my blog at www.wwilsonsr.com.
