How to Wrap Polos

Polos are for protecting your horse's legs from interference, give support to tendons, and come in fun colors and prints. Use them for dressage, arena work, and transporting your horse. Polos do not give much support.

Procedure

Place the end of the polo wrap on the inside of the horse's leg about half way down the cannon bone. 

Wrap the leg from front to back overlapping the bandage by about 1/3 with each wrap. You should wrap counter clockwise on the left legs, and clockwise on the right. Imagine your horse is swimming by paddling. Wrap in that direction. Pressure should be taut; not too tight and not too loose. Always tighten the wrap across the cannon bone, never along the tendons. 

Make one pass underneath the fetlock joint. 

Head back up the leg, applying firm, even pressure with the polo. 

Secure the polo with the velcro tab at the top of the wrap. 

Warnings

Remember that if this is not done correctly it can damage your horse's leg! So if in doubt have an experienced person check your wraps. ‌ 

When not to use polo wraps: Turnout, jumping solid obstacles (use firmer boots), and in most show classes they are not allowed. ‌ 

When polos get wet, they slip easily. ‌ Don't ever use polos if there is a chance that your horse will be walking through mud or water. 

The polos will get wet and slip, perhaps tripping your horse, or matter can get underneath the polo, irritating the horse's leg and possibly causing serious injury.

Horse Cookie Treats

Making a horse's cookie treat may seem to be hard, but its a very simple recipe that is easy to make. These cookie treats make great rewards for you horse or just as a little something your horse will love.

Mix oats, grain and bran together in a bucket. 

Drizzle in molasses while mixing with your hands until combined. 

Cut into fun shapes such as horse or horseshoe shapes and place them on a cookie sheet lined with baking paper. 

Bake at 375ºF / 190ºC for 8 minutes. Have fun baking these wonderful treats your horse will love!
