VOLLEY’S MENTION IN BUPA’S GUIDE TO THE PERFECT SHOE FOR TRAVELLING
Volley’s new look has been catapulted into the limelight by Bupa Travel Insurance, which has listed us as one of the best brands for browsing and raddest shoes to wear abroad! The article hand-selected the top ten shoe designers and brands, before interviewing them to find out their nominated styles for different locations around the world.
Volley's forward-thinking flats have long been a perennial favourite amongst the surfer and skater communities of Australia. Originating as a simple white canvas sneaker often seen gracing the feet of tennis and squash players, our brand has taken a new direction, evolving into a designer shoe emporium, recently making headlines as one of the top ten shoe brands and designers for Aussies about to jet set around the globe.
Our shoes are easy to wear and pack neatly into your suitcase. Our new luxe twist on chilled-out designs will allow us to hit more of a premium space in the market, and we’re excited to take you along for the ride. With a recent addition of upscale suedes and leathers in our latest flat footwear collection, Volleys are now a leading choice for a stylish Roman getaway, as nominated in the recent article, ‘Style Guide: The Perfect Designer Shoes for Travelling’.
‘As one of the bulkiest items in your luggage some tough decisions are in order.’ Bupa Travel Insurance asks, ‘Are three pairs of sneakers too many?’Not when they’re a selection from our latest concrete jungle collection. With different colours and textures, these everyday sneakers are playful reworks of the classic volley, making them the perfect addition to any sightseeing jaunt. We’d suggest you pack as many as possible, but when challenged to nominate one specific shoe, we simply had to recommend the high-leap Hairy Suedes – which we recommend you wear to Rome!
‘The simple, fuzzy hi-tops were made for stomping around the ancient cobblestone streets; they’re the type of shoe you can venture off the beaten path and get lost in,’ we told Bupa. Our carefree spirit, which is also synonymous with the Australian way of life, lends itself to wanderlust. Getting lost in Europe, is the best way to hone into your surroundings, architecture, and the way a city or town feels, which in turn provides you with the best ideas.
Even though Volley will always reference its (awesome) history, for the first time in decades the brand is releasing some exciting new styles and designs this August for the SS/16 collection. In addition to the launch, we have some exciting upcoming collaborations with edgy apparel brands, musicians, and artists. Stay tuned for the future of Volley!

“Being amongst trees and forests is my favorite thing to do.”
We chat to enchanting photographers Aleksandar Jason and Chantelle Elise - fresh new faces for our Volley Concrete Jungle Campaign.
V: Collectively between the two of you, you have a following of 183,800 people on Instagram, are you where you envisioned you would be back at the start of your career? How long have you been photographers for?
A: Instagram has opened new doors for my career. Clients have hired me through the app as well as promoted my work across the world. That’s an honor and we both always look to give back. At the start I never knew where I was heading, I just wanted to have fun with something new such as photography. Now, I wish to personally find a way that my followers can get something out of clicking on my page.
C: With photography being more of a passion and love of mine, I never envisioned my little hobby to have been seen by so many eyes! I was lucky enough to get my first proper camera for my 17th birthday, which is when I pushed myself to create magic with a lens. V: When did you first take interest in photography and what/when was the turning point in your success? C: Ever since I was young I would take ownership of the family digital camera, snapping away at any sight I could see – as I got a little older I discovered Photoshop, and that is when I started experimenting with edits. I had a love for surrealism then and loved creating quirky, distorted photos. I received a fair bit of acknowledgment at high school, but I think my biggest turning point was through Instagram. I have been able to share my images and gain inspiration through the amazing app!
V: If you think back, what is the first ever photo you remember taking?
A: I don’t really remember my first photo - but I do remember my first digital camera that I paid for with my own hard earned cash from the two jobs I did after studies. I always say - sometimes it’s the process of something that is more important than the final product. If it weren’t for the night shifts and late hours, I would have never purchased a camera, a Speedlight or a camera bag. C: One of the first ‘creative’ photos I took was of the rocks in my backyard. I popped the photo onto the computer making it black and white, proceeded to color one rock in pink and added the caption “You are one in a million”. It still makes me simultaneously cringe and laugh. V: Do you have a favourite genre of photography? Do you prefer the city or nature?
A: I’ve been lucky enough to have had the opportunity to work in many different genres. At the moment my love for football photography is growing to a point where it has given me work with OAKLEY and MELBOURNE CITY - so Sports Photography is my favorite. The passion and the sense of connection between yourself and the players, who are only meters away is like no other. In the end, I love photography and all things creative. C: I really like landscape photography and also really surreal edits. Nature 110%! Being amongst trees and forests is my favorite thing to do. It makes me so incredibly happy.
V: You’ve done some cool stuff for brands like OAKLEY, ANZ, YAMAHA & more - what is the dopest campaign you have ever shot/coolest place you have ever travelled to for work?
A: All campaigns are great; having the chance to work with such well-known brands is just a dreams come true.
V: How did you two meet & how did he/she pop the question?
A: Running around the nightclubs under my alias name - I actually took a photo of Chantelle. We later realized that we had mutual friends and interests. A few months later I awkwardly texted her asking if she can be my "boyfriend" (me trying to be funny) – a few years later she said YES when I asked her to marry me. The proposal? Long drive to the Californian Redwood Forest in Victoria, early morning picnic with a little adventure. I was nervous - almost dropped the ring. Set up my tripod and camera, pretended as if it was just another portrait. Ran to and from the camera until all was ready, got the ring in my sweaty palm and asked her to marry me :).
V: What are your plans for the upcoming year?
A: Every year I set 3 main goals and 1 large goal that I need to work hard to be able to achieve. In 2016 I'll be working on a few personal projects and hopefully host my own gallery opening closer to the end of the year.
V: Any advice to those who want to make it big in the photography game?
A: Never compare yourself to others. Hard work always pays off.

2016 Aus Open
A big highlight of the Aussie summer, apart from the long, hot days at the beach with froffies, is the annual Open Season for Tennis… with froffies - an event not confined solely to tennis enthusiasts.
The 2016 Australian Open saw Novak Djokovic take the title for the 6th year in a row.
Apart from this a few highlights for us here at Volley:
1. A stroke of pure architectural genius that is the Rod Laver Bridge in Brisbane.
Designed in 2010, the warren truss structure stands to improve connectivity for the tennis going public as it connects the Yeerongpilly Railway Station to the Queensland Tennis Centre site, also home of Pat Rafter Arena.
Coolest part about it though, is that the bridge is largely modelled on our very own ‘Sole of Australia’! They’ve even made a viewing portal which reflects the shoe size ring on our sole.
The Interior - green, gold and white like the shoe trimming on our classic International.
Snaps taken by Jon Linkins - Architectural Photographer. Cheers to M3Architecture for this awesome construction!
2. Volley was featured in ANZ campaign #HeadbandForGood. Finishing up today, the initiative supported by Novak Djokovic, allows people to post a pic using #HeadbandForGood after which ANZ will donate $5 to @WorldVisionAus.
