Ok, but consider...
You can't just give me a bunch of elite sheltered assholes in a domed, transduction shielded city associated with a destroyed 'homeworld' and not expect me to make connections.
(also sorry Rodan, you don't deserve to be giffed next to Lindy in any respect, let alone twice over)

So, since recently we've been revisiting the topic of 13 essentially confessing to Yaz that she loved her, just not in those exact words...
And because I've been meaning to do this anyway for a coupla weeks now but I've been lazy, plus at times I wasn't sure I'd find the right words to express myself properly...
I'd like now to revisit what (to me personally) is the closet thing to an ILY that 13 ever said:
For the Doctor, the concept of "forever" is more real, more concrete, than it is for the rest of us. Her own memories of her past lives stretch back thousands of years, and based on the events of TTC she's potentially billions of years old, possibly older than the universe itself.
She might continue on for billions more years, outliving the universe, outliving time, going on and on... quite literally...forever.
So when the Doctor says the word "forever" in this context, it isn't the same as when we mortals use it. For her, "forever" is a very real possibility.
And if she could, she would spend that "forever" with Yaz.
Until time itself runs out, and even beyond that, she would choose to be with Yaz.
That is commitment on a scale we simply cannot conceive of. And in it's own way, "I wish this would go on forever" is just about the biggest confession of love she could possibly make.

One of my favorite Horrors in regards to the time war / the time lords is the idea of someone, something being wiped from existence. The idea of losing someone you love but having no idea you did because they never existed… during the time war, how many times do you think a gallifreyan or anyone else just stopped and thought “oh” because someone they loved was wiped from existance and/or brought back and the grief and longing they couldn’t place just clicks. How strong are the ripples throughout the cosmos when just one person, one friend, one lover, never existed?

Thinking about that post I just reblogged um Gallifrey is actually so fascinating for representations of loving a person vs loving the state to the point where I feel a core component of the entire story is that the state will always be the antithesis to love. Love for the state renders you blind to love for other people. It sets up an inverse arc in the beginning with Leela to literally display this fallacy belief that love for people can be felt or shown through love of or service to the state. For a bit her love for Romana is expressed by default as love for the state (guarding her on diplomatic missions and her safety mainly) but as that goes on and ESPECIALLY with the Andred reveal (someone she thought she loved and loved her has become completely hidden within the state AND the man she loved is dead, with the most obvious symbolic proof of the fact. His transition from love to the state killed him) she is shown not just its untenability but its impossibility. And Narvin is on a terminal arc that had no illusion of inverse, Narvin is the personification of that core statement: when he lived for state he had nobody and felt nothing. When he lived for those women he literally found a point beyond technical for being alive. Leela also I feel goes through this process of becoming more candid and honest to herself about things and by the point she lost her vision it’s finished and that actually sets her back a bit but she does get there again and in a bigger way, and it in large part To Me deals with separating Romana from the state and refusing to serve the state when she does serve Romana. Their switch from government officials to political exiles is a physicalisation of this shift that Leela and Narvin have both gone mostly through at this point. Gallifrey’s hidden little thesis statement is the state and love cannot coexist in your heart. The state is the diametric opposite of love. Fad Gadget said “you’re not working anymore for love under the flag” and 20 years later Gallifrey was like what if we made that one lyric last six plus seasons and we tested and proved it in every way imaginable. I leave you with this Narvin quote from Dissolution: Oh, listen to me. I used to think there was no place for sentimentality in all this. I truly believed it. Now, it seems to be all I have left.

Narvin “pretending” to be parental towards Kransa is so funny. Sir you’re predisposed to adopt. You’re five seconds from asking her how schools going. Thats your first duckling. Of MANY.
