I hate that when I look up #free Palestine on this app all I can see are scams and fake fundraising posts. I hate it for two reasons.

1: they are fake.

Even if 1% are real, they are fake. And I say they are fake because the people behind those fundraisers will never see that money. Why? Because they are in war-torn Gaza. Bombs are being dropped on them. What is your $20 going to do against a bomb?

Even if 1% are real, you are spreading the money too thin. There are organizations out there that are making a difference. Providing medical aid, funding humanitarian lawyers suing Israel, feeding Palestinians, helping children who have been displaced. These organizations can actually help. And still you risk giving money to a scam.

2: they closed the truth from being spread.

This is a blog. Regardless of whether your a meme account, a nerdy account, nsfw, fashion, aesthetic, this is a place for free speech. This is an avenue for people to spread their message and their first hand accounts of what’s happening. But their voices are being stifled by fake scams panhandling for money. It’s just like when, in 2029, ignorant liberals posted black squares, stifling all communication about Black Lives Matter. It’s performative activism that helps no one.

Please. Stop spreading scams. No they aren’t vetted. No the pictures aren’t real. You know what’s real? PCRF. Islamic Relief Fund. Doctors Without Borders. And if you don’t have money, donate your time. Learn about Palestine. Learn about Yemen and the Congo and Syria. Uplift voices of those telling you their experiences. Listen and learn.

Please stop platforming fake Gaza accounts and asks. I see them every time I log in, and it frustrates me to no end to see scams and scammers take advantage of those who care about Gaza and Palestine. DO NOT DONATE TO GO FUND MES THAT ARE NOT VETTED AND YOU KNOW PERSONALLY. These are SCAMS. Even if they weren’t, they only help a few and, unfortunately, genocide is not something you can fix by throwing money at.

There are real resources that are vetted and under-funded. I myself have helped raise over $4,000 for Gaza at my school, so I know this cause well, and it is dear to my heart both as a Muslim but also just as a human being. But the money is not what helped. It was who we gave it to and how they helped those in Gaza and other parts of Palestine under attack.

Here are some better resources for you to donate to than go fund mes:

Doctors Without Borders has continually provided medical aid to those in Palestine who have been affected by the occupation.

UNRWA has been one of the few orgs allowed in to Palestine to give aid and shelter to Palestinian refugees. When Israel shut down the boarders for trade to starve out Palestinians, UNRWA volunteers risked their lives to bring food in. You can also give zakat through UNRWA.

Islamic Relief USA has worked for decades to help displaced Palestinians land on their feet. They provide hot food, medical care, education, and more to refugees.

The Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund is a charity focusing on how the horrors of the occupation have affected children. They fund hospitals, hospital infrastructure, sponsorships programs, amputee rehabilitation, and more.

Please, PLEASE consider one of these orgs before donating to a random, unvetted go fund me. These orgs are underfunded and do amazing work in Palestine (and other countries). If it matters, they also are vetted charities that you can write off on your taxes. Additionally, for my fellow Muslims, a couple of them qualify for your zakat.
