With these, there still places around the community that can cause harm which are man-made. Some hazardous places such as streets that has manholes that has protruding steel handles which can cause people to trip. In addition are some drainage and canal that are not fully furnished that can cause people to fall of not noticed. Lastly are the part of the streets that has scattered cement pipe that can cause harm to passer byes. However, there are also good practices that the barangay has been doing recently like roving patrols every now and then, stationed bantay bayan or tanods and roving ambulances as well.

i have realized that with the different preparations and events that the community has been providing there are really giving everything for the security and safety of the different individual of their city. wherein, what they have ought before they got the different positions they are in now, are being done and they are making themselves trustful and respected with their actions and projects.

Having an interview session with one of the Barangay Kagawad here in the community I live is a first and wonderful experience. As I had my small conversations and interview session with Barangay Kagawad Lemuel Palero Bonga, I was surprised that there were different activities, seminars and other events that the barangay conducts in collaboration and full support of the city mayor. Wherein in these different organized events are mostly about the disaster risk reduction of the city.

Currently, the barangay has been preparing and carefully watching for the different updates regarding earthquakes. Barangay Kagawad Lemuel Palero Bonga stated that, there is a specifically street in the vicinity of our barangay that has a very high risk of danger whenever a strong earthquake will his is. This street is “Boni”, it is dangerous because it has the greatest number of tall buildings and condominiums. With the different typhoons that struck the country Mandaluyong has been one of the cities that has little to no casualties due to the different preparation that the city and barangay conducts annually

In our baranggay,  as it was said only Boni avenue has the highest risk that can occur with the different infrastructures that was built around which is prone to falling or being destroyed when an earthquake hits the community. However, there are places in the barangay that are called the safe place/s. Open fields in the different schools inside the barangay and other open spaces for earthquake evacuation. The public elementary schools and other evacuation centers for flood evacuation.

Although the barangay has its different preventive measures and preparations they also have small problems such as occurrence of fire in isolated places that causes destruction of the environment and creates a big commotion in the crowd. There are only a small amount of isolated cases of fire that occurred. With these small accidents the barangay does not have their own fire trucks to respawn, it is the fire trucks from the city hall that respawn. It is because the barangay hall does not have enough space for them to have their own trucks.

The barangay officials suck as the counselor, kagawads and the bantay bayan are enforced to provide safety measure in the different calamities that may come so as the basis security of the community. They conduct a seminar called “ information Education Campaign” in isolated areas and depressed areas of the community. Whereas, these campaigns is done quarterly. This campaign introduces the different emergency measure and the things that may happen when a disaster will happen to the community. This makes the citizen to be prepared and knowledgeable of the things that should be done in different situation in the community. There are also equipment’s like hard hats that are provided by the city mayor in partnership of the different barangay these are hard hats and go kits.

Once the barangay is informed that there will be an upcoming storm the city would be disseminating memos and announcements for cutting down trees that may cause electricity disruptions, falling debris and cause any harm. This is the reason why for the past years there has not been one power disruption in the city specifically the barangay because of the preventive measures that the city has been practicing.

These disasters, are the common disasters that the country has been continuously preparing and experiencing in a number yearly. it is a must that we must would be fully prepared and resolve all the necessary problems that are related to the natural disasters because it is the citizens’ life are the one on the line. and once a life has been taken there is nothing to bring it back not even tears that would be shed after. as part of the city, we should help the officials with just simple acts of trash segregation also conservation of electricity and water. we should also start to educate ourselves with the different current events that can happen and how to prevent such also the different preparations.
