Gym Broski

‪Last week, I gave constructive criticism to a Youtuber who I, at the time, admired for his social commentary on entertainment media because I liked the logic and reasoning skills he used to display his views. He then proceeded to react to said criticism in a very emotional and childish manner. At one point, he even called me a “gym bro” which if you know me, I am definitely not. I can’t trust the logic and reasoning of a man who generalized someone simply based on their profile pic. Nonetheless, I’ll take the backhanded compliment of sorts. Lol. Batman and Robin

As an actor, I sometimes like to weigh in on amazing performances I’ve seen in my lifetime. One of which being Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze in Joel Schumacher’s underrated Batman and Robin. Is the film corny? Yes. Could it have been better? Definitely. This may be a controversial stance but hear me out. The movie, despite its flaws has one diamond in the rough. That being Schwarzenegger’s subtle representation of the deeply conflicted Mr. Freeze. The Austrian’s master delivery of fantastically written lines such as “ICE to see you!” Or “Everybody CHILL!” may be lost in their subtlety. However, let’s dissect that which the tormented character is TRULY trying to say. The words “ICE” and “CHILL” work as two sides of the same coin in their complexity. Each sharing a double meaning if you will. As your primitive and ignorant ears listen to these expressions and simply hear a simple expression, you miss the OTHER SIDE of these expression that being that they are related to THE COLD. Mr. Freeze, in case you may have missed this reveal in the film’s narrative, is a COLD based villain. And, again, because of Schwarzenegger’s incredibly light yet powerful portrait of the character, this connection between Mr. Freeze’s speech and what makes Freeze, well, himself, can be lost on the audience if they are not looking (or in this case listening) closely. Are you looking closely now? If not, take a look at Batman and Robin one more time. For my money, the best film to come out of the 90’s. And also a film with possibly the most overlooked performance from one of our finest thespians of our time. Edit: I just realized something else guys. His name. MR. FREEZE. I think that that’s supposed to be referencing something concerning the COLD concept. I’m not 100% convinced but I’ll look into it. Oh, and APRIL FOOLS. #batmanandrobin

Last Week

Along with the pipe bomber and the rest of the madness of last week, it’s incredible to see being Jewish in 2018 still makes you a target for hate crimes. If someone has a different view towards religion and politics, has a different shade of skin color, speaks a different language, was born in a different country, prefers the same sex, or simply lives a different lifestyle that yours, it does not grant you the right to wish ill and death upon them. Those who make us uncomfortable STILL DESERVE the RIGHT to LIFE. They still carry blood in their veins and are worth the respect that comes with humanity. People unlike ourselves also have family and friends who would deeply mourn their deaths if they were to find out that their lives were taken because they were targeted for the same reasons they were loved within their community. And on top of that, you are not as special as you’d like to think. You may think that you carry the answers and that your way of life is correct, but don’t we all believe that? We all know the truth and everyone else is wrong and not as worthy as us. Well, maybe we need to reengineer our way of thinking. Perhaps it’s time for us to start a dialogue about improving the quality of life of not just ourselves but also those outside our inner circle. Terrorism and hate crimes are wrong. The current political climate does not allow us to see each other as equals. Be we are. We all deserve to be heard without being condemned. #love #peace #equality #nomorehate

I had a friend of mine ask me about her young son getting a job. I told her Americorp is a great start. I served two terms, worked in the gang prevention unit and once a month helped build houses for Habitat for Humanity. Americorp helped me get through college and while I was completing my bachelors in psychology, I soon began to work with case managers for troubled youths as well as the Boys and Girls Club of America. Eventually I worked in politics as a canvas team leader and a field organizer for two separate US senate races. It’s important to teach the youth how to be involved with their community and to to show them how much they can impact their fellow neighbors and citizens. #americorps #habitatforhumanity #communityservice

On Friday, I had an amazing shoot with professional boxer Jesus Ramos. The title of the film is Horacio and Julio. A film about a former boxer training and bonding with his son. Coach Hector told me that Broadway Boxing, where we shot one of the training sequences, was the same gym Sony Pictures used to film the first season of Ray Donovan. Looking back, when I was on the third season of Ray Donovan a few years ago, the recreated set at Sony Pictures looked EXACTLY like Broadway Boxing with the exception of a few details.
