My favorite part about being sapphic is when the things I love about other women become things I love about myself. One day I was tracing another woman’s stretch marks in a dim bedroom light. And then, seemingly by accident, I was doing it to myself in my bathroom mirror. I loved the feeling of a full hand of flesh when I grabbed a woman’s hips, and then mine didn’t need to be so skinny anymore. I looked at a woman’s lower stomach pudge and thought it was so soft and cute, then never wanted a flat stomach again. Loving women can be so healing when you come from a world that doesn’t.

do any other ex jw’s love and relate to the song, fable by gigi perez? the lyrics resonate so deep within me and i’m gonna explain why.

— “hedges of prayer, because you believe doesn’t mean that its there” i LOVE this line, i interpret it as the congregation justifying hate because of their belief. but faith does not excuse conditional love.

— “i feel when i question my skin starts to burn, why does my skin start to burn?” OH MY GOD. absolutely PERFECT. as a jw, we are taught to never question the elders or the governing body and follow blindly, so when i did start questioning, i felt shame and fear.

— “capitol loss, love was the law and religion was taught” again, i relate to this line so much. i interpret it as, loving is in our blood, it is natural, no matter the others gender. but religion, religion has taught us to hate our roots, has taught us to hide, our of fear, our of shame, but we will not hide anymore. i am not embarrassed of who i am.

— “i dream of eternal life, i dream of eternal life” i know this verse is about gigi’s late sister, but i like to interpret it as, since jw’s believe eternal life in paradise is “any day now” that i dream of that life, i dream of what i once believed in, of what i thought was hope, i dream of finding family within the community i was raised in. but i know that it is not true, none of it is, it is all fable. all a lie. nothing but a storybook to comfort those in vulnerable times.

anyways- if ur an ex jw (especially if ur queer as well) and you haven’t listened to fable yet, GO LISTEN TO IT. it’s such a beautiful queer song.

people are completely okay with she/her gays, but he/him lesbians make the world grind to a halt. people don't question when gay men call each other girl and use she/her pronouns while still identifying as gay men, but the second a he/him lesbian takes a breath, he's a threat. think about why this is and why it bothers you so much. why is a she/her gay seen as very normal in the queer community to the point of being commonly accepted, but a he/him lesbian is a threat? your fear of masculinity and manhood aren't helping anyone, it's disrespecting & hurting people in real time, and you should care.

It’s always so sad to me when people will use anything but the word lesbian to describe lesbianism. Lesbian isn’t a dirty word. Lesbianism is beautiful and rich in culture and has deep historical roots. The compassion and care in the lesbian community is like no other I’ve ever been part of. Lesbianism is a beautiful thing and word. Lesbian lesbian lesbian. Say it again and again until you unlearn that lesbophobia.
