You ever wonder what it was like for Dick when he first outgrew Robin?

And no I don't mean when he first became Nightwing or first moved on. I mean when he first put on his old Robin suit, the one that was left as untouched as possible from its old design as a performer's suit with whatever padding Bruce was able to subtly hide under the fabric or get Dick to wear after hours and even days of begging convincing, and it didn't fit.

What was it like for 10-year-old Dick, not even a year after his parents' death and the loss of everything he knew with how kids grow so quickly, to pull on his shirt and realize he can barely squeeze his arms into the sleeves? To lose that one last piece of his family? To lose the ability to wear the suit his mom and dad wore with him?

To have tangible proof that he was growing, changing, moving on when their bodies would forever be still and unmoving under the ground?

I'd imagine he'd push it off for as long as possible. Shoes would be first I bet, with them growing tight and even giving him cuts and calluses on his feet with how snug they were. Or maybe the gloves with them being so tight they almost cut off circulation to his hands. Then, with the suit itself, he'd wear it despite how it didn't quite stretch as far as he could anymore with how the garments were already stretching with him standing straight.

And when Bruce finally does what Bruce does best and makes something to fix the problem (or what he sees as the problem at least) and comes to Robin with a new suit and gear that's almost identical to the first? A compromise in his mind as something to keep Dick from hurting himself but still sticking to his roots with the colors and design?

I think Dick would yell. Scream at Bruce for trying to take away what little he has left of his parents. Maybe even throw out an accusation of Bruce trying to replace his parents, one that he doesn't really believe but knows will make Bruce understand even a modicum of hurt Dick feels.

And then when the rage eventually peters out as all anger does, even if it does take a few weeks or to do so,

I think that Dick will break down.

Maybe it's after a particularly bad fight in the streets of Gotham, one that leaves Bruce hurt and Dick reeling, or maybe just after one too many quiet nights between the dynamic duo as they patrol Gotham. But either way, it comes fast and it comes hard.

Dick feels hurt and alone as he grieves all over again, greivs for everything he misses and everything that refuses to stay with him no matter how hard he tries to hold them tight. But all the while Bruce is right there with him to help in whatever way he can for his ward, for his boy. And they reconcile, apologize, and try to heal together, helping each other in the only ways they can.

But some wounds run deeper than others, and some actions and words linger where they shouldn't, ones that pop right back up when it'd hurt most.

Bruce never fully adopting Dick because of those heated words. Dick feeling betrayed that Bruce would not only take away the last bit of his family with Robin and his colors, but to then give them to the next kid that comes across Bruce's path as well.

Hurt lingers and grief comes in waves. Healing isn't linear and wisdom and hindsight come with time. The past is an unavoidable abyss that everything must fall to eventually, no matter how much you wish to cling to it. Or how much you wish to forget.

And I think that's a lesson Dick learns many, many years down the line. As right then and there, all he can feel is true misery.

On another note, I kept playing after posting last time and now I just have: The dlc stuff (all of godmaster and less than half of grim), the flower trail quest for the last mask shard, the white palace, and then I just need to fight the radiance and win the game!

I've known about and have watched videos about Hollow Knight for years now, but with Silk Song actually happening soon, I figured I could buckle up and attempt my first 112% playthrough.

I've done the dreamers, 2/3rds of the colloseum of fools, most of the map, and almost all the upgrades so this is the farthest I've gone in the game. But yeah, I love this game and its story and gameplay and-

Bear with me I am devolving into what is now becoming my new hyperfixation as Kpop Demon Hunters becomes a way too big of a brainworm for me. I have fallen for the propaganda, the TikToks have swayed me, and I have watched the movie.

OMG it's amazing and Your Idol is playing on repeat in my head whether I like it or not It's So Good!!!!

So yes, I have found something else to occupy my mind instead of my many WIP and yes I am writing a Post Canon Fix-it about it because JINU LIVES HE'S ALIVE I SWEAR-

I'm just thinking about the chaos that can ensue due to Damian's years of tutoring clashing with the usual American schooling system from the other bats. Not from the material though, from the culture.

Like all the other bat children have gone through at least a few years of American High School: Dick after Bruce takes him in, Jason in the years where Bruce puts him in school before he died, Tim before he said Fuck This Noise and dropped out. But Damian?

Sure he knows all the material, is way beyond most of the material honestly, but that's not the point. The point is that Damain hasn't yet gotten indoctrinated traumatised used to the American Education System.

Damian: What is with their constant insistence on the most inconsequential things? What is so important about- about a mitochondria?? Dick, Jason, and Tim at the same time: The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. Damian: wtf??

I know I've said it before but I'm saying it again, I just absolutely adore how Danny's eyes glow green in human form when he's getting particularly mischievous, not just when he's especially angry

Like this boy has a built in warning signal for when he's about to be a little menace to society and I love that for him

Yeah I think that's a little odd. Tim: No no he has a point. Jason: See! Being cut vertically is better cause it's an instant death sort of thing. No suffering. If you get sliced horizontally then you gotta flounder with your insides out and wither away. Tim: But at least horizontally has a chance at survival. Jason: Well yeah but this is how I'd prefer to die if I were cut in half. If death is gonna happen I want it to be instant. I've had my slow demise already. The Helmet (and the maniac who wears it)

Jason and Dabi in some sort of firefight, or captured, or some other insane situation that has Jason throwing his helmet at a wall for them to escape.

Jason: I have a plan. *Throws helmet* Dabi: *Watches as the helmet bounces harmlessly off the wall* Wow, great plan there my guy. Jason: *Presses detonator* Dabi: *In shock at how there suddenly isn't a wall anymore* Did- did your helmet just fucking explode? Jason: *Through the wall and now in the process of hijacking a car* That's what happens when you set a bomb off. Dabi: You have a bomb strapped to your head? What the fuck is wrong with you!! Jason: Just shut up and get in the fucking car already! Dabi: Fuck no I'm not getting anywhere near you until I know you don't have anymore fucking bombs on you! Jason: Of course there are bombs on me. What do you think the utility belt is for? Cosmetics?? Dabi: You're fucking insane!! Jason: Pot meet kettle now GET YOUR ASS IN THE CAR BEFORE I THROW YOU IN IT!!
