Kenny Loggins - Dickies Arena April 28th
Decades ago when I was a small boy I was lucky enough to catch a live performance by Kenny Loggins on WLS AM out of Chicago. The static would overtake the performance at times but I was still thrilled to be able to catch all the music that my parents had enjoyed like Danny's Song as well as the late 70s solo hits. It was very special for me. Later in life as I became a love struck teenager I grew to appreciate the creations that Michael McDonald and Kenny put together, most notably "What a Fool Believes". I have bored many people with the origin story around that tune and was very much looking forward to having it performed. I purchased these tickets six months ago when the show was announced and due to my recent injury I wasn't sure of the logistics but knew I had to make it one way or another. Last Friday I loaded a lady friend in the car and despite the threat of terrible weather, we made it to Dickie's Arena. We were lucky enough to find close parking and off we were. The opening act of Yacht Rock Revue was great though their sound man seemed to be having issues. I was afraid that this might translate over to Kenny's performance but apparently during stage change they were able to make the corrections. Kenny came out and started off playing some of his older hits including "Keep the Fire" and "Heart to Heart" He eventually got to "Return to Pooh's Corner" which hit right in the Heart. He then followed up with several of his Kenny & Micheal hits. The gentleman on stage singing Micheal's portions did a fantastic job, what a voice. Kenny then did the Santa Cruz version of "What a Fool Believes" and I was transported back to that earlier time. What a pay off. Kenny did two separate encores the first upon return was some of his most High Energy Hits which included "Danger Zone", "Playing with the Boys", and "Footloose" which had a very interesting video presentation. The last encore was "Forever" which while not high energy was very emotional. Over all the concert was very satisfying, the crowd was older like myself and very high energy and appreciative, and Dickie's is a great facility. Very beautiful, very clean, and their staff could not be nicer.
