so here’s august! total loss of 2.4 pounds. honestly, i’m not too mad about this. today, i hit the 130s!! (139.8, but still!!) my first goal is 135 and it seems more in reach than ever. I think I’m finally understanding how to eat and I’m looking forward to more progress in September.
at this rate, I’ll hit my goal in 10 months. kinda wanna hit it in half that time, but I’m not going to do anything drastic or extreme. I want this to be sustainable. if I don’t hit my goal until next june that wouldn’t be the worst!

Top 5 Tips for Weight Loss
1. In the beginning, focus on eating and ignore exercise.
Trying to do it all is overwhelming and you’re more likely to give up when you’re overwhelmed. We’ve all heard it – weight loss is 80% nutrition, 15% exercise, 5% genetics. But studies have proven time and again that exercise does little for weight loss. Don’t get me wrong – it’s still important for the health of your lungs, heart, muscles and your whole body. But let’s tackle one thing at a time. Focus on eating better and only once you’ve got that nailed start to incorporate exercise ( unless of course you love to exercise, then keep going!)
2. Focus on daily goals, not the big picture.
Thinking patterns like “If I lose 2 lbs every week for the next 10 weeks, I’ll be 140 lbs by May, then another 20 lbs by July …” Again, gets overwhelming. The path is so long and arduous it’s easy to get discouraged. Focus on meeting your goals today. Then do the same thing tomorrow. Then again the day after that. Keep your head down, only looking up every once in a while to see how far you’ve come.
3. Don’t make weight loss your goal. Make changes in behaviours and mindset your goal. Let weight loss be a side effect.
Make meeting your calorie or macro or point target your goal. Make avoiding trigger foods your goal. Make sticking to your healthy eating plan your goal. This is called action-oriented goal setting, as opposed to results-oriented or outcome-oriented goal setting. If you do the actions right, the result will happen as a happy side effect.
4. Accept the truth of what’s been holding you back and what you have to give up in order to move forward.
Truth: I can’t stick to my plan only Monday to Friday and do whatever I like on the weekend and still meet my goal. I have to give up weekend free-for-all’s.
Truth: I can’t “take a break” from healthy eating over the holidays because it takes me too long to get back on track. I have to give up ‘special occasion eating’ so I can be happy the other 360 days of the year.
Truth: It takes me a long time to lose weight. I’m a slow loser, my body just works that way. I have to give up getting upset that it’s not going faster and just be happy with consistency. Down is down.
5. Come to terms with the fact that this is forever.
Sure, anyone can eat less and lose weight. But that’s all you will have done. Lost weight. Unless you plan to keep going you will have no where to go once you’ve lost the weight. Remember: Temporary efforts = temporary results. Permanent efforts = permanent results. There is no other way.

by the end of july my weight was really creeping back up to my all-time high, but I’ve been doing better the last few days and I feel really motivated to get back on track. it’s hard because we’re doing a lot of ordering out from restaurants this week, and I want to enjoy my food, but I also know that restaurant portions are insane and it’s hard for me to stop once I start.
but taking it day by day and trying to make good choices beyond just what I eat - went for a long walk this morning, gonna go for a run later, on Day 6 of the Blogilates 100 Ab challenge, and doing yoga almost every day. i’m excited to see where this month takes me!
