From buying pot through the guy your coworker knows to now having cannabis retail shops down the street from each other, the cannabis world has come a long way. Growing up, it was taboo. Something that was hidden and only talked about in secret. It was what parents did when the kids went to sleep. Most people who smoked weren’t vocal about their use and no one really knew who smoked except the dealers. It blows my mind that I have been given the opportunity to sell in a cannabis shop, LEGALLY! I am going to tell you about my experience joining in this everchanging industry and as a new budtender at Trove Cannabis.

Stepping into the world of cannabis can be overwhelming or nerve wracking for some but, worry not, this industry is amazing and here at Trove, we love to help customers find exactly what they’re looking for. Instead of picking up whatever your dealer had, you now have the convenient luxury of hundreds of products. Having the opportunity to be a part of this industry and be hands on with these products has been amazing. I knew I liked to smoke weed (don’t we all?) but I didn’t know that being a new budtender would come with having a completely different appreciation for the plant. Seeing the different customers that get to enjoy the plant and share in what we budtenders learn every day is something I appreciate.

If you are looking to get into the budtending side of the “cannafamily” I say dive in. Learn everything there is to know about this plant, believe me, it’s endless. The industry is constantly changing and growing. There are so many ways we can extract, cross and breed the plant, its mind blowing! Whether you started with a makeshift can pipe, homemade apple pipe, rolled a joint for yourself, or just started when recreational marijuana because legal, there is a community behind cannabis and that’s been my favorite part being new to this industry. Rain Garden Steward

Breaking Bones Down Like Swishers

I’m laid up with a fractured axial head. Which is NOT a badass cyborg component, I looked it up. It’s just a bone in your arm. Fun fact: Bones are hard, harder than wood. This puts into perspective the violent impact required to break them and why karate dudes’ practice on wood boards instead of bone boards. Also, a board made of bone would be gross. If you’re anything like me, you’ve experienced your fair share of dings and bruises. Every now and then that bruise turns out to be a fracture, and you need to bust out your wolverine healing factor. Seeing as I am no mutant, I depend on the amazing powers of cannabis to help with dealing with the aches, sleeplessness, and to quell the general blues of being a little broken up.

Being a budtender here at Trove, I’m privileged to be surrounded by a wide array of marijuana products. I prefer to use CBD and THC as an alternative to opioids or other pain relief medications. It’s not to say that I’m expecting a full recovery in half the time, just looking to make my recovery time half as bearable. I need this process to be speedy, and stress free; as opening day is fast approaching. After seeing I’m all busted up, my manager thought I would thoroughly enjoy A.) Complaining to an audience B.) Letting said audience know what is working for me. Basically, I’m going to run you through a standard day in the life of me, Raven “broken wing” Rider, and the range of products I’ve been using to get by.

Since I’ve been managing chronic pain with cannabis for 5 years I’m starting to pin down the products that work for me. For the last two ski seasons, I’ve come to depend on the CBD Healing Stick from Wildflower. I recently tried Wildflowers CBD Lavender Soap, its calming aroma combined with the CBD creates an amazing product. The calm feeling I get from the lavender CBD soap is comparable to the feelings I get after rubbing essential oils on my temples; nothing too drastic… but it sure is pleasant. Also, I smell like a fresh bathed baby for half the day. In addition, I have been liberally applying the Healing Stick after using the soap… this is called the CBD double whammy. After 10 minutes, I can count on the sensational cooling effects to set in.

The moment I opted out of pain meds in that emergency care office, I knew I’d be purchasing CBD dabs. It was the day after the accident, I was in a lot of pain and wanted instant relief and a lot of it. The only problem was, I wanted to remain lucid throughout my day. I needed to avoid as much loopiness as possible. Thankfully, here at Trove Cannabis we had just what I needed. I was able to get my hands on some Dabstract AC/DC Sap (rare indeed, considering the superior quality). This stuff came in at over 60% CBD with almost no THC. This would be my choice in dab to be smoked at ANY time… The lack of THC makes it a focused, and attentive high, perfect for day time use. For me, it was incredibly useful for taking the edge off the pain of repairing bones. Whenever I need to step up the sedation levels for sleep, or am just looking for some recreational fun, I’ll grab my favorite dab oil and mix it in. Recently I’ve been in love with Khush Kush, and their connoisseur line blends. If we’re not sold out, I favor the “All Gas No Break”. This blend’s insanely dense terpene profile inundates the senses with a range of feelings, ranging from relaxation to a giddy bliss. All this wrapped in a saucy, easily scoop-able dab oil that is sure to WOW you.

There’s something for everyone in this industry. Having the means to search out strains based on flavors, or to pick from a trove of dab oil options, is a privilege to say the least. I used to get excited every day about new products in all the sectors… besides edibles. Per Washington state LCB regulations, the legal serving size is 10 milligrams. This is a safe way to ensure that literally ANYONE can enjoy a brownie. Which is important for not scaring away newbies to the THC game, or anyone looking to get back into it. Medicinal users or anyone who smokes very large quantities of weed on a regular basis will often find edibles to be underwhelming. At 10 milligrams a piece, I must eat a whole 10 pack to feel a tickle. So yeah, I hadn’t found an edible that could satisfy my needs… until now. Very recently we received a new version of an already phenomenal product from Olala, the 250 milligram sodas! With 250 milligrams of total cannabinoids, this micro brewed soda answers a stoner’s prayer. Containing 100 milligrams THC and 150 milligrams CBD, this baddy serves as my night cap. The available flavors are orange cream, classic cola, or lemon lime. It’s a liquid, so the effects hit quick: no 3 hour waiting games for me with this one. It should also be noted that this product is good for sharing and comes with a handy dosing-cup. Go slurp one!

I used to be a huge stoner, keywords “used to be”. When I was younger I smoked all day, every day. Wake n’Bake, Lunch n’Bake, Break n’Bake, Off Work n’Bake, Netflix n’Bake, Dine n’Bake, Bedtime n’Bake, Midnight Snack n’Bake. You name an occasion and you’d find me loading a fatty or sparkin’ a doobie. Over the years I’ve taken a few breaks from smoking. Some of them long, some of them short. As time passed my breaks from smoking got longer and I found that my overall enjoyment of being high lessened. Sometimes, after a long break from smoking, I’d jump back on the wagon with the same fervor I had before, savoring the ritual of it all, smoking it up like I just turned 21. After a few bong rips I’d sit back, ready to enjoy the ride – and then my whole life would hit me square in the face. Anxiety bubbling to the surface, thoughts running through my mind, “why did I do/say that one thing, that one time, 5 years ago?”, “can other people hear me breathing?”, “stop thinking, stop thinking, stop thinking!”, “I don’t want to be high anymore!”. At first, I thought it was just an anomaly and that my next session would be business as usual. Boy was I wrong.

As I’ve grown older something has happened to my ability to toke it up all day. I hate being too high now; unless I’m drunk, but that’s a story for another time. That anxious feeling happens all too often when I smoke high THC flower, it doesn’t matter if it’s an Indica, Sativa or Hybrid. That feeling is almost part of my smoking profile now. Rather than fret and give up on my lifelong reefer passion I’ve decided to take a different approach and seek out strains and products that work for my body’s chemistry and my current state of mind. Questions range from consumption methods to how to clean a bong and everywhere in between but, the queries we receive here at Trove are often the same. Although cannabis has been around for a long time, there seems to be an infinite amount of information to learn.  So, I’m here to answer the top 5 questions we are regularly asked.

2. “Are you cash only?”

No, we are not cash only. We accept VISA Debit Cards as payment with a $3.50 surcharge. We also have 2 ATM’s on site (surcharge $2.25), so if you don’t have cash on you when you arrive, no sweat.

3. “What is CBD/What does it do?”

CBD = Cannabidiol

Cannabidiol is the non-psychoactive cannabinoid aka this does not get you high. CBD can be found in both the hemp and the marijuana plant. The main difference between CBD derived from Hemp vs Marijuana is that CBD from hemp has a maximum of .3% THC and can be found in states without recreational marijuana. CBD derived from Marijuana can contain anywhere from 1%-30% THC and is known for its wide medicinal purposes. CBD from the marijuana plant is only found in states with legal medical or recreational marijuana. So, with that said, the CBD that we carry is derived from the marijuana plant and we carry a wide variety of CBD products. Although CBD is typically associated with medical marijuana, this does not mean that CBD cannot be useful for recreational users too! CBD can act as the antidote to THC, producing a well-balanced, smooth high for recreational users! Ask one of our knowledgeable budtenders about our CBD products next time you stop in.

4. “Do you carry edibles?”

Yes, we carry several edibles. They range from 10mg servings to 1000mg packages. We have infused beverages, tinctures, chocolates, cookies, brownies, chewy candies, hard candies and many more options! If you are looking to consume edibles, it is important to be precautious when consuming because they affect everyone differently. Start low and slow and wait at least 2 hours before consuming more if you aren’t feeling it.

5. “Does the coffee next door have weed in it?”

Trove Coffee is just regular coffee. It is illegal in Washington state to consume marijuana in the view of the public which prohibits the use of marijuana in a café/coffee shop.

Butt Wait! Suppositories Offer More Ways to Consume Weed

When I say Marijuana has come a long way, I surely am not lying; at Trove Cannabis we have hundreds of products, from infused edibles to locally-grown bud, concentrates and prerolls, topicals and bags of trim; I could go on but I think you get the idea. A necessary and welcomed part of my job is researching, sampling, and getting very familiar with the different Cannabis products available to our clients, so when I was offered the chance to sample a Cannabis Suppository, I jumped at the opportunity.  Try not to giggle your whole way through this article, but if you do, I won’t blame you; I’ve had a fair share of chuckles throughout my research!

I would say the most fascinating information I learned was about the absorption rate of cannabinoids, which varies depending on the ingestion method you choose. According to one of the lead scientists on this research, Dr. Paula-Noel Macfie, processing the cannabinoids through the liver can mean that plenty of good parts of the Cannabis are lost during metabolism. This is partly due to the liver processing our good friend THC, into the psychoactive chemical that gives us our favorite strain’s buzz. But wait, there’s more: rectal absorption is the most effective method of ingesting Cannabis, as this bipasses the gastrointestinal tract and therefore introduces all those awesome Cannabinoids directly into the body. I told you this was fascinating! Here’s how Back Door Medicine put it:

“Smoked cannabis gives you approx. 15-20% of the cannabinoids, ingesting orally gives around approx. 25-30%, and rectally you receive approx. 75-80% of the medicinal properties, and without impairing cognitive judgement and thinking.”[1]

You might have caught that last part, mentioning the lack of a high associated with ingesting Cannabis in suppository form. Avoiding the liver allows the absorption of the beneficial cannabinoids like CBD and THC [2], without the liver metabolising those chemicals into their psychoactive counterparts. This is helpful to medical patients and any Cannabis users hoping to enjoy the many positives of the plant without the mind-altering components. This is great news for many people who need effective relief that Cannabis can offer, and also require the option of staying focused and unaltered.

The product Rectify from Fairwinds [3] was my first introduction to Cannabis-infused suppositories and I recommend it highly, to beginners and experienced users alike. Unlike some forms of ingesting Cannabis, you do not have to worry about consuming too much and experiencing any negative side effects that overstimulation from THC can cause. This means unaltered and clear-headed activities can be accomplished while still receiving the effects of cannabinoids like CBD and THC, as well as the terpenes that make each strain so deliciously different. I hope you think this is as cool as I do!

As a person who has suffered from menstrual discomfort, I found it incredibly helpful learning about Feminine Relief from Fairwinds [4]. Feminine Relief is a Cannabis suppository, designed to be used vaginally, and meant to aid issues that may be an unwelcome side effect of having a menstrual cycle. The ingredients were researched and picked specifically for the purpose of using the product vaginally, because pH balance is very important when using a suppository in this fashion. As for feedback on this, I was pleasantly surprised by the overall ease of use and comfort that the product gave me.

Industry Peeps are Appreciated!

Since 2012, 9 states and the District of Columbia have legalized marijuana for recreational use and, 29 states have allowed for medical marijuana usage to some degree. The legal cannabis industry is growing rapidly, and we don’t see that slowing down anytime soon. Americans want legal weed and they will continue to use their voice to make it known. We are so fortunate to live in a state with legal recreational and medical marijuana use. This industry is still so young, and we have come so far, it’s amazing to see such growth and positivity stemming from such a controversial industry.

Medical Marijuana Products at Trove

CBD has been a popular subject lately in the media and has certainly increased in popularity for people with medical needs. Even your pets can benefit from CBD! On Top of Ol’ Smokey

It’s 5 am on a Saturday, and I can’t find my phone… the source of that infernal blaring that one could call an alarm clock. After digging through my snow pants and sweats I strategically placed next to my bed, and tearing apart half my room, I find my phone under my pillow. Yep, it was gonna be that type of morning. I’d stayed up late the night before after closing down shop at Trove Cannabis to wax my board; I’d even felt restless enough to pack everything into the car. Unluckily for me, that meant getting a measly 3 hours of sleep… Flash forward to the rude awakening and I finally have my bearings about me. I have my delicious cup of joe in hand and remember two things: 1.) It’s my girlfriend’s turn to drive and 2.) I had a joint of Chocolate Thai from Treehawk Farms left from a previous 2 pack. Because what’s better than Chocolate Thai with coffee pre-snowboarding? Nothing. Besides the fact that I didn’t have to worry about being too stoned to safely navigate the regularly treacherous highway to the mountain. I could sit back, and relax.

If you’re anything like me, early mornings can be confusing, rushed, and overall shitty. On mornings like that, it’s always nice to start the day with a buzzy sativa dominant strain. It can get the conversation going during a long car ride, and includes tasty strains like Treehawk’s “Magnum PI”, Pioneer Nuggets “Cinderella’s Dream”, and Sub-X’s “Hawaiian Dutch.” For the rare mornings when taking it slow is in order, I love to sneak in a heavy indica, such as FDG’s “Island Afghan.” My ideal morning, with a goofy crowd like mine, would have to involve a cookies strain. My absolute favorite would be the citric amazingness that is Sub-X’s “Orange Cookies.”  Ultimately, my wake and bake smoking will depend on 2 factors: how fast I need to get into my car and up the mountain, and the company I intend on keeping for the day.

Here at Trove, we’re lucky to have a wide range of options available for all types of crowds—from the daring chairlift tokers, to the low-key snowboard instructors. For those special happenings and occasions where sharing is a priority and being incognito is not, I love our selection of infused pre-rolls. Boggy Boon offers a nice line of joints dipped in oil and rolled in kief. These joints come in a sativa (Yeti), Hybrid (Squatch), or an indica (Bigfoot).  I mean, it doesn’t get much more adventurous than smoking on Bigfoot… lemme tell ya. Another great option is Boggy Boons line of hash-laced joints. As opposed to being dipped and rolled, these joints contain a regular ‘ol “Deathstar” indica pre-roll or “Super Lemon Haze” sativa pre-roll with hash inside. I personally find that having the hash rolled on the inside requires less maintenance and allows for a more consistent burn.

The ultimate sign of an easy-going smoke sesh on the mountain is when you have time to roll your own. Joints, Blunts, Spliffs, Bones, Doobies, or whatever else you can call ‘em are my favorite thing to smoke on the mountain. I find that when pipes, bubblers, or any breakables are in question; it’s a no go. The old man said I never could have anything nice, and he wasn’t lying, because I break everything. Have you ever landed on a fist-sized vape or bubbler after sending it off a cliff? Do it once, and you’ll think twice before packing your glassware again. That being said, my hand-rolled joints haven’t let me down for the last few ski seasons. But don’t think an effing sandwhich bag is gonna save your fatty for a whole day, I’ve made that mistake once or twice. Get yourself a doob tube to avoid crushing your paper planes. Don’t have one? Ask a stoner roommate or friend; chances are they have a few extras lying around… Gotta recycle when we can, right?

Once I get home, I am essentially the equivalent of a 150 lb Banana slug. I’m tired from being up since 5 AM, I have been riding for 8 hours, and I have been smoking joints since 7: all of these factors spell out shower time and bed. On a perfect night, I would have a gram of Eagle Tree’s AC/DC dab oil waiting for me before the shower. This is a minimal THC product with the intention of delivering maximum CBD for ultimate muscle relief and relaxation. And if that particular strain wasn’t available at Trove, I know my coworkers would hook me up with the next best thing. After my shower, I double up with the Wildflower CBD Coolstick and apply liberally to ANY area of my body that still hurts. I have a particularly tender back at times, and if it weren’t for that lil stick of relief, I would have missed out on a few snowboard trips.

Remember, ride with a partner and play nice with those kiddos and anyone else riding pizza style on their skis. They always seem to be in the wrong place, at the wrong time.

Gorilla Everything

Cannabis lovers everywhere have been talking about Gorilla Glue #4 since GG strains released it to the public around 2014. It went on the win High Times awards within a year, and for so many reasons! This amazingly stoney and terpene rich strain has been a budtender favorite at Trove. It’s a good thing that Khush Kush keeps us stocked up! One of my favorite things is opening a jar and comparing it to the same strain from SubX! The smells alone are similar but you can pick out the diesels in one more, while the other gives off a sweet and sour aroma. Both will make you drool as you’re grinding them up, packing it in a bong and puffing away. (Don’t worry, it goes great in a bowl, joint, or dry herb vape too!) The high is most appropriately described as “gluey” (hence the name; we’ll come back to that). With a great uplifting buzz, GG4 also packs a heavy body high which will likely leave you wanting to do something fun, or you might catch yourself enjoying your least favorite chore more than usual.

A personal recommendation involves using the heavy Indica, such as Royal Kush 7 from Eagle Trees, and mixing it with equal parts of GG4 from Khush Kush. Packing a heavy punch, both strains complement each other nicely leaving me very euphoric and letting the aches of the day fade. This combo has been lovingly named “Queen Kong” by a few people at Trove!

If you’re looking for something even more potent, let me tell you how much I love to take a dab of “Sticky Gorilla”, also from Khush Kush, which is flavorful and incredibly relaxing. The euphoria sets in just as fast as the sedation, which is comfortable and welcomed before or after a long day! Sometimes I enjoy making my own homemade version of a “Moon Rock” (Google Moon Rocks or http://www.moonrocks.com/) by taking a large piece of Sticky Gorilla shatter and a nug of GG4 from Khush Kush, then basically wrapping the GG4 bud with the piece of shatter. You can smoke this in a bong, pipe, or joint, giving you a very potent addition to your bud. The even quicker version would be to break off a chunk of this shatter, or maybe some of Perecan’s CO2 Gorilla Glue wax and put it on a bowl of your ground up GG#4 flower. You’ll get that same heavy hit out of your bong or pipe.

Phat Panda is following this concept with their Firecracker infused pre-rolls, by using GG#4 flower inside the joint, dipping it in Lime oil and then rolling it in kief! This is an incredible joint for its potency and overall great flavors. I always recommend it as a nice party favor if you’re trying to impress friends with a real heavy hitter, or just a nice reward for yourself when you’re in the mood for something easy and good!

Whatever you’re in the mood for, there is a Gorilla Glue or two around to give you and your buds a great high and a happy experience. When I’m enjoying a vape, I pick up the Guerrilla Glue from Harmony Farms that is made exclusively for Indigo Pro Vape pens. The oil itself vapes so smoothly and the flavor profile is intact, so you can taste all the terpenes in that oil, while getting one of the best burns out of a cartridge. The Indigo Pro technology allows a more complete heating process, making each puff as good as the last, without any harsh flavors from the oil being heated too much. There’s a Gorilla for every type of smoker!

I bet you caught the spelling Indigo chooses to use, versus the many ways one could ask for or research the strain GG#4 (Gorilla Glue Number Four, GG#4, GG4, Guerrilla Glue, etc.). Moving forward the strain from GG Strains will be officially called GG4 or some variation, basically avoiding the actual name “Gorilla Glue”. You might be familiar with the household product also going by that name, so to avoid confusion and backlash, in September 2017, GG Strains agreed to call their Cannabis by its nickname, GG#4 and so on. Whether you’re a hobby Cannabis enthusiast or an experienced connoisseur, this strain will always be a favorite across the board, formerly known as Gorilla Glue, but the same bud we’ve always loved.

THC vs. CBD

The cannabis that we know today is packed full of different compounds called cannabinoids. Most people who have consumed cannabis have heard of  tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). THC is a cannabinoid found in cannabis that when smoked, ingested or vaporized produces psychoactive effects known as getting high or stoned. On the other hand, CBD will not get you high or produce psychoactive effects like its friend THC, but it will provide ease to the mind and body. THC is most common among recreational shops and users and CBD has long been associated with medical marijuana because it does play a major role in that industry, BUT it has benefits for all users!!

Unfortunately, CBD is often misconceived by recreational users because why on earth would you want to smoke something that isn’t going to get you high when you want to get high? Seriously though, why would you, I get it. That’s the awesome thing about CBD that isn’t well known!!  It may not get you high on its own, but when paired with THC it influences the way that THC affects you. I like to think of it as a regulator, THC can sometimes be too much for certain situations, CBD can help eliminate/counteract the occasional unwanted feelings associated with THC.

Have you ever felt too high or experienced negative feelings from smoking THC? Had a mini panic attack or maybe even decided you hated smoking weed all together because of a bad experience? I’ve been smoking for quite a while and over those years, I have had a handful of negative experiences related to being ‘too high’. How to Find Your Ratio?

Decide how you want to consume the cannabis.

Decide how high you want to get.

Find Your Ratio.

Avitas and the Joys of Vaporizing

Vaporizing is SO hot right now and there is a good reason why! If you’ve already tried vaping, or you’re thinking about it, there are a few things you should know. Vaporizing your Cannabis is convenient, easy, cost effective and did I mention… discreet?! One of the best parts of vaping is being able to take as many puffs as you want of your favorite Cannabis and you won’t smell like your favorite Uncle or Aunt.

I was really nervous to start using a vape pen, mostly because I didn’t know what I was doing! There were so many options; Google was helpful, but how was I supposed to pick one that fit me best?
