Corten Steel Brief Overview
Tumblr media
Corten steel is actually a figure of the term corrosion and tensile. Corrosion and tensile are mixed to make corten, whose characteristics are defined by the name itself. Like all alloys, this steel is manufactured in association with some alloys. Corten steel is essentially used for exterior construction or for the exhibition of a structure. Steel is also called weathering steel because to eliminate the need for painting and to develop a stable rust like appearance. The Corten steel is mainly used for building an exterior of any structure like building or monuments. There are bridges especially made up of Corten Steel. The alloy is renowned because of its property of getting rusted. A bridge or the outer covering of a structure looks good when the Corten steel is rusted away.
The alloy is specially used for exposing it to the environment. The Corten is a great steel which prevents corrosion but gets rusted for which it is used specifically for outdoor applications and the rusting forms an appearance. The Corten Steel is used to make every product like Pipes, Tubes, Sheets, Plates, Bars, Rods, Pipe Fittings, Flanges, Fasteners, etc. and all these products are used in big industries and companies.
Weathering Steel is another name given to Corten Steel. Weathering because it is mainly used for outer surface of any structure exposing it to all the type of weathers. The steel was invented in 1933 by United States Steel corporation and was patented for its exceptional resistance to corrosion due to which it is also used in railway tracks, cars, aeroplanes, it used to make containers as it can withstand heavy loads of coal, metal ores, other mineral products, etc.
Steel was invented in 1933 by the United States Steel Corporation and was patented for exceptional resistance to corrosion, due to which it is also used in railway tracks, cars, airplanes, it is used to make containers. This is done because it can withstand heavy loads of coal, metal. Ores, other mineral products, etc.
The uses of Corten Steel are done a lot around the world. The steel is applied on the outer surface of the structures due to its unique rusting appearance making it look pleasing.
However, there occur problems in buildings or any structure that uses the weathering steel. There needs to be certainty for the weld points to go along with the weather and at the same rate quite similar to different metal that requires special welding and techniques. Weathering steel is not totally corrosion resistance but can bear for a particular time. The problems for Corten Steel take place if water gets collected into the sockets, if such thing happens then that particular part will have to bear corrosion at much greater degree in order to avoid all these problems the provision for drainage of water needs to be made. The sticky subtropical climates have the ability to make Corten Steel weak and if such situations take place it is definite that the defensive rust would start to erode rather than stabilizing the condition.
Applications
The Corten steel is used for various types of welded, bolted and riveted constructions e.g. steel frame structures, bridges, tanks and containers, exhaust systems, vehicles and equipment constructions. for its strength and durability. Now the aerospace industry uses Corten steel pipe for supplying the fuels and gas. Some major industries that regularly use Corten steel pipes are Oil and Gas Processing, Breweries, Fertilizers, Dairy and Food Processing, Pharmaceuticals, Power Plants, Pesticides, Modern Architecture, Construction, Pulp and Paper, Sugar, Water treatment facilities, Desalination, Synthetic Fibre, Chemicals, Textile Machinery, Ship Building, Refinery & Petrochemicals, Energy industries, etc. Besides there are other renowned application of Corten Steel such as Coin, Medals, Electric Hardware, Tools, Heavy Gears, Boats, Aircrafts, Railroad, Cars, Corrosion Resistant Containers, Heating elements in Toasters and Electric Heaters. In this way Corten steel is used widely in number of industries. This way the Corten steel is used for wide applications and also for an outer frame of the structure.

Key Features of Carbon Steel API 5l X60 Pipe
A Carbon Steel is an alloy of Iron and Carbon. The presence of Carbon makes the alloy much stronger. A carbon steel has a good black appearance and it is the strength of the pipe that makes it more favorable. The carbon steel pipes have three further types low carbon, medium carbon and high carbon. These types of carbon steel are used accordingly. High carbon Steel is the stronger than any other metals and relatively difficult for forging. The mechanical property of a carbon steel is as follows, the Ultimate Tensile Strength is 92100 psi & 635MPa, the yielding strength is 71100 psi & 490 MPa. The chemical property here is Iron is the most in Carbon Steel at 98.8%, Carbon at 0.70%, and some other metals playing their part.

Carbon Steel API 5l X60 Pipe
The API 5L X60 Pipe is a type with whole of a description in the name itself. The X in the name denotes the Minimum Yield Strength and 60 is the value which originally is 60000. API 5L is the specification of the pipe. This type of pipe is significantly used for conveying water, oil and gas. The pipe API 5L X60 is manufactured in both types i.e. Seamless and Welded Pipes. the specification here API 5L is usually known for identifying pipe used to convey oil, gas and water. API 5L X60 pipes include plain-end, threaded-end, belled-end. The pipe type mostly used is seamless for which the diameter can vary from 3/8’’ NB to 30” NB. The thickness can be customized up to 250 mm and length could range from 5 - 13 meters. The coating that are usually provided are Epoxy Coating, Colour Painting, 3LPE Coating. The pipes are very good for any purpose.
The API 5L X60 Pipe made of Carbon Steel has all the features of the steel. As the pie is only used for certain applications the carbon steel plays a good role in that. Carbon steel is a strong steel so the pipe made up of it will keep performing for longer period of time. It can totally prevent corrosion and rusting on the pipe. The yield and tensile strength of carbon steel are good so this pipe is very suitable for any application. The API 5L X60 PSL2 Pipes can be used either in industries or can be used underground for transporting the substance over longer routes.
 Applications
The Carbon Steel API 5L X60 Pipe is used to a great extent in many industries like Oil and Gas Industry, Hydrocarbon & Process Industry, mechanical, structural and General Engineering applications, Automobile Industry, Hydraulics, Refinery, Petrochemical, Offshore, and Onshore Drilling, etc. CS Pipes is used for transportation of Solids, Liquids, and Gases and can resistant high temperature and pressure. All these industries use this pipe in majority because the type prevents any leakage, corrosion, rusting or breakage of the pipe. This pipe is designed for a longer run so it is very durable.
