I RECOGNIZE THE COVERS!!! YES THATS IT!!

Okay I’m trying to remember this one book my teacher read to the class back in primary/elementary school. This was later in the year so I was probably around… 5th or 6th grade? (Year 5 or 6)

Now I have a big imagination so I only remember certain lines or story parts because of the way I imagined the scenes.

But basically there’s a few things I remember about this book:

The main character was a boy who had nightmares, and I think these nightmares came to life??.. or are just monsters that come from a portal that randomly appears??? Anyway, his parents were trying to help him sleep when these monsters appear and a person who was after the creature found out the main character had a special ability against these monsters?? And then goes “I’m taking you to a special academy to learn how to fight them.” And, although concerned, the parents allow him to go.

Now… I don’t remember anything else about the main character. But actually, it’s his friends that I remember.

It’s a boy and a girl, and the boy I especially remember because there’s this one comedic bit where he was very firm on what class he believed he would be in (there’s 3 classes?? I think? All three of the kids are in separate classes) but everytime he said “I am a banisher!” (One of the classes, and the only quote I remember from the book), he kept getting thrown out of this pool that was used to determine the class the kids would be in.

He ended up being in the healer class, while the girl ended up being in the banisher class. Now, both of them think it must be a mistake for different reasons.

For the girl, she isn’t confident that she could be a banisher, but I don’t remember if there was another factor to it…

The boy however, he wanted to be a banisher because his father is a top banisher, and his father thinks healers are weak. So when he got the healer class, he especially felt fear knowing what his father would think if he knew he ended up in the “weaker” class.

He does encounter his father eventually but I don’t remember the interaction and whether it went well or not.

Anyway, that’s all I remember about this book. If anyone knows it, please let me know?? I think it’s actually a trilogy? Or not??… sorry my memory is relatively fuzzy but I’ve been thinking about reading it again after all these years.
