It’s almost time for Halloween in New Leaf! And some of you time travel, so it might be coming up quickly for you all. There are a lot of exclusive items to get from Jack and your villagers, so read on to learn all you need to know about this fun, spooky night! (＾ω＾)

Preparation:

During the month of October, there are a few things you can do to prepare for Halloween on October 31st. More on the meaning of them soon.

Buy candy from the Nookling store. One piece will be sold each day.

Buy Spooky Furniture from the Nookling store. One piece will be sold each day. Don’t worry if you don’t get the entire series though! You’ll have a chance to get more on Halloween night.

Buy the following masks from the Able Sisters:

Werewolf hood

Bug mask

Ghost mask

Mummy mask

Monster mask

Skeleton hood

There are other masks and costumes sold exclusively in the month of October, but only the ones listed above with help you complete Halloween.

Be sure to know the species and personality of each of your villagers.

Talk to Jack when you find him wondering around your town. He’ll tell you a little about himself and ask you to help him on Halloween. Obviously, you’ll accept.

Outdoor Villagers:

Now that you’ve gotten through all that, at 6pm on October 31st, Jack will arrive (more on him later), and Halloween will begin! The first interaction you’ll probably have will be with an outdoor villager wearing a pumpkin head mask and purple robe like Jack. They’ll ping!, chase you, and automatically ask you for candy. If you give them candy, they’ll give you a hint regarding the fears of other villagers. (You won’t need these hints with my villager chart below though.) If you don’t give them candy, they’ll realize you want candy too and propose a game of either charades or rock-paper-scissors. They’re both pretty simple to win, but you really don’t want to win. Because if you do, they’ll just give you a piece of regular candy… which is nice if you’ve run out.

Basically, lose on purpose for more fun things. If you’re not wearing anything on your head (hat, mask, custom hair design, etc.), the villager will give you whichever color pumpkin head they’re wearing. If you’re already wearing some sort of hat, they’ll “prank” you and either put you in a piece of ragged clothing, stick an old wallpaper/ floor in your pockets, or give you a Jack-in-the-Box.

You can get as many items from them as you have time for, but they’ll probably get annoying at some point, so just run away if you hear a ping!

Indoor Villagers:

You know those masks you’ve been hunting the entire month? You’re gonna get some use out of ‘em now. Villagers will be inside their houses for part of the festivities. These villagers are whom you get the special lollipops from. However, they’ll only give you a lollipop if you’re wearing the mask that “scares” their species/ villager combo.

Check out this chart I made so you know which of your super spooky masks to wear into your beloved Marshal’s house to scare the bejesus out of him. If you’re not wearing the right mask, they’ll give you a regular piece of candy. But you can come back to them with the proper mask and scare ‘em real good after you mess up. And you can only get one lollipop from each villager; if you “scare” them with a different mask, you’ll get a regular piece of candy.

Bringing Candy to Jack:

Jack is pretty much the czar of Halloween. He’ll be wondering around your town until midnight waiting for your sweet, sweet candy… Basically all you do with him is bring him candy and lollipops. Like the outdoor villagers, he’ll ping! you, chase you, and immediately start talking to you. He is the only one wearing an orange pumpkin head, so you can distinguish him from other losers trying to get your goods.

If you give him a piece of regular candy, he’ll give you the option of receiving a piece of Spooky furniture or a mask. If you give him a lollipop, he’ll freak out with joy and give you a piece of the Creepy series. There are 10 pieces to this series, so you need to have 10 villagers in order to get 10 lollipops to give to Jack.

Every time you finish your little trade with Jack, he’ll disappear and reappear in a random spot in town. This can be annoying, especially because he doesn’t respond to megaphone calls.

Everything Will Be Okay:

You’re not going to be doing these things in any certain order. Like I said, you’ll probably run into an outdoor villager first. But after that you’ll be all over the place trying to see what villagers are home, checking the villager fear chart, figuring out where the hell Jack wandered off to, cursing him for giving you a piece of Spooky furniture you already have, and dropping off items in your storage.

Be sure to keep your masks and candy on you, and don’t give any of your villagers lollipops. You save those for your main bitch Jack.
