Travelutionary meets Titicaca: After exploring the Amazon Jungle, the Inca capital Cuzco and finally Machu Picchu, I spend my last day in Peru in the city of Puno, the capital of Peruvian folklore. While walking down the road, from a distance I can hear local musicians playing their instruments, and I follow the triumphant sounding melody. As I reach the end of that road, I stand in front of the largest lake in all of South America and the highest navigable lake in the world. Thank You, Peru! #titicaca #puno #peruvianfolklore #lake (hier: Puno, Peru) https://www.instagram.com/p/BrEClqmgp9E/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=ksm4oa7mdm4z

Machu freakin' Picchu! Even if I try to imagine that the Incas never built this tremendous city in such a precarious location, the views are amazing wherever you look, as I will show in future posts. With the mark that the Incas left here, I can now clearly say that Machu Picchu belongs to the elite among all the sights that I have seen. #machupicchu #wonderoftheworld #peru #incacity (hier: Machupicchu, Cusco, Peru) https://www.instagram.com/p/BrEWCLhAIvf/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1mqxx2i92xnpg

First moments in the former Inca capital. Its main square Plaza de Armas, however, is dominated by colonial edifices, such as the Iglesia de la Compañía de Jesús. One of the darkest chapters for the indigenous people in this region took place at this square, when the Peruvian revolutionary Tupac Amaru II, leader of the indigenous uprising against the Spanish rulers, was executed right here. At an altitude of 3399 meters, the next destination is only 11 meters lower above sea level than one of my favorite places: Jheel Lulusar, a lake in Pakistan that turned out to be the 'heaven' of my 2nd project 'Operation Stairway to Heaven'. For more than 7 years, this had been the highest place I ever visited on earth, until I recently reached an even higher peak in Ecuador (to be shared soon). After returning from the Amazon Jungle, I now focus on a completely different aspect of Peru, exploring the remains of one of the most remarkable ancient civilizations in history. And it begins in their former capital - Cusco. #incaempire #andeanmountains #planeview #cusco #peru (hier: Cusco, Peru) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bq0w9TpAsgK/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=r3n81h2cq6rn

Last week, for the first time ever I spotted the world's largest river, shortly before landing in the largest city of the world that cannot be reached by road. Peru is testing my patience: First it took hours to cross the border, then it took an hour to be checked into a hotel and even at the airport there are some complications: Before entering the flight, I am being asked to check if my baggage fits in a metal frame to determine the size of the bag. Since it doesn't fit in, I am being asked to pay a baggage fee of 50€. 'I will be right back', I say. After 20 minutes I stand in front of the gate again, this time wearing 3 t-shirts, 3 pullovers, 3 pants and a jacket. It is 31°, the room is filled with passengers and I am sweating like crazy, the people around me and some securities are amused as I hammer my backpack into the metal frame until it fits in while looking like an Eskimo on a sunny day and thereby avoiding to pay the fee. More complications: Inside the airplane two women are asked to leave the flight for security reasons. They refuse to be escorted out. After half an hour they half-heartedly leave the plane. The rest of the passengers and I enjoy a nice sunset view on our way to Peru's Capital, from where I will take another flight to FINALLY initiate chapter 3. #peru #planeview #planesunset #vivaair https://www.instagram.com/p/BqkO0BdgQFA/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=53xesbyaj8sn

Crossing the border from Ecuador to Peru would take longer than expected because the refugees from Venezuela, some of whom were in the same bus like me, had difficulties at the border. Hours passed until we could finally enter Peru. Coincidentally I wore my Canaima shirt, so the refugees and other Venezolanos easily figured out that I have been to their country before. Good talks! #ecuador #peru #huaquillas #bordercrossing https://www.instagram.com/p/BqjXy0cgO61/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1482q55m2ufpw

Apart from receiving a certificate for balancing on the equator and for balancing an egg at latitude 00'00'00, I now have a very special stamp on my passport, the only one that has not been stamped by border officials: A stamp from the Intinan Solar Museum, where you find the real equator and a lot of interesting insights on indigenous culture, history and life in the jungle. #equatorline #intinan #latitude000 #mitaddelmundo #passportstamp #ecuador #quito #showbe #travelutionary #caminodelsol (hier: Mitad Del Mundo-Quito) https://www.instagram.com/p/BqdJnh0AosK/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1jjrjudxgktw8
